Appearing on page one of Google can drive you a tremendous amount of traffic to your website. To really know how to appear on this page, you need to understand how Google works:
There Are Two Ways of Getting Traffic
- Using search engines optimization (SEO)
- NOT using SEO (using forum, list swaps, or classified ads, content distribution...)

Fact: 1% to 2% of visitors click on the right hand side links, and only 4% to 6% click on the top links.
- The free organic results: All the other results appearing on the page - They are links to pages of main websites. If you appear on page one on Google, on the S.E.R.P's, you will get a lot of traffic.
Fact: 10 to 30% click on the organic result.
How Do I Get On Page One Of Google in The Organic Results For Free?
It can be relatively easily done, but you need to know what Google wants: They want to look after their customers, they want their experience to be the best possible. They want us (their customers) to trust them!! And we do trust them because they make sure that when we conduct a search at Google, the results that are shown are pertinent to our search request.
What happens is Google have their own setup algorithms for deciding what shows up when we type in a search. Now there are a few factors that determines this algorithm but the MAIN elements that Google looks for are:
- Contents
- Back-links - A webpage with many links to it from another webpage - If the referring site is a popular site, then even more credibility can it gives you!
If you want to get traffic to your squeeze page, you have to realize that a squeeze page is not full of content, all you are trying to do is building your list. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that but in Google's eyes, it is not particularly great and so guess what...
GOOGLE DOES NOT LIKE SQUEEZE PAGES!!
So if Google doesn't like squeeze page, they are not going to rank it in the first place: Your squeeze page will not appear in the search engine results pages - It simply won't!
But don't worry because here is how you can appear on page one: Remember Google loves contents - Content is King and therefore one way to appear on page one of the search engine pages at Google is to write a keywords rich article, and then give this article to a popular article directory.
When you do so, you are now on a page at this popular website and remember Google rank pages. So the key is to have an article accepted on a very popular site with lots of back links - lots of contents.
Google loves that website - And because you have got an article on that website - You are kind of swept along with their success - And when somebody types in your keywords, then your article will appear on page one!!
Your squeeze page is never going to appear, ever, in the search engine result pages but an article must certainly could if you choose a good keyword - This is how search engine works - And how you can appear on page one of Google...

Google knows that and will likely rank your website higher if you don't use those type of tactics. Backlink tools do however exist that can assist you to hasten the link building process so that you can receive good quality back links as efficiently and quickly as possible. Some link building programs exist to play on Google's algorithm and that's exactly why they will punish your website should they find out that your website is involved in that type of practice. This is a fair enough question. You search something online, via a search engine, an you find millions of results. For example, you Google something as random as "family doctor" or "divorce lawyer", and you get about 16,000,000 results. You type in the key words you're looking for, and then Google gives you the results: 1 - 10 of about 16,000,000 results about "family doctor".Now 16 millions is a lot, and still, Google doesn't just give you the results randomly, but it ranks each and every page so they come in a precise order, one in front of the other. How do search engines rank pages?
There isn't an exact answer that will tell you exactly what to do to be ranked first by a search engine, but there is a general concept. Let's take Google again. When Google searches for your search term, it starts the search with those pages containing the exact same term or phrase. Those will be the first pages in the results. After looking for exact matches, it starts looking for pages containing the words close together, then for pages that contain your search terms, but they're scattered around.
This is the general concept. However, you will find that this is not always respected. For example, sometimes it may give you pages with the words close together, and then pages with the exact matches. This happens because search engines have various criteria based on which they evaluate pages. They don't just look at the words you typed in, but at many more factors. Yes, they look for the words throughout the page, and not only in the visible page, but also in the HTML source code for the page.
This way, each time they find a word that matches your search the word is ranked, so that a word in one position or context is more valuable than another word in another position, according to how the words are "formatted". And these are not the only criteria. You know those various links you find pointing to pages?
Search engines also look at those links, and uses them to evaluate the referenced pages. Again, there are various criteria for these pages and their links, such as the number of links, the number of links from popular sites, the words in the link text... and so on. So basically, search engines rank pages by so many factors and in so many ways, that the answer is more or less beyond our grasp. But we may poke around the general concept at least.

