So basically the Google ranking is given by the PageRank algorithm that is like this:
PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) +... + PR(Tn)/C(Tn))
where:
PR(A) is the PageRank of page A,
PR(Ti) is the PageRank of pages Ti which link to page A,
C(Ti) is the number of outbound links on page Ti and
d is a damping factor which can be set between 0 and 1.
Here we see some interesting things: PageRank does not rank sites as a unit. Instead determines for each page individually. Also, you can see that the formula is recursively, where the Pagerank of page A is defined by the PageRanks of those pages that link to page A. So something you should consider is inbound and outbound links.
Link submission is a crucial part of ranking in Google so I will explain to you how I get ready for this process:
To start this process you will need some Anchor text and description that fit best your site. This is, create a few (5 o 6 to begin with) mixing keywords.
Place the keyword both in the Anchor Text (title) and Description.
Anchors usually can contain between 1 and 6 words and description can be up to 250 characters (this depends on the directory).
Later you can submit your site to many free Directories. Just Google search "Free Web Directories".

In SEO, a category page is similar to an index on your website. On an ebusiness site which sells dog food it is the page that itemizes the types of dog food for sale. On a service site it would be the list of all your services and on a niche SEO information website the category page would possibly itemize SEM/SEO articles.
Category pages are more SEO keyword and keyword phrase rich than your homepage, as a rule. If there is a big competition for your homepage keywords then, as a rule, your category page should include more precise keywords. Also the keywords on your category page will more likely be acceptable. Websites which have only one homepage can embody any amount of category pages and this may increase their traffic. This should please any SEM/SEO analyst as it is their goal to grow your customer base.
There can also be varying stratums of category pages. For instance the first tier page could be Dog food then Adult Dog food and then the final tier could be Vegetarian Adult Dog food. If your website is set up with more than one category level you must fix on the ones on which you wish to spotlight. Sometimes not all the same things can be done on each category level and sometimes they can. Your search engine optimization (SEO) plan should focus on what you want to accomplish most.
Category page SEO will be much easier since most of the links will be internal therefore, coming from different places in your own website. You should use SEO keywords to anchor your text when you link to the category pages. They should stand out when placed in the headings and title tags on the page. It is also helpful for you to write some content that is SEO keyword rich. A paragraph, maybe two, should be plenty. Remember you want your page keyword rich not keyword stuffed, which is a no-no in proper search engine optimization.
Your internal linking is highly important for your SEO. You must be sure that for every level of category page, you have a link on your homepage site map which corresponds to it. It helps to link to the categories from all the pages in your website, though in order to keep your menu small and to have less links only put the main categories. Leave the subcategories to be listed on the category page itself. This will avoid having too many links which can bring down the weight of each link. Search engine optimization (SEO) is a delicate balance between too little and too much so ask a SEM/SEO expert for help.

OK, the first thing to remember is that Google AdWords and Google Search are two completely separate entities, they are just displayed on the same search page when you make a search.
Many times you here "I removed Google AdWords and lost all my rankings" with people touting conspiracy theories on how Google makes them keep paying for AdWords otherwise they will lose their organic rankings. This is complete nonsense however!. Read Google's official line on this subject.
Just so you sleep well at night I would like you to know that there is no big Google AdWords conspiracy and anything that happens to your web sites rank in the organic listings is completely separate and unaffected by Google AdWords .
Google Organic search uses the search engine spider Googlebot. Google AdWords uses the search engine spider Google Mediapartners. Just check your server logs and you will probably see both at one time or another.
Google AdWords uses a completely different ranking algorithm and pricing model to rank Ads than the Organic search uses. Google AdWords uses something called Ad Rank which is based on a quality score and a cost per click value.
Another interesting fact is that you can have an AdWords account without your site being indexed in the Organic search. Surely this fact alone should convince people the two are not related.
So, you can rest safe in the knowledge that your Google AdWords (or AdSense for that matter) account has no effect positive or negative on your Organic Google search results.

