Added 07/05/2004 - Meet Andrei Chikatilo, the only serial killer that Russia has ever acknowledged that they had. (Apparently the Russian government feels that serial killers are a Western abberation, and therefore don't exist in Russia.) Wrong. Chikatilo was one of the most prolific - and horrific - serial killers in human history. Beginning in 1978, he began a series of murders, mostly of children, that would last until his capture in 1990. Using his job as a factory supply clerk, with its frequent travel requirements, he kidnapped, killed, mutilated and cannabalised more than 50 victims before he was caught. His trial was a circus, with Chikatilo in a cage to protect him from the angry parents of children he had killed. Within an hour after his conviction, the police took Chikatilo out and shot him in the back of the head. No time wasted here.
