Fishnet Picot Socks

Create a fishnet look using sport-weight yarn for a great-looking pair of socks.
FINISHED SIZE
Fits up to 10", 11" or 12" lower calf measurements.
Make to desired length.
MATERIALS
• Light worsted yarn - 5 [5 1/2, 6] oz. natural cotton
• Elastic thread
• Stitch markers or bobby pins
• Tapestry needle
• E hook or hook size needed to obtain gauge
GAUGE
5 sts = 1"; 5 sc rows worked in Heel pattern = 1".
BASIC STITCHES
Ch, sl st, sc, hdc.

Instructions are for small, changes for medium and large are in [].
SOCK (make 2)
Leg
Rnd 1: For foundation, ch 3, yo, insert hook in third ch from hook, yo, pull through ch, ch 1, (yo, pull through 2 lps on hook) 2 times, *yo, insert hook in last ch-1 made, yo, pull through ch, (yo, pull through 2 lps on hook) 2 times; repeat from * 30 [34, 38] more times, join with sl st in top of ch-3. Fasten off. (32 [36, 40] sts made) Sew first and last st on bottom of rnd together.
Rnd 2: Sl st around front post of first st, ch 3 (counts as first dc fp), dc back post around post of next st, (dc fp around post of next st, dc bp around post of next st) around, join with sl st in top of ch-3.
Rnds 3-5: Sl st around fp of first st, ch 3, dc bp around next st, (dc fp around next st, dc bp around next st) around, join.
Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 3, skip next 3 sts, (sc in next st, ch 3, skip next 3 sts) around, join.(8 ch sps) [9 ch sps, 10 ch sps]
NOTE: Do not join rnds unless otherwise stated. Mark first st of each rnd.
Rnd 8: Ch 3, *(sc, ch 1, sc) in center ch of next ch sp, ch 3; repeat from *around, do not join.
Rnds 9-22: *(Sc, ch 1, sc) in center ch of next ch sp, ch 3; repeat from *around.
Rnd 23: Sc in each ch-1 sp and 3 sc in each ch-3 sp around, join with sl st in first sc. (32 sc) [36 sc, 40 sc]
Heel
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first 16 [18, 20] sts leaving remaining sts unworked, turn. (16 sc) [18 sc, 20 sc]
Row 2: Ch 1, skip first st, (sc, hdc) in next st, *skip next st, (sc, hdc) in next st; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Rows 4-12: Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately, ending with row 2.
Row 13: Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, sc next 2 sts tog, *sc in next 2 [3, 4] sts, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times; repeat from*, turn. (10) [12, 14]
Row 14: Ch 1, skip first st, (sc, hdc) in next st, *skip next st, (sc, hdc) in next st; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 15: Ch 1, sc in first 3 [4, 5] sts, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, sc in last 3 [4, 5] sts, turn. (8) [10, 12]
Rows 16-17: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, do not turn.
Foot
Row 1 [1]: For small and medium only, ch 1, evenly space 12 sc in ends of rows across Heel; for top of foot, working in skipped sts of rnd 23 on Leg, sc in next st, mark last st made, sc in next 15 [17] sts, evenly space 12 sc in ends of rows across Heel, do not turn. (40 sc made) [42 sc made]
Row [1]: For large only, ch 1, evenly space 12 sc in ends of rows across Heel; for top of foot, working in skipped sts of rnd 23 on Leg, sc next 2 sts tog, mark last st made, sc in next 16 sts, sc next 2 sts tog, evenly space 12 sc in ends of rows across Heel, do not turn. [42 sc made]
NOTE: The following rnds gradually decrease the width of the Sock. When Sock is the desired width, you may stop decreasing and proceed to rnd 10.
Rnd 2: For all sizes, working in rnds, ch 1, sc in each st around to 4 sts before next stitch marker, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, sc in next st, mark last st made, sc in next 15 [17, 17] sts, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, sc in each st around, do not join. (44) [48,50]
Rnd 3: *(Sc, hdc) in next st, skip next st; repeat from * around moving stitch marker in sc of (sc hdc) worked in each marked st.
Rnds 4-9: Repeat rnds 2 and 3 alternately, ending with (32 sc) [36 sc,38 sc] in last rnd.
Rnd 10: Sc in each st around moving stitch marker as each marked st is worked.
Rnd 11: *(Sc, hdc) in next st, skip next st; repeat from * around moving stitch marker as each marked st is worked.
Next Rnds: Repeat rnds 10 and 11 alternately until piece measures 1 1/2" to 2" less than desired foot length from Heel, ending with rnd 11.
Toe
NOTE: Fold Sock so that Heel is positioned at center bottom. Place one stitch marker in st at each side edge.
Rnd 1 [1]: For small and medium only, *sc in each st around to 3 sts before next stitch marker, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, mark last st made; repeat from *. (28 sc made) [32 sc made]
Rnd [1]: For large only, sc in each st around to 2 sts before next stitch marker, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, mark first decrease made, sc in each st around to 3 sts before next stitch marker, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, mark last st made. [34 sc made]
Rnd 2: For all sizes, *(sc, hdc) in next st, skip next st; repeat from * around moving stitch markers to sc of (sc, hdc) worked in each marked st.
Rnd 3: *Sc in each st around to 2 sts before next stitch marker, (sc next 2 sts tog) 2 times, mark last st made; repeat from * around.
Rnds 4-7: Repeat rnds 2 and 3 alternately, ending with rnd (16 sc) [20sc, 22 sc] in last rnd. At end of last rnd, join with sl st in first sc, fasten off.
Flatten last rnd, sew toe opening closed.
Weave elastic thread through tops of sts on rnd 1 of Cuff pulling thread slightly as you weave. Secure ends.
