Judge Natalia Eremina from Ukraine joined the judging team of the Olympics in Tokyo in rhythmic gymnastics despite the fact that she was not allowed to judge at the last Olympics due to a possible conflict of interest caused by tense relations between Ukraine and Russia.
This time, the suspension did not happen, and the Ukrainian referee, together with colleagues from other countries, did not allow Averina to get gold. The Russian woman got silver. The judges gave preference to the Israeli Lina Ashram, although she made a gross mistake during her speech - the loss of the ribbon.
Silver Averina called Russia's revenge for the Olympics in Sochi
However, the judging team decided not to reduce the assessment of the performance of the representative of Israel, which allowed the latter to get ahead of Averina with the final scoring by 0.15 points.
Earlier, the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) published a list of judges who decided to evaluate the performance of the finalists in rhythmic gymnastics at the Olympics in Tokyo. It includes: Natalia Eremina (Ukraine), Eva Simon Serrano (France), Ariel Milanesio (Argentina) and Orian Suter (Switzerland).
