So you have a site concept developed that you are ready to start writing great content for.
So what's the next step?
It's time to develop your " master keyword list " which you will use to craft your WebPages. These are the words or phrases you would like to get ranked high in the search engine's for and get the free targeted traffic that this will bring to your website.
It is not enough to simply "pluck" words from the air and start writing your web pages. You need to carefully select which words and phrases to target.
Food for thought:
--------------------------------------------------------
What if there are already 10 billion web pages about your chosen keyword(s)?
--------------------------------------------------------
Do you think a small business owner can compete with large companies who invest millions of dollars into their SEO strategies for highly competitive, high traffic keywords?
Obviously the answer is no but there is a bright side to the equation if you are willing to invest time into researching your keyword phrases carefully. You will want to choose "niche" keywords that offer a combination of high traffic and low competition.
This of course is easier said than done but it can be accomplished as long as you use some of the help that is available on the internet.
Here are a couple of first steps, tips and tools you can use to put together a list of niche keywords for the website topic that you have developed.
1. Keyword Brainstorming and Research
Think of throwing out a "wide net" here and try to write down as many keywords and phrases (consisting of 2-4 words) that are related to your Website Concept as you can.
Take each one of these words/phrases and visit: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Type the first keyword phrase into the " Get suggestions for :" box and hit the search button.
This will return you a list of words and phrases that are similar to your keyword phrase and also provide you with the number of searches for each of these results on the Yahoo-Overture network for the month.
Copy all of the keyword phrases that you think best suit your site concept along with the search data into a text file or spreadsheet. Save this file as your " master keyword list ".
Note: Some of the results will be totally unrelated to your site concept you do not need to copy these into your "master keyword list".
Repeat this process for all of the keyword phrases that you initially brainstormed. By the end of this process you should have a "master keyword list" of several hundred or thousand words and phrases.
Google provides a free keyword research tool as well but does not provide the search statistics that Yahoo-Overture does. Augment your keyword list with any results that you find relevant using this tool. http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox
2. Refine Your Keyword List Part 1
You need to shorten your keyword list to a tightly targeted and highly profitable subset of your master keyword list. These are going to be the words you use when crafting your web pages for the search engines.
Start by performing searches for each keyword phrase in your master keyword list at: http://www.google.com
Google will tell you the total number of sites it has indexed for the keyword phrase that you are searching for. Copy this number into your master keyword list for each keyword phrase.
You will now have the data for the number of searches on the Yahoo-Overture network for the month and the number of competing websites for each keyword phrase in your list.
Think of these numbers as supply(websites) and demand(# of searches) . Finding the supply/demand number for each keyword phrase will help you decide which one's you want to target.
You will have to use your own judgement here depending on your goals and the amount of traffic you would like to generate. Make sure you have a nice mix high traffic and niche keyword phrases in your master keyword list.
It's not that useful to be ranked #1 for a keyword that only gets 5 searches a month. Similiarly, it is very hard to achieve high rankings for high traffic keyphrases because there is going to be a lot of competition.
Trim your keyword phrase list down to 50-100 entries and get ready for step 3.
3. Analyze the Competitor's Backlinks
There are 3 purposes to this analysis: analyzing whether a chosen keyword space is too competitive, identifying potential link partners (to be used in a later lesson), and to trim your "master keyword list" down to 15-20 keywords that have a reasonable level of competition.
To get started take the first term in your master keyword list and perform a search for it at: http://www.google.com
--------------------------------------------------------
Note: we are only going to be interested in the "top 10" results for each keyword phrase since our goal is to get listed on the first page of results for our target keywords.
--------------------------------------------------------
Our goal from this analysis is to find out how "established" your competition is in your chosen keyword marketplace. An analysis of the number of sites that link to your competitor should give you an initial indicator of how important their website is to the world. If a lot of websites are linking to your competitor they must be providing valuable content or a useful tool/service.
To find out who is linking to your competitor visit: http://www.uptimebot.com and enter the first domain from the Google Search results into uptimebot's search bar.
Uptimebot will then query all of the major search engine's and return a report showing the number of links the domain has pointing to it. A site with a lot of backlinks to it must be an information hub and therefore very important.
Perform this uptimebot search for all of the "top 10" competitors from your initial Google search results.
If you are finding that the sites in the search results have several 1000 backlinks to them you will know right away that you are going to have a hard time getting a high ranking for that keyword since a large number of links suggests that the site is already a well established information hub in that keyword marketplace.
Uptimebot also provides you with a link to the search results showing you the actual websites that are linking back to your competitor. Visit as many of these sites as you can and try to identify which ones have complimentary content to your site. You may want to consider contacting the owner's of those domains to request a link to your site.
4. Refine Your Keyword List Part 2
After performing this analysis for each keyword phrase in your master keyword list eliminate the keywords that you identify as having too much competition (i.e. too many well established "hubs"). We will use this list in the next lesson to start writing your first web page
Using these tips you should now be able to tell which market's you will be able to compete in and which one's already have too many established information hubs to make it worth your while. You will also have a list of "complimentary" websites that you may want to consider requesting links from in the future to help boost your website's "link popularity".

The future of search is unclear - what is clear is that change is rapidly happening for all of the top Internet search engines. Google as always is the frontrunner for many of these search trends, but even little guys like Ask.com are making waves. In this article, I will attempt to cover some of the more interesting search trends that are occurring today with the top Internet search engines - but I am by no means being comprehensive about the subject. Things are changing on a weekly, or sometimes even daily, basis, and future articles will cover additional developments in depth.
