You can complete a self guided walking tour of Pompeii either by following a local guide book or by renting one of the audio guides. You could spend weeks in Campania (the region encompassing Naples, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast) winding your way from its serene mountain villages to its jaw-dropping Roman ruins—Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Paestum—to its star-studded beaches and luxury resorts.
If you would like to stay on the Amalfi Coast but have a limited budget or would like to avoid the tourist crush, avoid Positano and Amalfi and instead opt for the quieter towns of Praiano, Furore, Minori, or the small fishing hamlets along the coast.





Here the road cuts through the rocks above the sea for about 40 kilometres, winding its way from Vietri to Positano, with a village popping up around every corner: Cetara, Maiori, Amalfi coast Minori, Atrani, Capo D'Orso down to Amalfi, where in the bluest of seas, the Bay of Salerno meets the Bay of Naples, and then on to Positano with the island of Capri opposite.
Wander through Piazza Tasso on any given Sunday and you'll be exposed to one of Italy's finer passeggiatas (strolls), snaking past palatial hotels, magnificent marquetry shops and simple Campanian restaurants serving gnocchi alla sorrentina finished off with a shot of ice-cold limoncello.

Alternatively you can join an optional excursion to discover the exceptional archaeological site of Pompeii, the Roman town frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. You're going to explore in fantastic company, as a Local Guide leads you through its maze of streets.

The warm July evenings are perfect for a night on the town: the center of the nightlife on the Amalfi Coast is the Spiaggia Grande in Positano where the bars, restaurants, and Music on the Rocks disco set directly on the coastal cliff fill with people.

Hawaii's Hana Highway, from Pa'ia to Hana, is a much shorter trip, but with plenty to see, from bamboo and eucalyptus groves by waterfalls to panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean that you'll remember for the rest of your life, while the Overseas Highway from Miami to Key West, which runs for 113 miles over 43 long, flat, straight ocean bridges, is the road trip equivalent of island hopping.