In the last few months, we've seen a lot of activity from Bing, with heavy marketing investment aimed at raising its profile. It's perhaps worth examining the methods used to push Bing into the public's consciousness and to carve itself a slice of the search market. Have their campaigns made much of an impression? How will Google react to Bing and what does the future hold in terms of competition between the two?
Bing Campaigns
Most obviously, Bing has mounted a TV campaign aimed at raising its profile. While it's highly likely that you will have seen one such ad, there have been other forms of promotion that haven't been so apparent to those outside the industry.
One significant move is Bing's 10-year deal with Yahoo! which will see Yahoo! search results powered by Bing. As Yahoo! has the second-largest share of the search market, this allows Bing access to that.
Bing is also paying close attention to social media. This is reflected in the creation of bing.com/twitter and bing.com/social - sites that let users search Twitter and Facebook content for relevant updates, including tweets and Facebook fan pages. Bing is also responsible for Facebook's search option. With social media ever-expanding, this is a key audience to capture and increases Bing's influence greatly.
Bing has also tried to popularise 'Bing it' instead of 'Google it' and has even had a Bing-branded ice cream van giving away freebies in London. Is all of this working?
Google's response to Bing
Bing first appeared in May 2009 and ever since it has been spoken of as a potential rival to Google. With the weight of Microsoft behind it, Bing could have an impact if marketed in the right way. It's notable that Google has reacted in several ways:
Background image for the homepage - recently, Google implemented a change allowing users to personalise their homepage with an image of their choice. Although it is only an option, this reflects the format of the Bing homepage.
Results pages - Google has adopted several features from the Bing results pages. If you compare the two, you will see a number of similarities in terms of related searches and the like.
PPC - Sponsored links are presented in a similar way on the two search engines. Some say that there are better conversion rates on Bing, which, if true, will doubtless be something that Google is looking into.
Conclusion
Google will remain top of the pile for a good while to come with regard to search engine optimisation, but Bing's profile is rising, perhaps more so than its current market share. By establishing the Bing brand in people's minds, it is better placed to make headway. TV adverts have created a certain buzz and the slogan 'Bing and decide' has proven quite memorable for many people, which could be marked down as a minor success.
In terms of SEO, the differences between the two search engines aren't huge. If you compare results pages for different searches, many are quite similar for both Google and Bing in terms of the links that are provided on the first couple of pages.

If you want to know how you can use Google keywords for search as well as understand how it all works, take note of what I'm about to say here. If you have a website online and are using keyword targeting for search engine optimization, good for you! You're on the right track. But if you're new to all of this, let me explain how Google keywords for search work.
There are really two sides to Google, if you really look at it. One, side is the free side and the other is the paid side. If you take a look at the paid side which translates into running Google AdWords ads which are the ads on the right side of the search page of Google, you'll see related ads based on your search. If you take a look at the free side of Google, basically we can typically call this the SEO or the free search side. A lot of times this free side is referred to as organic search. Basically what that means is you're optimizing your site for specific keywords or for specific words. So, what happens is when somebody searches for those particular keywords, and those same keywords are optimized well on your website, your site will actually get a higher rank or placement in the search engines. So you've got to find what words actually work best. When somebody's searching online, what words would you like to have your site appear for? Using free search engine optimization is one of the most inexpensive ways to gain traffic to your website.
One major tip is to use keyword software to target keywords that are in demand from your market. Note that some keywords are more popular than others - usually the main keywords. So, for example if you were in the niche of weight loss, that keyword "weight loss" will be very competitive. You can do search engine optimization for that term, but since it's overly competitive; it may be harder to rank for that term. A great strategy is to use long tail keywords. Long tail keywords refer to words which are 3 or more words. So instead of optimizing your page for the overly competitive term "weight loss", which may be difficult to rank well for, consider optimizing pages for three or more keywords like "weight loss vitamin" or "weight loss vitamin for women". You'll be amazed at how well you can rank for such terms since there are quite a few people entering those terms in the search box.