Universal Search
In May 2007, Google - the leader among top Internet search engines -- got people talking (again) when it rolled out its latest search concept, Universal Search. Universal Search was Google's attempt to create a single page of search results, rather than separate pages for types of results, such as videos, images, maps, and websites. When it was first introduced, many search engine optimization firms raced around exclaiming that this was one of those search trends that would change everything and that new optimization rules should be created and followed immediately.
I published an article in early 2007 in which I noted, "The problem with Universal Search is that it can muddy the results, and it can also introduce irrelevant results that a searcher cannot use (1)." I also wrote, "Clearly, Universal Search will change how an SEO campaign is run if it catches on. But this is a real if - users' search habits are hard to change overnight, even if you are Google and you essentially define what searching is and how it works (2)."
And in fact, Universal Search didn't quite take off the way Google had hoped. A post on MediaPost's Search Insider by Mark Simon boldly states, "Universal Search will probably not be viewed as the greatest Google fiasco since Google Video, but it's clear that it's failed to deliver on the vaunted promises made by Marissa Mayer back in May (3)." So will we see more of Universal Search, or will it be quietly put to the side? Will other top Internet search engines want to use it for themselves? Only time will tell, but it seems like Google needs to do a lot more work before users really warm up to it.
Personalization and Personalized Search
Personalization on the other hand seems to be one of the search trends working very well for Google and many of the other top Internet search engines. In an article I wrote a few months ago, I said "The basic principle behind personalized search is simple. When you go to Google and type in a search query, Google stores the data. As you return to the engine, a profile of your search habits is built up over time. With this information, Google can understand more about your interests and serve up more relevant search results (4)."
As it works right now, if you use a Google product (Gmail, Google toolbar, AdWords, etc.), Google is keeping track of what you search for and what websites you visit, and it's then tailoring your results appropriately. Search for "bass," and Google will know whether you mean the fish or the instrument. As I pointed out, though, there are major issues with search trends like personalization:
Privacy issues that arise from personalized search are also a big question. The EU recently announced that it is probing into how long Google stores user information (this probe was subsequently extended to include all search engines). AOL recently committed a serious blunder when it released search data from 500,000 of its users, and it was discovered that it was fairly easy to identify many people by the search terms that they use...(5)
Yet if nobody makes a fuss about this, then it's very likely Google - and the other top Internet search engines - will start tracking everyone behind the scenes, whether they use a Google product or not.
It's actually already starting - right now, the cookie Google places on your machine (did you even know they did that?) will expire in two years - but they won't really expire at all. According to the official Google blog:
In the coming months, Google will start issuing our users cookies that will be set to auto-expire after 2 years, while auto-renewing the cookies of active users during this time period. In other words, users who do not return to Google will have their cookies auto-expire after 2 years. Regular Google users will have their cookies auto-renew, so that their preferences are not lost. And, as always, all users will still be able to control their cookies at any time via their browsers (6).
Seems it won't be long before Google knows what you're searching for before you do.
Expanding "Sneak Peeks"
Ask, one of the smaller of the top Internet search engines, has been using sneak peeks to entice searchers for a while now. Searchers who use Ask.com can mouse over an icon next to many results and see a screen shot of the website. No clicking needed. Google, always watching for search trends, seems to have noticed, because they've filed a patent for expanding their own snippets (7). Soon searchers on Google may be able to read expanded summaries of pages, or longer clips of page text. This tactic appeals to searchers who are now demanding more and more information faster and faster from the top Internet search engines, and who don't want to waste precious seconds clicking on a link and then on the back button to find just the right site for their needs.
Syntax Queries
When Ask was Ask Jeeves, the butler was supposed to listen to your search queries in the form of questions and then get answers for you. The problem was, this never worked exactly the way it was supposed to. Instead of answering the question based on syntax, the engine still responded to searches in the same way others did, by analyzing the words and returning a list. Jeeves was retired with a bit of fanfare, and the engine handles queries in the more traditional manner for now. But all of the top Internet search engines have continued to work on this concept, with Google again leading the way since it has the manpower and brainpower to do so. I expect that within the next year, this will be one of the search trends that the engines will want to focus on with a greater push toward answering questions rather than just returning related results.
Speech Recognition and the Mobile Market
Speech recognition is really going to be one of the huge search trends in the coming months and years for the top Internet search engines. In an interview from this past summer, Peter Norvig, director of Google Research, noted, "[Google] wanted speech technology that could serve as an interface for phones and also index audio text. After looking at the existing technology, we decided to build our own. We thought that, having the data and computational resources that we do, we could help advance the field (8)." With speech recognition in place, one could go to Google (or another of the top Internet search engines) and use a microphone to ask a question aloud, or just say some keyphrases, and get a list back immediately.
And speech recognition has the biggest benefit for top Internet search engines when it comes to users of mobile devices. Let's face it, as advanced as those keyboards may have gotten, they're still a pain to use and it's time-consuming to type in more than a few sentences. (That's y txt msgs r lk ths, u c?). Norvig is on top of that too, noting, "In general, it looks like things are moving more toward the mobile market, and we thought it was important to deal with the market where you might not have access to a keyboard or might not want to type in search queries (9)."
More to Come
As I noted in the beginning, this is just a small sampling of the search trends for the top Internet search engines today. Google, Yahoo, and even Ask are all working tirelessly to get your business and to make search easier, faster, and more accurate. Keep checking back for future articles covering some of the other trends and following up on the ones I've already discussed.

