Asian Buffet in Burwood East |
Such as the durian ice cream and chocolate fountain. I especially loved their chicken rice and dumplings. For food that has to be constantly cooked for many and is served in a buffet this is definitely on my list. I could say that it is more self serve as most buffets. However this is a great establishment for its price. To be honest, this was probably my favourite section.

This is reflective of all the food being served at this restaurant. Other desserts arrived, including fruit platters and deep fried Chinese milk dough. We loved the fit out and shared a meal in good company.
I would rather take my business to the Melba restaurant than the superficial China Bar. There isn’t a huge selection of sushi available because it’s lunch time, just your generic salmon rolls and a couple more. At dinner this area becomes much more exciting, because not only do things like scallop sushi get added to the selection, but this is also where they slice up the fresh sashimi. The fruits are seasonal, with apples, watermelon, oranges, and nectarines on offer. Very nice variety, many dishes to choose from, the buffet was colourful and vibrant. My favourite was a sashimi platter with raw salmon and the Hainan chicken dish was delicious.
It wasnt cheap and especially if you factor in a few beers/drinks on top. The Peking duck was the best thing, while desserts were a huge disappointment. Id say go for it at this price - just dont expect the best quality.
I haven’t been here in ages and tonight was very surprisingly still yummy. Having been around for years, China Bar CBD outlets has been known as a good place for supper, serving quality food at affordable price to late night crowds. With restaurants conveniently located throughout Victoria, China Bar has become a regular eat out spot for many locals.
Same as the one we had at China Bar Shabu Shabu, it’s absolutely delicious with its sweet kernels of glutinous rice, soft red beans, and an undertone of coconut. There was a huge vat of plain congee which we were free to ladle out and top with whatever ingredients we wanted. I topped this with century egg, pork, shallots, and fried wonton bits. It’s a bit thicker and less flavoursome than what I’d like but it was nice all the same, considering I don’t get to have it too often.

The first step was to renovate the hotel and then modernise the rest of the block. Growing up in an Italian family, food has always been a large part of my life. Food is changing nowadays, with more people experimenting, with produce, presentation and flavours, and that is what has fuelled this project - to document my journey through the food world in Melbourne. There were a few more desserts that I tried, but didn’t get a photo of, and most of them were on about the same level as the rest, with the green tea opera cake and lemon tart standing out just a little. These desserts may have looked lovely, but they mostly tasted of cream and sugar and diabetes.
Its offerings include sushi & sashimi, fresh oysters, rich variety of seafood, yum cha, Peking duck, noodle, traditional Asian soups, as well as a variety of assorted favourite Asian desserts. I still can’t decide how sold I am on gourmet buffets. On one hand, the night session at China Bar promises everything from fresh seafood and sashimi to meats grilled on demand, Peking duck and even hot pot. Judging from previous experience, I know that the dinners are definitely worth going to at least once. But on the other hand, a dinner at China Bar is a whopping $69pp on weekends – enough to stuff yourself silly at most one hatted restaurants, and a few two hatted ones too. I’m pretty sure none of those restaurants have a chocolate fountain though.
Of course there’s also your typical sweet and sour pork and honey chicken. I’ll probably be stripped of my foodie status for saying this but, I Love Buffets. To me, the sheer variety and quantity of food available excuses any corners cut in terms of quality (unless if you’re at Smorgy’s; nothing excuses food that bad). Because let’s face it – no one goes to buffets for fine dining; it’s the promise of All You Can Eat that’s luring all the people in.

I had prawn and crab dumplings and the sushi going clockwise was unagi, grilled salmon, wasabi drizzled prawn, salmon and avocado, calamari and cucumber, and hamachi. You got to pour your own soy sauce and wasabi into one of those little bowls if you wanted it - it was delicious. Anyone who wants to experience a good quality buffet experience should go to the Melba at the Langham Hotel atleast once in their life.
