JERUSALEM ROCKS!
International Music Festival
September 9, 2007
at Teddy Stadium
The Festival
What: A musical event for peace to take place on September 9, 2007 in Jerusalem.
Mission: Jerusalem Rocks! will bring together musicians from all over the world in support of peace and unity. Jerusalem has hundreds of thousands of students and youth, numerous universities and a total population of 725,000. The city, its population and industry strive to show the world that Jerusalem is dedicated to peace and, more, is a growing center of today’s culture and business. However, Jerusalem has not hosted a mega international musical event in many years. Jerusalem Rocks! speaks to all these issues. It is not only a gift to Jerusalem; it is a statement to the world.
Vision:Music is an excellent way to break down societal barriers. We hope that the international media attention focused on this positive, cultural event and the worldwide resonance of Israeli and international artists along with tens of thousands of fans celebrating unity will bring the world to explore their own connections and feelings toward the Middle East while reinforcing the image of Jerusalem as a city of peace.
The Bands
The Black Eyed Peas:
The Black Eyed Peas are an American hip-hop group from Los Angeles, California, who have enjoyed worldwide pop success. The group is currently composed of will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo, and Fergie. Since their breakout album Elephunk in 2003, they have seen international fame for their pop/dance-influenced style of hip-hop music. The Black Eyed Peas have sold an estimated 27 million albums and singles worldwide.
Arrested Development:
Arrested Development is an American progressive hip hop group, founded by Speech and Headliner as a positive, Afrocentric alternative to the gangsta rap popular in the early 1990s.
The Commitments:
Following a worldwide media tour in 1991 to promote the global success of the Alan Parker film of Roddy Doyle's acclaimed novel, the band went their separate ways. During the promotion, there were so many requests for the band to tour, that by 1993, The Commitments had been reborn as a real, working band, playing their special “Dublin Soul”. They have toured the world ever since & on many special occasions, their co-stars from the movie including Michael Aherne, Robert Arkins & Johnny Murphy perform with the band.
The biggest international music event EVER in Jerusalem!