I got into search engine optimization when Yahoo was king and Google was a gleam in Larry Page's eye so I've had a front row seat to all the big doings. And one thing I can tell you for certain is Microsoft just took off its kid gloves with the release of Bing and is looking for a shot at the reigning champ Google.
This article will show you how to hedge your bet with both contenders and come out a winner while these two Goliaths slug it out.
Round One:
First and foremost make sure you follow the one major rule that will apply to both engines; Content is King!
Although we don't yet have a clear picture of how Bing will react to all situations we do know that, since it is being touted as the first decision engine, it will focus greatly on quality of content. That said, be ready to make your pages a little longer than you did when optimizing for MSN and be certain the copy reads well.
Round Two:
Great content is not enough. It has to be well written and natural sounding. Anything that sounds like it was written for a search bot will not make it into the top one hundred let alone the top ten.
Round Three:
Still dealing with on page content, you need to carefully consider how many times your keyword is mentioned and where it is found on the page text. Both search engines will not only look for your keywords but also the context in which they are found. It is no longer enough to simply have them sprinkled in the text randomly. Now the keywords need to actually flow in the context of the text as well. This is typically taken care of for you when writing naturally but is definitely worth the extra once over before posting the final page live.
Here is a little formula to help...
1. Use one main keyword and up to two supporting keywords per page.
2. Do not repeat the main keyword more than three times on a page.
3. Do not repeat the supporting keywords more than twice each per page.
4. Try to have at least five hundred words per page.
5. Try to place your main keyword at the beginning, middle and end of the page text while keeping the writing natural and flowing.
Round Four:
Get as many high quality inbound links as possible. You already know this but it bears repeating. Search engines today are about popularity of the individual page returns. Having inbound links from Google authority sites will be more important than ever because any other search engine trying to trump Google will also be checking these stats as well as adding a few of their own.
That said, getting links from just the Google authority sites is not enough. You also want to get links from MSN's top picks (which are now Bing's top picks.)
Round Five:
To really hedge your bet, get an early leg up on your competition by becoming proficient in proven SEO software with a good track record on both Google and MSN.
And finally, look for domains for sale that are already ranked well on MSN. This could be the diamond in the rough opportunity of a lifetime for your online business.
By following these simple tips you can outdo ninety nine percent of your competition trying to share in the rewards offered by Google and Bing going head to head.

It is straight forward and simple to submit a web site for free to the search engines
and a task that can be done in a few minutes. However, there are plenty of
companies offering search engine submission services, these services re-submit your web
site to the search engines periodically for a given time period. It amazes me that
these services exist and amazes me more why people pay for them.
Google states on its web master pages that re-submitting your web site to the search engine does not make a difference to a sites
ranking or to how quickly the site appears in the rankings and from experience this is also
true in Yahoo! and MSN.
Why submit your site to the search engines?
Submitting your web site to the search engine will make your web site visible to its
robot. A search engine robot is a web spider that runs across the internet, indexing
web pages one at a time, following links it finds on other web pages. The submission
of your web site to the search engine will inform these robots to index your site. How
quickly the robot indexes your web site depends on the search engine, so no guarantees
can be made.
Once your web site has been indexed the search engine may rank your site relevant for
certain keywords it has picked up on, although these are not taken from your keywords meta data.
Again, this is not a guarantee and can take months (especially if it is Google) before your
site is visible to search engine users.
How do you know when your web site has been indexed?
The first indication of this can be seen in your web analysis tool, usually under the
section marked robots/spider visits. If you do not have such a tool, id recommend
installing AW Stats which is free and will accomplish most peoples needs, or you can
search through your web sites log files for the IP addresses of the search engine spiders.
The main IP addresses to look out for are:
Google - will be seen as Googlebot
Yahoo - will be seen as Inktomi Slurp
MSN - will be seen as MSNBot
For a more detailed list take a look at the web robots pages [http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/active/html/index.html]. Once
you have identified the robot visit to your web site, it is time to see if your web site has
been indexed. To do this you will need to go to the search engine and type in the
following command:
site:www.yoursite.com
Replace http://www.yoursite.com for the web address of your web site.
If the search engine returns your web site then it means you have been successfully added
to its index and can be found by search engine users. However, if your web site does not
appear be patient it may take a while.
How to improve the chances of being indexed?
It is possible although not guaranteed to speed up the inclusion of your web site to the
search engines by having their spiders find your web site before actually submitting your
web site to the engine. This can be done by having a web site that has already been
indexed link back to your web site.
This can be done in several ways, some are examples are to have your web site address as part
of your signature in a forum, or by having your web design company give you a link as part of
their portfolio.
In my experience this has helped considerably, and is always favorable to submitting a
web site manually to the search engines. Although, there is nothing wrong with manually
submitting your web site!
Is using a submission service bad for my web site?
This does depend on how the company submits your web site to the search engine. Search
engines have become good at distinguishing between manual submissions and bulk automated
submissions usually made from these types of services (sometimes having different URLs available),
normally when a search engine detects a bulk web site submission it will usually process them
slower than manual submissions.
What search engines should I submit to?
Be extremely wary of web sites that say they can submit your web site to 100s if not
1000s of search engines. The majority of these search engines will not provide you with
any traffic and the web site will likely sell on your email address.
You should submit your web site to the following search engines:
Google
Yahoo
MSN
Submitting your web site to these three search engines does not restrict your sites visibility
as can be seen by this web site detailing whom powers who where
submitting to these 3 actually submits your web site to many more.
