'Stranger Things' Season 3 |
It's time to go back to Hawkins to see what's up in Stranger Things season 3. It could also be that the show's nostalgia for the 1980s causes it to normalize the behavior of abusive men (and boys) in ways that simply no longer play, insisting that Hopper is a protagonist, for instance, even though he spends the entire runtime yelling at his daughter, bickering with his love interest, and patronizing the kids.
According to a new piece with Collider where time has been spent on set and with the crew, actress Dacre Montgomery has promised that there will be a lot more of Billy in the new season: I think the sound bite that I would give you is, you can expect a hell of a lot more of Billy this season.” Th season also features flashbacks to Billy's childhood, with a 12-year-old actor playing younger Billy.
However, they don't have long to mourn him, because their interest is piqued by a Russian radio transmission that says they've located children on the lower level of the mall, which Joyce and Hopper know have to be the very kids they're looking for — who, little do they know, have all just reunited for basically the first time all season.
Instead, the Duffer Brothers and their massive special effects budget have taken us to Russia, where a gigantic device is shooting a laser into the crack of a wall that looks suspiciously like the portal we just saw Eleven close back stranger things season 3 at the end of season 2. The tentacles that begin creeping out of the crack only confirm that this machine, for reasons unknown, is attempting to blast its way back into the Upside-Down — but Eleven doesn't do anything in halves.
I guess because they're evil Russians” and because it's the Upside Down” are expected to serve as satisfying answers, but make no mistake: Season three is more or less an eight-episode romp whose sense of urgency is often undermined by its patently ridiculous plot.
With the way the kids are growing (read: very fast), a fifth season would probably need to tackle college—and honestly, that sounds like the perfect backdrop to wrap things up. I enjoy the simple things; I wanna see Eleven shotgun a beer—and not effing it up like Barb did—before crushing the can with her mind.
The influence of Spielberg's movies are all over Stranger Things,” perhaps none more than E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” But for Season 3, the Duffer Brothers harked back to a Spielberg film from 1975: Both Jaws” and Stranger Things 3” feature plots that spin around the Fourth of July, and both feature incompetent mayors named Larry , who don't seem to care much about the well-being of their constituents.
This 1984 fantasy film from Wolfgang Petersen becomes a major part of the climax of Stranger Things 3” when Suzie forces Dustin to sing the theme song before she gives him Planck's constant, a figure in quantum physics that Hopper needs in order to access the Russian compound and destroy the machine causing most of this season's havoc.
There are significantly more fight scenes this season, alternating between special effects-driven spectacles where Eleven shows off her powers, slugfests with Hopper trying to stand his own against a seemingly unbeatable enemy, or the kids just using improvised weapons and gumption to do what damage they can.
These puddles are capable of merging with each other to form a terrifying monster that resembles something like season one's Demogorgon combined with the Mind Flayer: It's got long, spider-like arms and the Demogorgon's layered, petal-like mouth, as well as the convenient ability to collapse back into a puddle of unkillable goo.
