My Most Anticipated Movies of 2011 |
As we kick off a new year in theatre, I thought I'd take time to look forward in the films we'll be hit with over the course of the year. In this article, I'll be moving more than exactly what my 15 most anticipated movies are for the year. Now it should be said, these aren't the films that I feel are the finest of 2011 necessarily. Rather, they're the ones that, because of the time of this writing, I hope the most. /papystreaming1.livejournal.com/">useful content /1200x800/filters:focal(966x566:1334x934)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/57988089/Movies_end_of_year_2017.0.jpg" alt="Photo of the Remarkables mountain range in Queenstown, New Zealand." class="GeneratedImage">
1. Sucker Punch
Writer: Zack Snyder and Steve Shibuya
Genre: Action Fantasy Thriller
What is it: A young woman is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating into an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a strategy which will help her escape out of the facility.
Why it ought to be good: Really sexy and badass chicks wearing schoolgirl outfits and other skimpy clothes, with swords and guns, coupled with Snyder's awesome visual flair? Yea, definitely count me . The trailer for this thing just looks completely great. From the style to the activity, the story (while seeming a little out there) appears cool. I am beginning to thoroughly appreciate Snyder's work. If The Adjustment Bureau may be this season's newest Inception due to its mindfuck narrative, then Sucker Punch may absolutely be this season's Inception meets The Dark Knight meets 300 meets Inglorious Basterds due to it's fashion and epic experience, nevertheless dark tone with alternate realities. This film just oozes style and badass-ness and I really can't wait for what is guaranteed to be an absolutely enjoyable, epic experience.
Why it may suck: Snyder can be somewhat off his mark sometimes. While Watchmen was pleasurable, it did get a little dull. And Legend of the Guardians is said to suffer from some pacing issues as well and has drawn mixed reviews from critics. Though to be honest to Snyder, '' he composed neither of these movies, but is accountable for the writing (or screenplay) of their badass 300.
2. Sherlock Holmes 2
Writer: Kieran and Michele Mulroney
Stars: Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Noomi Rapace and Stephen Fry
Release Date: December 16, 2011
Genre: Action Mystery
What is it: Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.
Why it ought to be great: I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan. The Doyle stories still stand as my favorite novels now. I love Sherlock. He is such a badass. And finally, a film seems to have captured that pretty nicely. The first was clearly one of the better portrayals of Sherlock I had seen. Instead of being portrayed as a snooty,'proper' and complex Englishman, he had been shown together with all the rough edges that Doyle wrote . While the movie was indeed Hollywood-ized beyond anything you'd see in the novels, it was a fun experience and quite an enjoyable film. Guy Ritchie is a very good filmmaker too. For all these reasons, and my love for Sherlock, I'm very much eager to see how Part 2 ends up, particularly as they go head-to-head with Moriarty. Additionally, I'm eager to see how well Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, etc) does in her Hollywood debut.
Why it could suck New authors. The first writers from the first aren't coming back instead Kieran and Michele Mulroney are taking over the job. So let us see how they handle it. Relatively new to writing, the two previously wrote Paper Man that didn't fair so well with critics.