Are there any other web sites my site should be submitted to?
In terms of providing your web site with the best possible start in life you should be
trying to submit your web site to the following sites:
Yahoo! Directory
Open directory project
Conclusion
Search engine submission is about making your web site visible to the search engine robots. This
can be done by manually submitting them to the search engine via their own
add site URL or from their robot finding you from another link. Search engine
submission services that re-submit your web site are in the end a waste of money.

So basically the Google ranking is given by the PageRank algorithm that is like this:
PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1)/C(T1) +... + PR(Tn)/C(Tn))
where:
PR(A) is the PageRank of page A,
PR(Ti) is the PageRank of pages Ti which link to page A,
C(Ti) is the number of outbound links on page Ti and
d is a damping factor which can be set between 0 and 1.
Here we see some interesting things: PageRank does not rank sites as a unit. Instead determines for each page individually. Also, you can see that the formula is recursively, where the Pagerank of page A is defined by the PageRanks of those pages that link to page A. So something you should consider is inbound and outbound links.
Link submission is a crucial part of ranking in Google so I will explain to you how I get ready for this process:
To start this process you will need some Anchor text and description that fit best your site. This is, create a few (5 o 6 to begin with) mixing keywords.
Place the keyword both in the Anchor Text (title) and Description.
Anchors usually can contain between 1 and 6 words and description can be up to 250 characters (this depends on the directory).
Later you can submit your site to many free Directories. Just Google search "Free Web Directories".
Here is also a small recommendation of SEO friendly directories that have really high Pagerank and can help you build a nice quality traffic:
1 ipl.org
2 dmoz.org
3 freeprwebdirectory.com
4 adirect2z.com
5 mastermoz.com
6 nuoret.org
7 searchsight.com
8 searchwiz.com
9 arakne-links.com
10 directory-free.com
Information like this will help you understand Google PageRank, and also improve your site ranking

Every website owner fully understand the importance of search engine optimization and the impact of a well optimized website on the amount of free traffic. As traditional (pay up front) SEO is slowly but surely dying off due to the fact that it has been exploited by scam offers promising but usually not delivering, a new SEO pay per result service has emerged delivering more for you money, which means you pay only once your website appears on the first page on Google.
In a nutshell, SEO pay per result service is a results based service and a SEO company will get your money only after they delivered the agreed results. This compared to traditional SEO, where you pay upfront and no results are guaranteed, is a pretty good deal. Also, you as a client have more trust in your SEO company simply because you know they will get paid only after they delivered results, which makes them really to work harder on your behalf.
Another good thing about SEO pay per result service is that you have an SEO expert checking on your website position each and every month during the length of the contract, as the goal of the SEO company is to keep you on the first page in Google. And the cost? The price structure varies from one agency to another but at Proimpact7.com you are charged on average around £70+ per keyword per month depending on the quality of the keyword (after the results have been delivered), with no set up fees etc.
From the above examples you can see there are plenty of positives of using an SEO pay per result service, but what about the negatives, are there any? With SEO pay per result service you usually end up paying more annually than when using traditional SEO. Of course, any money you pay with SEO pay per result service is always justified as your website is on the first page on Google and receiving valuable free traffic so not a real con there at all.
The only possible drawback of SEO pay per result service is that you are tied to a 12 month contract and that if you receive traffic to your website that doesn't convert and you don't see return on your investment, you still have to pay the monthly fee.
Finally I would like to say, if you want results for your money the best way to go is to use SEO pay per result service, as you will have an SEO expert working on your website and keeping a constant eye on the campaign. For those who need their site optimized only for 1-2 keywords, this service could prove very cheap to start with as there is no upfront payment required.
Jan Petrovic is founder of ProImpact7.com. At ProImpact7 I am in charge of A/B and Taguchi testing, usability service and our site inspection service. On our latest project we have increased conversion rate by 151.6% and we are very confident that we can help majority of he business with their websites. Our proimpact7.com website is on the 1st and 3nd and 4th position for "SEO pay per result service".

Keywords are an integral part of marketing a product, service, website, or anything online. External keywords as well as internal keywords must be researched and utilized in every online marketing endeavor. When the right keywords are secured, they need to be used on the website itself, and offsite as described in the five examples below.
1) First, we have PPC marketing. This is where you place ads in Google, other search engines, or targeted websites, and then pay per each click that someone makes on the ad. Keywords are targeted for the market that you want to attract and there are many strategies that can be applied to these external keywords. Many marketers find success utilizing this method of online marketing.
2) Article marketing has been proven very successful to market both products and services. External keywords are used in the title of the article, throughout the body of the article, and as the anchor text in the link that is place in the resource box that follows the article. Here again, it is most important to do thorough keyword research so that you find the key words and phrases that you can compete with online. The last thing that you want to do is put time and effort into a project that will never return results. If the keyword you target already has thousands, or tens or hundreds of thousands, of websites using it, you may never be able to rank high enough in the search engines for people to find you.
3) Using keywords as tags, or anchor text, anytime that you place your website URL online is a great strategy for the search engines because they will find these tags and be able to follow them to your website. When they see that your website is related, with the same keywords as your external keyword links, your website will be rewarded with top search engine listings. These tags also establish backlinks to your website that are highly regarded by the search engines.
4) Social media and social marketing use external keywords to link back to websites with the goal of driving traffic to the websites. People search the social sites by using keywords to find what interests them or what they want to know more about or research. If they like the content or information that is given, they will spread the word which can bring a lot of referral traffic to the website. This kind of traffic is highly targeted since the visitor is already looking for what your website represents.
