S – edge stitch

K – knit

P – purl

K2tog – knit 2 together

Ribbing - P2 K2

 

The size is for a baby of 12 months,

using cotton yarn and No. 3 needles.

Or, using a similar yarn of about 270 meters and 100 grams.

 

Front pieces

 

 

The right and left pieces are knit in the same way only the right side is monochrome, and the left in stripes.
 Both sides can be made in one color. 

Choose also which side has the buttonholes: traditionally buttonholes for girls are on the right side, and for boys - on the left.

Front Right side:

CO 44sts and garter stitch 92 rows. Number of rows can be adjusted - shorter or longer.  Adjust other parts accordingly.

Next, evenly decrease 16 stitches for the armhole (8sts decrease on two right-side rows)

 

+3 rows

Row 93– Slip st. K3, k2tog repeat from * to * until 3sts remain on the needles, knit them: K2, P1.

Row 94 – S1, Knit to end, P1

Row 95 – S1, K2, k2tog, K2, P1

95 rows

28sts left on needle

Then add 60 rows:

S1, P2, K2, end with P1

60 rows

Do not bind off the stitches.

 Finish the work right side facing, and the working yarn is on the right side.

Move this piece to another needle out of the way.

 

Total of 155 rows

 The Front Left-side is knit the same way.

 

Back

Right front piece facing, add CO 24sts then add the 2^nd front piece right side facing.  Now – 80sts on the needle.

Then, knit 4 rows as follows: Side stitches in ribbing pattern, middle pieces in garter stitch and side stitches in ribbing pattern.

 followed by 60 rows ribbing except for slipped stitches at the beginning of each row and purl stitches at the end of each row

Then switch to 91 rows garter stitch