If you want to gain more traffic to your website think outside the box. Google is a vast search engine that can give you a ton of opportunities to rank well for your market. Whether free or paid, you can do very well if you take the time to carefully look at your market and the capabilities of the Google platform.

Search engine optimization, more commonly referred to as SEO, is of course the process which involves getting a website ranked higher in the major search engines. The problem with SEO is that professional firms can be very expensive, which is why many people prefer the "Do SEO Yourself" mentality. In this article I am going to share with you how to do SEO Yourself, and show you at what point you should consider higher a professional internet marketing consultant to perform SEO services for your company or organization.
If you want to do SEO yourself, then the first thing that you need to learn is the value of keyword research. If you are wanting to perform SEO on your own website or web properties, performing adequate keyword research is the first step.
So, how do you perform keyword research? There are many paid tools out there such as Micro Niche Finder, Keyword Elite, and Market Samuri, however from my personal experience I can tell you that the free Google AdWords Keyword Tool works just as well. You should not spend money on tools that will not help you! Now, go to the Google AdWords keyword tool and type in your keyword phrase. You can go to the "advanced options" tab and select local searches, global searches, and a lot of other search parameters. I usually only consider the global searches, and I make sure that I change the parameters so that the tool will only return results from English speaking countries. This is a great tool to use if you want to do SEO yourself.
You can then type several keyword phrases into the search field, and the tool will show you how many monthly searches a particular terms gets.
Hot Tip: Focus on the Phrase Match of a keyword, because it is much more accurate than the broad match.
After you find a few keywords that you want to rank your website, blog, or article for, it is time to analyze your competition. In order to do this, you need to install SEO Firefox. It is a free plug-in that allows you to analyze the strength of your competition for a particular keyword phrase.
When you do SEO yourself, you must analyze the first page competition thoroughly. You should look for keywords that have a lot of articles and inner pages ranking highly within the search engines. This typically means that your keyword is easier to rank for, because a lot of home pages are not optimized for that particular keyword!
In addition, you should look at the following factors with SEO Firefox: Domain Age, Number of Backlinks, Number of Pages, and the PR (PageRank) of a website. By analyzing these factors, you can determine whether or not you can rank on page #1.
Most people think that SEO stops there, but if you want to do SEO yourself then you must realize the important of one thing: Backlinks. Backlinks to your website essentially counts as a "vote" from Google, and the more high quality backlinks you have, the higher your website will rank in the search engines.
So, how do you get backlinks?
In order to get high quality backlinks, you can comment on blogs within your market, write keyword rich articles, and submit press releases with an anchor-text link back to your website. These are simple methods to increase the number of backlinks to your website, thus improve your search engine rankings!
One more thing: If you are optimizing your website or blog (as opposed to an article) for the search engines, then make sure you build your website on the WordPress Platform. WordPress is a great way to do SEO yourself, because you can install a plug-in called the All-in-one SEO Pack. This Plug-in will take care of the many on-page optimizations factors for you!

It is straight forward and simple to submit a web site for free to the search engines
and a task that can be done in a few minutes. However, there are plenty of
companies offering search engine submission services, these services re-submit your web
site to the search engines periodically for a given time period. It amazes me that
these services exist and amazes me more why people pay for them.
Google states on its web master pages that re-submitting your web site to the search engine does not make a difference to a sites
ranking or to how quickly the site appears in the rankings and from experience this is also
true in Yahoo! and MSN.
Why submit your site to the search engines?
Submitting your web site to the search engine will make your web site visible to its
robot. A search engine robot is a web spider that runs across the internet, indexing
web pages one at a time, following links it finds on other web pages. The submission
of your web site to the search engine will inform these robots to index your site. How
quickly the robot indexes your web site depends on the search engine, so no guarantees
can be made.
Once your web site has been indexed the search engine may rank your site relevant for
certain keywords it has picked up on, although these are not taken from your keywords meta data.
Again, this is not a guarantee and can take months (especially if it is Google) before your
site is visible to search engine users.
How do you know when your web site has been indexed?
The first indication of this can be seen in your web analysis tool, usually under the
section marked robots/spider visits. If you do not have such a tool, id recommend
installing AW Stats which is free and will accomplish most peoples needs, or you can
search through your web sites log files for the IP addresses of the search engine spiders.