5) Other forms of online advertising are also centered around external keywords that link back to the website. When you post a video online or bookmark your website or post a document from your website, you use keywords to tag the information. When participating in forums, you use keywords to find your market. Any kind of content that is placed online, in the formats mentioned and many others like podcasts, banner advertising, classified ads, even email marketing use keywords as an integral part of the process.
Marketing a website online can be done in any number of ways. It is beneficial to use at least a few of these at a time to create different funnels that can send traffic to the website. The goal is to get new visitors to the website every day so that you can present your product or service and convert visits into sales. External keywords are such an important part of the online marketing process that if you are not confident you can find the right keywords, it is well justified to outsource this essential task.
To learn more about how your website can rank high in the search engines, bringing more targeted traffic to your website, visit our external keywords page.

The majority of website advice and articles are targeted towards making money and business minded people. Search Engine Optimisation is largely a science aimed at generating traffic for websites- but this is mostly done with the aim of increasing revenue for the owner of the website.
However not all websites have the aim of building revenue. Church websites certainly don't fit into this category. Many churches are non profit organisations and a large number of churches are interested in sharing their message, and they rely on donations and will ask for them, but they view their websites in an entirely non commercial way. In fact because of this, many churches and religious organisations don't even have websites, although this is changing.
Church websites are largely information based. This information is aimed at converting a person, encouraging a person with religious thoughts, providing religious materials regularly (daily bible reading etc) or to push a certain stream of thought. Many local church websites are also used to encourage church attendance in their area. Because of the purpose of church websites, traditional commercial promotional methods are often not used.
Many religious leaders ignore popular marketing advice or advertising systems (such as Adwords) or other forms of website promotion because is intrinsically linked with commerce - but this is a mistake. In particular Search Engine Optimisation should be a large (if not the most important) priority in the building of an information based website.
Search Engine Optimisation has several components to it - the external which involves link building and other off site activities. It also has the internal which involves on-site optimisation. This second component is crucial to church websites. This takes the information about a local church and optimizes it on the website so that it captures traffic from Search Engines in the Local Area. This is likely to and does lead to new people attending churches.
Let me give an illustration. In my home town of Mt Morgan, in Queensland Australia, I built a very simple church website for Peace Apostolic Community. The site has audio sermons, church newsletters and a blog and that is all.
I optimised the site with keywords that relate to its community, and to its activities so that local people who search for those activities will see the church in the listings. So a new person moves to Mt Morgan and is looking for a church to attend, they type into Google "Mt Morgan Church" and the website for Peace Apostolic Community is displayed prominently at the top in the Google Local Listings (more on this in a minute) and then further down in 6th position as well.
No special promotion took place to achieve this position - there was no link building campaign or advertising blitz. This result is simply a benefit from on site search engine optimisation.
In addition, Google offers local businesses and organisations a Place listing. This is a free service and each church should list for their community. This increases the chance of being found in searches like the one described above.
The benefits from search engines come begin with proper optimisation of websites using keywords, and this should be a priority for church and religious leaders. SEO simply means taking the time to determine the proper keywords that are appropriate for a website, and including them in the right places like titles, page names, headings and so on.
This article may be used without permission but a link to the church website designer page must be included.

Search engine optimization involves many components including linking, keyword research, content development, page titles, and other methods used to improve your search engine rankings. All of these methods can increase your results piece by piece but there is a way to combine many of these elements into an SEO method that can improve your web ranking and drive targeted traffic to your web site. This method is designing a site map to be used with your other search engine optimization efforts. Knowing how a site map can help you improve your SEO results will help you to better design your site map and make it conform to the guidelines of ethical and successful SEO.
Site Maps Defined
A site map is a graphical or textual representation of each of the pages on your web site. Site maps can be very complex and include professional graphics and they can also be very simple and have only text. A site map helps people find the information they are looking for on your web site. You can use a site map to incorporate some of the major components of SEO and improve your search engine rankings in the long run.
Site Maps & Text
Text-based site maps are the most effective for search engine optimization purposes. This is because you can use your chosen keywords in both the content of the site map and in each link to other pages within your site. If you have carefully chosen your keywords, implementing them into your site map can benefit your search engine optimization efforts and help improve your search engine rankings.
Site Maps & Links
Links are a very important part of successful search engine optimization. When search engine crawlers visit your web site, they look for links that can be used to help determine the relevance of pages and assist with search engine indexing. If you build a web site and have a link to each one of your other pages, this can improve your web rankings and make it easier for search engines to find your site when people search for the keywords you use on your web site.
Site Maps and Content
You can also use site maps to your advantage by writing keyword-optimized descriptions of each page that you are linking to from the site map itself. Your descriptions can include several keywords that describe your products and services and make it easier for people visiting your web site to find what they need. In addition to helping you optimize your web site, site maps are a valuable resource for visitors to your site.

Google Promote, Remove and Comment Feature; Is it a death-knell on all established SEO techniques? What is it's apparent effect on Search engine optimization? How is it going to affect the SERPs (results page)? A colossal change has just been made by big G. Google could not have gotten better at what it does. It revolutionized the search engine all over again.
