Nowadays I think pretty much every webmaster and web site owner knows that if you can get more quality backlinks to your web site, it can help you improve your rankings in search engines (especially Google). The higher your rank in search engines, that is to say the nearer the top of the search results you are for searches on relevant keywords, the more traffic that your web site will get. And, the more traffic that your web site gets, the more money you can make, whether it is from selling your own products and services, from commissions on sales of affiliate products, or from advertising programs such as Google AdSense.
One obvious way to get links to your site is to exchange links with other sites. As much as anything is, this might be considered a traditional form of web site promotion. Exchanging links is however time consuming, since you need to spend time finding sites to swap links with, and you must then set up the links and monitor them on an ongoing basis. Another disadvantage of each exchanging links, is of course that you are not just links coming into your site, you also linking to, and sending traffic to, other sites.
If you want other sites to link to you, without having to link back, there are several options:
1. You may be able to find some directories that accept free submissions. Of course, the number of good quality directories that accept free submissions is usually quite limited - as too many free submissions will tend to result in a good quality directory quickly turning to junk.
2. You may be able to pay other sites to link to you. Of course this can cost quite a bit of money, and you may also find that search engines take a dim view of such activity - perhaps penalizing or evening banning your site from their listings!
3. You can provide interesting content on your site (known as "link bait") and simply hope that people choose to link to it. Of course, you may get lucky, but this approach is hit and miss to put it mildly.
4. You can write articles and submit them to article directories. This is actually the best option, since writing a few hundred words about a topic which relates to your business and which you already know something about, is not too difficult. When you submit your article to a directory, you will be allowed to include a "resource box" or "bio" section, which may contain a backlink to your own web site. Additionally, since there are hundreds of article directories, even writing a single article can result in hundreds of backlinks. Of course, the difficulty is that submitting to hundreds of directories can take a lot of effort if done manually - so I'd suggest you invest in some article submitter software, and automate the process. Don't expect massive results from just one article, but if you make writing and submitting articles a regular activity, over time, it can lead to some impressive results.

Keywords are an integral part of marketing a product, service, website, or anything online. 5) Other forms of online advertising are also centered around external keywords that link back to the website. When you post a video online or bookmark your website or post a document from your website, you use keywords to tag the information. When participating in forums, you use keywords to find your market. Several weeks ago the question of a new Google case sensitive search started appearing in a couple of message boards. I've noticed this phenomenon myself especially over the last two weeks when working on a particular customer's website.
This issue impacted communication with the customer. At first, I thought it was a matter of the client and myself looking at results from two different data centers. Then I realized that the client was using capital letters in some words but not in others while searching and this impacted the results in Google.
For years, Google and the other search engines have stated that their searches are not case sensitive. But, now that seems not to be the case for some keyword phrases. You'll have to note, however, that not all keyword phrases are impacted by the use or non-use of capital letters.
I've experimented somewhat with this and the results are mixed. Those who have weighed in on the message boards have also reported mixed results as well. There is a thread on the Digital Point forum that talks about this issue and the use of "Cool Time" versus "cool time" while searching Google.
Some people report seeing different results while others don't. I can verify that I do see different results from these two searches. For me, when doing this search, the first two spots in the SERPs are the same, while the third spot on down are a bit different.
There are also threads over at Search Engine Watch and Webmaster World that are reporting the phenomenon but not the impact of the same issue. Now, the first question that pops to mind is "why?" What is the motivation for having a Google case sensitive search?
Right now, I can only speculate. Perhaps this is one attempt to thwart blog comment or message board spam? Or, perhaps this is an attempt to differentiate between a company's official name or a product name and a generic word.
The impact of this Google case sensitive search could be large for some sites. Perhaps their company name is part of their primary homepage key phrase and they rank well when using capital letters for their company name. But, suppose most searchers type in lower case and the same website doesn't rank as well in lower case.
This also brings to mind another question. Will link-builders now have to use anchor text with both upper and lower case letters in order to achieve optimal results in the Google SERPs? Do capital letters now affect the title and meta tag areas?
For many business owners case sensitive search will be a non-issue. But, for those that are affected knowing the answers to these questions may have a very large impact on their bottom lines.

Google's 15th anniversary marked a milestone in their very successful search engine which also brought upon the announcement of their new algorithm that was launched one month earlier; Hummingbird.
Although many SEO tactics had to be changed or modified rapidly to keep up with the new algorithm, Google seemed to have brought upon an even more intelligent way of classifying sites.
However, Penguin 2.1 is far from perfection as weaknesses have recently been spotted within it. The catch is that competing websites can very easily create negative back-links and negative SEO for their competition.This act not only penalizes the website, but it makes it very difficult to get back up again.
Some companies recently became victims of this competitive fraud. Potential competitors created roughly 5000 - 6000 negative links pointing directly towards then, bringing them down in the rankings of Google.