The main IP addresses to look out for are:
Google - will be seen as Googlebot
Yahoo - will be seen as Inktomi Slurp
MSN - will be seen as MSNBot
For a more detailed list take a look at the web robots pages [http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/active/html/index.html]. Once
you have identified the robot visit to your web site, it is time to see if your web site has
been indexed. To do this you will need to go to the search engine and type in the
following command:
site:www.yoursite.com
Replace http://www.yoursite.com for the web address of your web site.
If the search engine returns your web site then it means you have been successfully added
to its index and can be found by search engine users. However, if your web site does not
appear be patient it may take a while.
How to improve the chances of being indexed?
It is possible although not guaranteed to speed up the inclusion of your web site to the
search engines by having their spiders find your web site before actually submitting your
web site to the engine. This can be done by having a web site that has already been
indexed link back to your web site.
This can be done in several ways, some are examples are to have your web site address as part
of your signature in a forum, or by having your web design company give you a link as part of
their portfolio.
In my experience this has helped considerably, and is always favorable to submitting a
web site manually to the search engines. Although, there is nothing wrong with manually
submitting your web site!
Is using a submission service bad for my web site?
This does depend on how the company submits your web site to the search engine. Search
engines have become good at distinguishing between manual submissions and bulk automated
submissions usually made from these types of services (sometimes having different URLs available),
normally when a search engine detects a bulk web site submission it will usually process them
slower than manual submissions.
What search engines should I submit to?
Be extremely wary of web sites that say they can submit your web site to 100s if not
1000s of search engines. The majority of these search engines will not provide you with
any traffic and the web site will likely sell on your email address.
You should submit your web site to the following search engines:
Google
Yahoo
MSN
Submitting your web site to these three search engines does not restrict your sites visibility

You've just launched your new website (or launched the redesign) and now you're sitting back waiting for the orders to roll in. But wait a minute, something's wrong... there don't seem to be any. It's as if your site doesn't exist.
Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but unless you have either a well publicised site or many websites linking to yours, you're going to have to rely on the search engines. And if your site doesn't rank in the first three result pages, it's more than likely you won't be found at all.
So... you know what's coming next; that's right, you need a good dose of search engine marketing (SEM) to make sure your site gets listed on the search engines' results pages. Do this and the traffic to your website will soon follow.
"Right", I hear you say. "Let's do some search engine marketing then..."
Well that's certainly a good start! But first you have to work out your approach to maximise your returns. Let's call this your search engine marketing strategy. In order to create an effective strategy you need to understand a bit more about how search engine marketing works. Currently, we can roughly-speaking separate search engine marketing into two different approaches:
Organic: including search engine optimisation, links from other websites and offline marketing.
Paid: including pay per click, paid submission and online advertising (banner ads).
So to help you further, I've listed below the advantages and disadvantages to each approach to SEM and outlined my recommendations.
Organic: Advantages
The majority of the work behind search engine optimisation (SEO) is a one-off activity, and so is usually charged out at a set upfront fee.
The changes made to your website will probably still be relevant and driving traffic to your site a year from now.
Credibility: most people (research indicates between 60 and 80 percent) will click on the organic results rather than the sponsored (paid) results.
If you rank well in one of the major search engines (Google/Yahoo/MSN), you will most likely show up in the majority of the search engines worldwide.Organic: Disadvantages
Changes must be made to your website's code. Normally the changes are invisible to visitors. However, if you have invested heavily in a search engine-unfriendly site, the process can be time-consuming and costly; and occasionally significant changes may need to be made to your site's copy, navigation or design. Of course ultimately, you'll see returns if you commit to the necessary changes.
Results (rankings and traffic) start slowly. You will normally see results within 3-4 months.
There can be no guarantee. As the search engines themselves have the final say, you can't predict how many rankings you'll get for a particular search term or engine; nor can you predict how much traffic you'll get to your site.Paid: Advantages
Pay per click (PPC) advertising programs are fast to implement. It usually takes two to three weeks to set up and run. Google AdWords are up-and-running as soon as you start the campaign, and Overture listings are live within 3-5 business days (after an editor reviews them).