To the makers of Google, it is nothing short of the fairy-tale crystal ball where they can see everything happening around in the universe. Everyone online is sort of an open book to Google whether you want it or not. And just when you thought that Google already knows too much about people; about what they thought, what they dreamed, what they pursued, what they shopped, what they searched, Google comes up with another milestone idea to get people even more personal; the ability to promote, remove search results by every individual on the planet and add unique comments to any of your preferred result. Wow, so what if you decide to promote a website from 50th page to 1st page. And let's say you demote a top ranking result into oblivion, never to be seen on the 1st page again. So in one click did you just kill the hype and hoopla of search engine optimization?
Because the best of optimized pages could literally be gone out of your sight with this tool if you decided to have it so. And if it is really so, then this is the END OF THE WORLD. Is it the END of conventional SEO? Do i hear a pin-drop silence?
No need to panic yet. If you see the buttons then you must have noticed that they appear only when you are logged in to your Google account, and the reprise is that they only affect the results that you see, not what the world does. Do i hear a sigh of relief? If you want to skip my detailed analysis and description of this feature, you may straightaway read the conclusion at the bottom.
How does Google promote/remove actually work? A specific example.
To check the same, simply log in to your account, let's say you do a Google search for the keyword phrase "webkinz dollar store", and click on the promote button next to a result in a subsequent page. You will immediately see it magically go to the topmost SERP in the 1st page. If you click on 'promote' for another "webkinz dollar store" search result, it will move into the second place on the 1st page itself. You can move the second web page to the first position by clicking "promote" on it again. Now Log out and search again for the same keyword, you will see your selected pages dropping back to its original ranking position. Login again and you will notice your chosen pages are back to your promoted order. If you click remove on any of your promoted website, it will return to its previous place in your Google search results. But If you click remove randomly on any un-promoted website, it will be permanently removed from any results. Of course you can get it back to the search results by clicking on restore at the bottom. The results are associated with your Google account only so they will be constant across any computes of you account logs.
At first instance it is bound to give the webmasters a cold feet with the thought that Google has handed over the fate of search engine results to people and everything about SEO goes to the dumps. It convincingly looks like, as if now people are to alter, improvise the worldwide top results for each search term. But it certainly isn't the case. It's only for your own Google account, for your own personalized result page order. And it is important to know that every new search term will have entirely different promoted and removed results than the other.
I'm sure even the biggest of SEO experts, guides and critics must have lost their nerve for a second with their first experience with Google promote and remove feature just as much as I did. So the big question still remains, is this the end of our struggle and success with SEO? Is it really all up to searchers and surfers to decide the ranks of our web pages? Are we supposed to watch helplessly all the big and popular web pages get to the top, while the smaller ones vanishing away? Thank the stars that it isn't the case.
What is Google promote / remove system called?
It's called SearchWiki. SearchWiki lets users have their own order of promoted and removed results, and leave comments on specific links. Google thus remembers changes that are made by the account holder to the organic search results pages, and subsequent searches will then be displayed as per the user's customisations and notes. And most importantly, users will also have the option of seeing how other searchers have rated and reordered search results and view their notes as well, making search results a innovative community based initiative.
Who does searchwiki help?
In course of time, it will surely make a huge impact on how SEO affects a site in my opinion. Prior to this feature, a webmaster was the only individual who had an influence on the SEO aspects but now each and every Google user has the ability to decide where that site should be listed, making search engine results a different concept altogether. It may even revolutionize the idea or existing technology like browser bookmarks and RSS readership.
Customized search result page? Is it happening?
The way it stands now, it isn't a possibility e.g., a specific page could be pushed to the top result for everyone just by getting shoppers or enthusiasts to 'promote' that site a million times. Neither can your competitors outrank your site by clicking on removal link a thousand times.
Yes, you can now customize your search results with the organic rankings, deletions, leave notes against each page for future reference and see how other Google users have tailored their searches. SearchWiki notes will be visible to other users, identified with your Google Account nickname.
What are the implications of Google searchwiki on SEO?
It is like an alarm bell for everyone to straighten up their act, specially thin affiliate sites, spammers or the ones resorting to black hat stuff. Yes sooner or later there will hardly be a scope for anyone to deviate even by an inch from the core of search engine fundamentals. That is relevance and accuracy.
Yes, many things will be affected from sales to delivery and reporting. SEO won't be dead but it will have evolved and more oriented towards content than techniques .
Google has been remarkable in preventing spam and this new tool on the prima-facie would not only generate more direct data for Google analysis but would also also initiate a mass spam removal movement worldwide. As far as promoted and removed data is concerned, Google obviously is wary of SEO masters using proxy servers running multiple alias sites and redirect pages and unethical methods that can easily used to promote a single page. Hence they will never make a mistake of simply considering all the votes gained for a page to it's ranking algorithm for organic searches without due verification. All of this will give Google a whole new perspective to search user habit and patterns by allowing the user to mix and alter the organic results itself. Unthinkable but true that it is already happening.
What if Google decides to apply the promotional and removal data to page ranks? Dooms day?
Top 10 ranking results will be flooded with the sites that the majority of people prefer. The hottest and most popular existing pages will fill up the top slots overnight, for every imaginable keyword search phrase. The scope for newer, smaller, unpopular websites will virtually perish with no place in the top noticeable positions. As a result it will hardly ever gain a promotion. And slowly it will stand as good as removed even if it is not.
It might be great to force people to look at the most popular websites, but the small ones which are less marketed or are comparatively of less value or quality will never stand a chance. Lesser traffic can never be the final diagnostic indicator.
But look at this from the perspective of a person who's looking to find something out. If I need to learn about the "webkinz dollar store", I don't frankly care whether that comes from a small blog or a an unknown forum page, as long as I find the info I need, and its reliable. And I can always find them right where i need from anywhere in the world.
