Here's my first tutorial. I made it using Photoshop Elements but I think you can use it on any Photoshop program. It's relatively easy and made for beginners. Enjoy!
Today we'll be going from this

to this

in just five short steps.
This icon really shouldn't take you all that much time to finish, it's a very easy tutorial for beginners who are new to icon making.
Step 1:Pick your base. I'll be using this lovely pic of Rita Skeeter. Sharpen the base as much as you like (I personally used 70)
Step 2:Duplicate your base and set that layer to
Screen, Opacity 100. That lightens things up a bit.
Step 3: Now we're going to change up the color in the picture. Go to
Layer-->New Fill Layer-->Solid Color and fill with
#add8f6. Or you can just copy and paste this
over your icon.
Now that it's filled with blue, set that layer to
soft light, Opacity 100. Now it should look like this:
Step 4:
Take this texture by
colorfilter and paste it over your image

Now, we still want to see Rita, so set this layer to
lighten, opacity 60. That looks much better, does it?
Step 5:Feel free to decorate your image however you like. In my icon, I added the words "Me, Myself, and I" in Violation font, size 14. You can add brushes, text, or experiment with other textures and layers to get the perfect effect you want. Be creative!

That's all there is to it! It wasn't that scary, right? Feel free to use the image, but please credit Lissy if you do use. Also feel free to post the icons you make using this technique. I really want to see what you come up with!
