The first question that arises, in fact, is whether to take a kitchen with doors in essence, perhaps to be combined with other presences in wood (doors, fixtures in general, parquet, living room, etc..), or make a choice that favors a colored door.
Leaving aside the issue of wooden doors, which certainly deserves separate attention, let's focus on this second hypothesis. In this regard, the market currently offers various opportunities for choice, from laminate to polymeric, from lacquered to glass.
Laminate doors are currently the most economically advantageous choice, not only from the point of view of cost (and therefore savings in the immediate future) but also in terms of durability (and therefore savings in the long term).
They consist essentially of a particleboard panel, with thicknesses ranging from 18 to 22mm, covered on both sides by a coating made of sheets of resins glued together for a thickness of 0.06mm.
The edge of the door, then, depending on the model, we find it finished in ABS of the same color or aluminum, aluminum effect PVC or stainless steel.
It is a waterproof coating, resistant to scratches and shocks, easy to clean.
With regard to the range of colors, it should be noted that, although less extensive than the lacquered doors, it has been greatly enriched thanks to modern technologies, adding, among other things, the glossy effect to the classic matte.
Polymeric is an evolution of laminate, of which it retains the characteristics of practicality in maintenance, with the difference that the door is always made of a panel of medium-density wood fibers with an average thickness of 18mm, but covered externally and on the edges with a single sheet of PVC thermoformed so as to become almost a single entity with the door itself. There are many more benefits that you get, and you can easily find a
PVC wrap door company near you.
The polymeric material is part of the ennobled laminates, i.e. covered with a final layer that increases its resistance to shocks and abrasions in general as well as to the action of acids.
Internally it is covered with synthetic melamine coating, white.
Also in this case quite an exhaustive range of colors, in the two versions glossy and matte.
As for the lacquered doors, these are made of a medium-density wood fiberboard class E1, lacquered with polyurethane products. Here, the range of colors is the widest ever, in glossy and matte, smooth or open-pore versions, and goes from the standard colors of each company to the entire RAL scale that almost all now offer, with a slight variation in price.
It is this possibility of personalizing the kitchen that makes the lacquered door the most loved, in some ways, by the user. In addition to the many colors, it is also possible to have curved doors. This type of finish, however, as well as being the most expensive, is also the least practical, as it is a very delicate coating and is affected by the action of any detergents or acids, as well as being particularly vulnerable to scratches and dents.
Normally, in fact, along with the kitchen, a small package of lacquer is also supplied for any touch-ups. The color of the lacquer, then, undergoes some variations over time. To remedy this inconvenience or at least to delay the effects of the inevitable process over time, it is advisable not to expose the kitchen to the direct rays of sunlight.
Lately, in the range of finishes, the solution of glass is becoming more and more popular, following what was already happening in the living rooms, not only in the wall units but also in the bases.
In this case, the door is made of a glass panel, normally lacquered in various colors or sandblasted, on an aluminum frame. The glass is obviously tempered, that is, heated to very high temperatures and then cooled suddenly. In this way, in addition to increasing its resistance to impact, in case of accidental breakage, however, avoid the production of sharp blades, because the glass shatters into tiny pieces.
In addition to lacquering in different colors, it is possible to create special designs (serigraphy).
