Clay Butte rises to almost 10,500' as it looms over Beartooth Lake below is southeast flank. Clay Butte is made up of Sedimentary rock. The fire watch tower in the panorama is open for self guided tours during the summer months. Rotate the panorama about 180 around and you will get a good view of the prominent Pilot and Index Peaks located near Cooke City, Montana. In the far distance to the north about half way between Index Peak and Clay Butte (left of the bald ridge) you can see the pyramidal top of Granite Peak, Montana's high point at 12,799'.
