The Rio Mira is one of the few rivers in Portugal that flows to North. With about 130 km length, it starts in the Serra do Caldeir~ao, and flows into Vila Nova de Mil Fontes. It crosses the yellow plain, also called the cereal steppe, and the last 32 km, from Odemira to the mouth, are part of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina. The water is clean, the river narrows and we are noticing the change in the very diverse vegetation. The large number of birds is one of the attractions of the last kilometers of the river Mira. During the summer months it is possible to take a boat trip between Vila Nova de Milfontes and Odemira on the river that is one of the least polluted in Europe.

Lighthouse Roundabout is located at the end of Vila Nova de Milfontes at the end of Avenida Marginal next to Farol beach. From here we can enjoy an excellent view over the sea and the mouth of the river Mira, where in the late afternoon we can watch a wonderful sunset. At Lighthouse Roundabout we find a statue that leaves no one indifferent. The statue of the Archangel is a statue of a warrior angel, a controversial work by the sculptor Aureliano de Aguiar, who reused iron to allude to the degradation of planet Earth.

Praia do Farol located on the north bank of the mouth of the Rio Mira, on the Alentejo coast, Portugal. It is an easily accessible beach with extensive sand that skirts the entire tip of the land, where bathers can choose between bathing in the river or in the Atlantic Ocean. Equipped with an excellent restaurant, Praia do Farol, one of the most beautiful in the region with its protected dunes, is ideal for young people due to the lakes that form at low tide and also for surfers.

Located on Rua do Pinhal in the new area of Vila Nova de Milfontes, very close to the Clube Desportivo Praia de Milfontes Football Field, the Church Our Lady of Fatima, also known as Igreja Nova, is, as its name implies, the new Church of Vila Nova de Milfontes. It is a simple church, with straight lines, where the bell tower stands out, topped off with a small dome.

The Archangel is a statue of a warrior angel made of recycled iron, 3.5 meters high. This warrior angel who lifts up above his head, the earth, which melts and destroys. It is located at the roundabout next to Praia do Farol in Vila Nova de Milfontes, Portugal. It constitutes an ecological appeal. A scream, an alert to the crumbling, melting planet. It is pain, anger and the desire to save the planet that has been degraded by the hand of humans, explains Aureliano de Aguiar, the author of this work.

Panorama photographed at Alentejo Dunes close Marginal Avenue and near the estuary of the River Mira in Vila Nova de Milfontes, Portugal. The climate of the Alentejo coast is Mediterranean. However, due to the proximity to the sea, there is a great maritime influence, coming from the Atlantic Ocean. Temperatures along the Alentejo coast are usually mild during practically the whole year. The most important wetland in the region is, without a doubt, the estuary of the River Mira. Its fauna and flora have unique characteristics with more than 100 rare species of plants, including 12 that are unique in the world. The Alentejo coast has come to be considered as the last wild coast in Europe and also one of the most beautiful in the world. The beaches are, for the most part, wild and extensive with wonderful dunes.