For those concerned about SEO.
The agony or the anxiety about it's effect on SEO and rankings could be erased in a second just by reminding ourselves of the one and only governing factor about search engines, that their existence itself depends and will always be on it's ability to offer accurate and relevant information to the users and not anybody else. Even searchwiki, this new Google tool is intended with no other intent but relevance. Isn't it so common find relevant content even after page 10 at times? ( I don't know about you, but I do search deep when I need information ). In such a case one would either bookmark that page or copy the content for future reference. I always sympathize with quality web pages nowhere near to the top ranking positions. That proves that just great content alone can not guarantee top ten results. A multitude of factors like SEO, backlinks, sandbox are responsible to drive a page to the top. And the process itself is slow.
Relevance will now be "of the search (Google), by the search (Google) and for the search (Google)." Sounds quite like a democratic definition of a search engine.
Not so long ago when webmasters saw the immense potential in harnessing people's bookmarking habits, the craze of social bookmarking sites diggs, del.ico.us erupted overnight giving search relevance a completely relative meaning.
Things will now change. What better to bookmark a page from within the searches in just one click with no further accounts to log in to.
Backlinks and quality links are still the driving forces behind a websites rise or fall. It is equated as votes earned from other sites. As far as Google's stand point is concerned, a natural promotion of a webpage from different un-suspicious IP addresses can count as votes of relevance for a search phrase.
Scientists are maybe still trying to unify the forces of nature into one formulae, but looks like Google almost successfully unified the world.
Welcome to Google monopoly. Look how it gets bigger by the day.
One Account: Where your world converges.
(Oh if you haven't got a Google account yet. You will be compelled to have one sooner or later)
One Search Engine: The keyword manufacturing unit. Keyword demand supply chain. Unlimited Manpower at work for the biggest keyword market. From where internet business and ecommerce are governed.
One Search Tool (External keywords tool) : Manufactured keywords put on window display. Who does have a better authority to declare than Google itself, about what people are exactly searching for? Take it or leave it.
One Traffic Estimator: (Google lets you judge the cost of your keyword too) Window shopping for keywords.
One AdWords: OK so interested parties can shop for keywords from the keyword store.
One AdSense: Auctioned keywords recycled back to the people (searcher) working in the keyword factory.
One Webmaster Tools: The manufacturers of keyword money are now the safekeepers of all your keyword rich belongings.
One Analytics: Realtime live tv telecasting keyword news to keep the buyers and sellers interested.
One Web history: Refined fuel for the keyword engine machinery. Everyone's web habit and online track records are well kept with Google. They exactly know geo-specific, cultural specific keyword needs. Well who better to assign a price-tag to a keyword up for auction?
One Homepage (iGoogle): If all these have become second nature to you, then iGoogle is the way to stay hooked. You will get a handful on your finger tips.
And Now Google searchwiki: Google taking control of what you thought is best for you.
It is like, you have helped manufacture some great and moderate keywords so far, so why don't you manufacture some great result pages with your click votes too. After all there are a free gazillion keyword workers (search engine users) in the factory (Google) at any given point in time. Keep working a bit extra and Google shall know what exactly the gazillion wants to see or not see. The fairytale crystal ball is for real now.
Where do you stand? Your best kept secrets are the best resources to the Google rulers. Google knows what buyers want, what sells most. Google knows what sellers want, what buyers are willing to pay, how much are they willing to pay for, where do best buyers come from and the sellers too. The world wide web is not so entangled for the big G anymore. They conquered the world faster than Alexander.
Everyone's Top 10 Pages will look different for the same search phrase. Scary to even think about it.
Google has gotten perfect at eradicating it's imperfections. And if you thought you had a reason to point a finger at them due to erroneous relevant results, they gave the baton to you to improvise. Google may use 20 million algorithms in a millisecond to offer what is relevant. But now they will have a gazillion more from an entire planet to vote for and review their own definition of relevant searches.
Conclusion.
What are the future projections and it's impact on SEO practices?
1. Analysis of top ten projections and reporting is likely to change based on a world consensus.
2. The definitions for pagerank and rankings for single phrases and e-commerce variables could change. If a considerable number of people are not seeing a particular result in the first pages because they have it custom configured for a particular phrase with pre-selected results crowding the top, then definitely there would be lesser click-throughs as even the top sites will be pushed back further. Thus resulting in lesser visitor count for subsequent pages and affecting pagerank algorithms.
3. Marketers and SEO experts will have to look at a bigger picture than being obsessed with pagerank and rankings for single phrases.
4. Google AdWords will become more eminent as an assured method for topping the results with paid rankings, even if the user's result page is highly customized. This means more revenues for Google.
5. When everyone starts to promote their favorite sites, the quality of content will definitely become even more undeniable (as it should be), and "classic" SEO techniques will need a complete re-orientation.
6. Marketers and SEO industry now thriving on Google, will be more proactive on Yahoo, Quil etc as alternative options.
7. Since this feature is only for Google user accounts. As of now the page rank and result pages outside logged Google accounts will very much be based on the organic SERPs. Especially given the fact that yahoo still owns more account user bases than Google. But eventually they will dominate even more with search engine market share, because of their unlimited customizable features.
8. As this Search Wiki tweak can be highly prone to spams, we won't really see any sea change in the PR status radically soon until the rest of the planet not on Google account register and start using the feature.
9. Analytics will be even more laser focussed. Google will harness immense amount of personalized data and use them to improve relevance of results. You now will have to option to know your promotion vs removal ratio for every indexed page. You will soon know your popularity rank as much as your PR rank.