It is straight forward and simple to submit a web site for free to the search engines
and a task that can be done in a few minutes. However, there are plenty of
companies offering search engine submission services, these services re-submit your web
site to the search engines periodically for a given time period. It amazes me that
these services exist and amazes me more why people pay for them.
Google states on its web master pages that re-submitting your web site to the search engine does not make a difference to a sites
ranking or to how quickly the site appears in the rankings and from experience this is also
true in Yahoo! and MSN.
Why submit your site to the search engines?
Submitting your web site to the search engine will make your web site visible to its
robot. A search engine robot is a web spider that runs across the internet, indexing
web pages one at a time, following links it finds on other web pages. The submission
of your web site to the search engine will inform these robots to index your site. How
quickly the robot indexes your web site depends on the search engine, so no guarantees
can be made.
Once your web site has been indexed the search engine may rank your site relevant for
certain keywords it has picked up on, although these are not taken from your keywords meta data.
Again, this is not a guarantee and can take months (especially if it is Google) before your
site is visible to search engine users.
How do you know when your web site has been indexed?
The first indication of this can be seen in your web analysis tool, usually under the
section marked robots/spider visits. If you do not have such a tool, id recommend
installing AW Stats which is free and will accomplish most peoples needs, or you can
search through your web sites log files for the IP addresses of the search engine spiders.
The main IP addresses to look out for are:
Google - will be seen as Googlebot
Yahoo - will be seen as Inktomi Slurp
MSN - will be seen as MSNBot
For a more detailed list take a look at the web robots pages [http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/active/html/index.html]. Once
you have identified the robot visit to your web site, it is time to see if your web site has
been indexed. To do this you will need to go to the search engine and type in the
following command:
site:www.yoursite.com
Replace http://www.yoursite.com for the web address of your web site.
If the search engine returns your web site then it means you have been successfully added
to its index and can be found by search engine users. However, if your web site does not
appear be patient it may take a while.
How to improve the chances of being indexed?
It is possible although not guaranteed to speed up the inclusion of your web site to the
search engines by having their spiders find your web site before actually submitting your
web site to the engine. This can be done by having a web site that has already been
indexed link back to your web site.
This can be done in several ways, some are examples are to have your web site address as part
of your signature in a forum, or by having your web design company give you a link as part of
their portfolio.
In my experience this has helped considerably, and is always favorable to submitting a
web site manually to the search engines. Although, there is nothing wrong with manually
submitting your web site!
Is using a submission service bad for my web site?
This does depend on how the company submits your web site to the search engine. Search
engines have become good at distinguishing between manual submissions and bulk automated
submissions usually made from these types of services (sometimes having different URLs available),
normally when a search engine detects a bulk web site submission it will usually process them
slower than manual submissions.
What search engines should I submit to?
Be extremely wary of web sites that say they can submit your web site to 100s if not
1000s of search engines. The majority of these search engines will not provide you with
any traffic and the web site will likely sell on your email address.
You should submit your web site to the following search engines:
Google
Yahoo
MSN
Submitting your web site to these three search engines does not restrict your sites visibility
as can be seen by this web site detailing whom powers who where

Several weeks ago the question of a new Google case sensitive search started appearing in a couple of message boards. I've noticed this phenomenon myself especially over the last two weeks when working on a particular customer's website.
This issue impacted communication with the customer. At first, I thought it was a matter of the client and myself looking at results from two different data centers. Then I realized that the client was using capital letters in some words but not in others while searching and this impacted the results in Google.
For years, Google and the other search engines have stated that their searches are not case sensitive. But, now that seems not to be the case for some keyword phrases. You'll have to note, however, that not all keyword phrases are impacted by the use or non-use of capital letters.
I've experimented somewhat with this and the results are mixed. Those who have weighed in on the message boards have also reported mixed results as well. There is a thread on the Digital Point forum that talks about this issue and the use of "Cool Time" versus "cool time" while searching Google.
Some people report seeing different results while others don't. I can verify that I do see different results from these two searches. For me, when doing this search, the first two spots in the SERPs are the same, while the third spot on down are a bit different.
There are also threads over at Search Engine Watch and Webmaster World that are reporting the phenomenon but not the impact of the same issue. Now, the first question that pops to mind is "why?" What is the motivation for having a Google case sensitive search?
Right now, I can only speculate. Perhaps this is one attempt to thwart blog comment or message board spam? Or, perhaps this is an attempt to differentiate between a company's official name or a product name and a generic word.
The impact of this Google case sensitive search could be large for some sites. Perhaps their company name is part of their primary homepage key phrase and they rank well when using capital letters for their company name. But, suppose most searchers type in lower case and the same website doesn't rank as well in lower case.
This also brings to mind another question. Will link-builders now have to use anchor text with both upper and lower case letters in order to achieve optimal results in the Google SERPs? Do capital letters now affect the title and meta tag areas?
For many business owners case sensitive search will be a non-issue. But, for those that are affected knowing the answers to these questions may have a very large impact on their bottom lines.

So, what happens is when somebody searches for those particular keywords, and those same keywords are optimized well on your website, your site will actually get a higher rank or placement in the search engines. So you've got to find what words actually work best. When somebody's searching online, what words would you like to have your site appear for? Using free search engine optimization is one of the most inexpensive ways to gain traffic to your website.
One major tip is to use keyword software to target keywords that are in demand from your market. Note that some keywords are more popular than others - usually the main keywords. So, for example if you were in the niche of weight loss, that keyword "weight loss" will be very competitive. You can do search engine optimization for that term, but since it's overly competitive; it may be harder to rank for that term. A great strategy is to use long tail keywords. Long tail keywords refer to words which are 3 or more words. So instead of optimizing your page for the overly competitive term "weight loss", which may be difficult to rank well for, consider optimizing pages for three or more keywords like "weight loss vitamin" or "weight loss vitamin for women". You'll be amazed at how well you can rank for such terms since there are quite a few people entering those terms in the search box.
If you want to gain more traffic to your website think outside the box. Google is a vast search engine that can give you a ton of opportunities to rank well for your market. Whether free or paid, you can do very well if you take the time to carefully look at your market and the capabilities of the Google platform.

Google knows that and will likely rank your website higher if you don't use those type of tactics. Backlink tools do however exist that can assist you to hasten the link building process so that you can receive good quality back links as efficiently and quickly as possible. Some link building programs exist to play on Google's algorithm and that's exactly why they will punish your website should they find out that your website is involved in that type of practice. Since you're taking the time to use SEO to improve your website's search engine rankings, don't cheat the system. Whatever you do, stay completely away from automatic link building programs.