Nothing has to change on your web site, although I would recommend you create targeted landing pages for each advertisement as they've been proven to increase conversions (but that's another subject for another time!).
There is no limit to the number of terms or keyword phases you can bid on.
PPC is good if you intend to run promotions through your site, as you can turn the PPC campaign on and off whenever you choose.
You can dictate where the listing appears on the result's page (within the sponsors' ads area) and determine what the ad says.
It's very easy to test all your different search terms and offers etc, and to measure the results.Paid: Disadvantages
Clicks can be expensive. Bidding wars often erupt.
You must keep paying for the clicks every month. If your budget is ever cut, your listings will disappear, along with your search engine traffic.
Most people (research indicates between 60 and 80 percent) will click on the organic results rather than the sponsored (paid) results.
It requires a time investment to monitor and adjust listings on a constant basis, or budget to outsource this activity.
Listings are subject to editorial acceptance. With SEO, you can state whatever you like on your website (which is where the search engines pull your page title and description). You want to get up-and-running quickly.
You have a promotion where you want to be able to turn a PPC campaign on and off.
You want to be able to test search terms, products or offers and quickly see results.
Your site is search engine-unfriendly and you don't want to invest in changing it.
You're confident you'll have the budget to spend for the long haul, and you have time to maintain positions on a regular basis.
Of course many companies and businesses tackle both organic and paid SEM at the same time, and this is what I would typically recommend to maximally attract qualified traffic to a website.
If you are currently designing your site, or redesigning an existing one, make sure your developer knows how to create search engine optimised code or is working closely with a SEO consultant. Getting it right from the beginning will save you time and money in the long run. And it needn't cost a fortune either if you tackle this upfront
If you have an existing site you wish to optimise, you may have a hard decision to make if your current site is not search engine friendly. If your site has been built using extensive use of frames or dynamic pages (your URL may look like: http://www.yoursite.com/page.asp?id=8), the cost to rectify these problems can be discouraging. If this is the case, now may be the time to seriously consider redesigning your site earlier than you'd planned.
Either way, the use of a small paid (pay per click) advertising campaign before optimisation can be a great way to nail down those essential keywords to use throughout your site's copy by recording which keywords customers respond to the most in your campaign.

You must evaluate your web sites performance. In order to evaluate your web site performance effectively you must have a clear vision of the purpose of your website, without it you won't receive the performance you desire. You must have goals for your website. They guide you in the development and monitoring of your site. What sort of action do you want your visitors to take? Do you want them to fill out a form to subscribe to your newsletter or do you want them to purchase a product? If you want peak efficiency, there are steps you must take.
First, check to see how many people visit your site over whatever period of time you choose, a week, a month, etc. To set a good baseline measurement, choose a month when you aren't doing a special promotion. A large amount of visitors doesn't guarantee that your site is successful. Your sites performance is based on what action a visitor takes. Monitoring the number of visitors who make a purchase is equally important.
A crucial element that helps you determine your websites efficiency is called the site conversion rate. In order to determine your conversion rate, check the number of visitors you have per month and calculate the percentage of those who take the action you wanted them to, whether it was to make a purchase or sign up for your newsletter.
If, for example, you had 1,000 visitors to your site, and 10 of them took action, the conversion rate would be .1%.
You arrive at the conversion rate figure by dividing the total number number of visitors by the number of visitors that took action. Then dividing that result by 100. (1000 divided by 10 = 1.00 divided by 100 = .1%)
You need to determine the difference between your sites conversion rate and the sales conversion rate. Those who fill out a form on your site for a newsletter are not yet a paying customer.
No matter what action you're asking your sites visitor to make, the site conversion rate will help you determine the success of any changes you make to your site. When launching a new SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Campaign, there are several methods to choose from to increase the flow of traffic to your site. If they have to scroll down endlessly to find the form or click three or four pages to fill it out, you've probably lost them. Web forms and buttons used on your site must be highly visible and accessible.
Whenever possible, have your web copy written or evaluated by a professional. Your copy's goal is to get your visitor to take action!