10. You will soon be presented with realtime reviews on your web pages moderated or not moderated by Google.
11. Websites with genuine content and relevance will now be a super must to even fair anywhere near.
12. SEO will spell "Authority pages" more than "Optimized pages".
13. Survival of the fittest will be the new Google theory.
14. All onsite testimonials and reviews on products, services often clinically engineered or manipulated will matter less because you will have realtime online reviews even before you land on that page. (Google comment feature = Realtime reviews)
Millions of webmasters and people must still be biting their nails, trying to figure out what is wrong or right with our big Google. How is it likely to affect the already established businesses, websites and SEO? But I hope this article gives you enough insight about our fate or growth on Google in near future.
Another search engine revolution has begun with Google Promote, Remove and Comment Feature. Are you ready for the change?

The premise is simple: if you are an online content creator, whether on your website or social media, you are an author. That's how Google sees it anyway.
You may have heard that Google recently added updates to their Author Rank which allows content creators to get the credit they deserve for the content they have added to their blogs, websites, social media or news feeds.
Google says the process is simple, and from what we can see it is fair; If a content creator has a good 'reputational score' and it is clear they have an established presence on the web as a quality content creator, new additions to their content which is identified and signed as theirs will be given priority over unsigned content or content from less well known creators.
Put simply, if you build your reputation as a high quality content generator and let people know who you are, the more you build your reputation, the more your content will be given priority. Now is the time to take advantage of these new changes too. Before long, the positive SEO effects are bound to level out, especially with a rush of content creators all vying for their fifteen minutes of glorious fame at the top of a search page.
However, if you are on the ball and already have a solid rep as Mr or Mrs Cool Content, then take advantage of this now. Build yourself a strong Author Rank and you will boost your content ranking too.
Exactly how Google measure and score Author Ranks has not been released for public consumption, not surprising really, however, the word online is that Google+ is a vital key in the process. Author Rank system uses the G+1 button as a measure so if you link your content to your own Google+ profile, it will boost your Author Rank in turn.
Author Rank also likes social media - no surprise there! Likes and shares on Facebook, Tweets and RE-Tweets shine out like a beacon for Author Rank and the bots sit up and pay attention. They're looking for content which is liked, commented on and shared quickly.
The faster your followers read your content, react to it and the more readers you gain, the higher your Author Rank will be.
Don't lose out. Get creating content now, before the whole thing reaches saturation point - which won't be long. Content is King, as we've mentioned before and everyone is a writer of some kind these days.
If you want to build your own Author Rank, here's how you can achieve it:
Make sure you have an excellent Google+ profile. Keep it populated with all the details of your blog, website and social media - all your content platforms.
Always use the rel="author" correctly within the content you create. If this sounds like gobbledegook to you, because we're not all SEO specialists, ask your web developer for advice.
Make sure your content is high quality, regular, useful and relevant. Generating content on a regular basis helps boost your Author Rank by boosting your readership.
This is not an easy fix for businesses who are seeking to boost their SEO rankings. It requires dedicated and professional content creation which will be picked up by real human traffic. Fake link building, buying likes and other less than White-Hat practices will have no effect.
The Author Rank is based upon the Google bots looking for real human behaviour where people are genuinely reading and interacting with quality content from a popular creator.
Go on, get in touch with your inner writer and build yourself some real online SEO buzz by authoring your content.

Ever wonder what makes up the pieces of Google's search results? Before that question can be answered, the process of how Google delivers results must be understood. There are three key processes in delivering search engine results.
First, Google "crawls" the World Wide Web and accumulates information about websites and their content. The program Google uses to accomplish this task is referred to as Googelbot. Googlebot uses an algorithmic process to determine which sites to crawl, and how many pages to read from each site. Next Google compiles a massive index of all the words and locations of the sites it crawled.
When a Google user enters a query, Google returns a result they feel is most relevant. The results that are displayed are referred to as Snippets. In general, Google reserves the right to display what they feel is best for their users. However, you have a great deal of control about what is displayed about your agency on Google.
There are three primary components that make up a Snippet.
Title
The first line of the Snippet is the title. The title displayed comes from the title of your webpage. We have found many websites where the designer will overlook this very important step when designing websites for their customers. Webpages not titled will appear in search results with the title as "Untitled" or "Home Page" which does not encourage the consumer to click. Whereas a title listing your agency name and a slogan or short concise description of what your agency offers would encourage the consumer to click and learn more about your insurance agency.
Description
The description listed by Google typically comes from one of three places.
Open Directory - If for some reason, when Google attempts to "crawl" a site and they are unable to read it, Google will then sometimes rely on the Open Directory Project, which is listed at http://www.dmoz.org
Within the Page - Sometimes, Google pulls the description from within the page. Google determines what part of the page it will use so the description gives some context as to what the page contains.
Meta Description Tag - the most preferred method and where you have the most control of what description is displayed is the Meta Description Tag which is included in the code of your website. By including a Meta Description Tag, you have the ability to dictate what is displayed about your site.
Link Displayed
The last component displayed is the link to your website or the page on your website that meets the searchers' query. Providing a descriptive URL is another key aspect to converting a searcher. For instance, a URL such as www.sampleinsurancewebsite.com/page.php?id=5134, doesn't tell the searcher they have landed in the right spot, whereas a URL such as www.sampleinsurancewebsite.com/automobile/car_insurance_quote.aspx will.