If you're building links, you may be wondering how long it will take Google to recognize those links. What many people don't know is that some links may never be found unless you do something about it. Let me share that something with you quickly.
If Google doesn't know that your link is on a page, it won't actually cont for much.
So how do you get your links on those pages recognized?
When submitting content or links to some sites, you won't have to do anything at all. A lot of sites get indexed within a few hours without having to do anything at all to your links. It's a great idea to participate on sites like this that get indexed on their own, because it makes less work for you.
Other sites aren't so easy to get indexed. For example if you're doing a profile backlink, it's not likely to get indexed on it's own. With a link like that, you'll need to take some time to get the link indexed.
Wait a second... indexed?
The easiest way to see if a page is indexed in Google is to take the url of the page your link is one, and put that into the search bar and search for it. If the page is found, and the results return with a direct link to the page, then your link is indeed indexed.
If your link is not found, then something needs to be done with the link to get it indexed.
So how does a page get indexed?
I'm glad you asked! Indexing isn't as easy as it used to be. A few months ago, you could put all of your links into an RSS feed, and submit that feed through RSS submission sites, and ping your links.
Unfortunately this method isn't working as well as it used to.
The best way is hands down to build more backlinks to your backlinks. Yes, you read that right, you need to backlink your backlinks. If this sounds like a lot of work, it really isn't if you're doing it the right way.
Something else you'll want to keep in mind when you're building your backlinks and checking on them to get indexed is that a lot of the free tools that check backlinks aren't very effective.
We all like to take a look at another sites backlinks to see how many it has, and that's one of the main reasons at best you'll only see 10% of your links show up through those tools.
The Yahoo tool has been the most popular for a really long time. I'm not sure why though when most people are worried about ranking in Google, they're checking Yahoo to see how many links Yahoo recognizes! But I myself do this too... I'm still not sure why though.
I've done SEO services for clients, backlinked their backlinks, sent them a report of the links for them to check after I verified that 100% of the links were indexed and they responded asking me why none of the links were showing up in Yahoo.
So keep in mind that these tools aren't very effective, and you wouldn't want them to be! Just imagine how much easier it would be for your competitors to outrank you if they knew every single of the sites linking to you.

Google Promote, Remove and Comment Feature; Is it a death-knell on all established SEO techniques? What is it's apparent effect on Search engine optimization? How is it going to affect the SERPs (results page)? A colossal change has just been made by big G. Google could not have gotten better at what it does. It revolutionized the search engine all over again.
To the makers of Google, it is nothing short of the fairy-tale crystal ball where they can see everything happening around in the universe. Everyone online is sort of an open book to Google whether you want it or not. And just when you thought that Google already knows too much about people; about what they thought, what they dreamed, what they pursued, what they shopped, what they searched, Google comes up with another milestone idea to get people even more personal; the ability to promote, remove search results by every individual on the planet and add unique comments to any of your preferred result. Wow, so what if you decide to promote a website from 50th page to 1st page. And let's say you demote a top ranking result into oblivion, never to be seen on the 1st page again. So in one click did you just kill the hype and hoopla of search engine optimization?
Because the best of optimized pages could literally be gone out of your sight with this tool if you decided to have it so. And if it is really so, then this is the END OF THE WORLD. Is it the END of conventional SEO? Do i hear a pin-drop silence?
No need to panic yet. If you see the buttons then you must have noticed that they appear only when you are logged in to your Google account, and the reprise is that they only affect the results that you see, not what the world does. How does Google promote/remove actually work? A specific example.
To check the same, simply log in to your account, let's say you do a Google search for the keyword phrase "webkinz dollar store", and click on the promote button next to a result in a subsequent page. You will immediately see it magically go to the topmost SERP in the 1st page. If you click on 'promote' for another "webkinz dollar store" search result, it will move into the second place on the 1st page itself. You can move the second web page to the first position by clicking "promote" on it again. Now Log out and search again for the same keyword, you will see your selected pages dropping back to its original ranking position. Login again and you will notice your chosen pages are back to your promoted order. If you click remove on any of your promoted website, it will return to its previous place in your Google search results. But If you click remove randomly on any un-promoted website, it will be permanently removed from any results. Of course you can get it back to the search results by clicking on restore at the bottom. The results are associated with your Google account only so they will be constant across any computes of you account logs.
At first instance it is bound to give the webmasters a cold feet with the thought that Google has handed over the fate of search engine results to people and everything about SEO goes to the dumps. It convincingly looks like, as if now people are to alter, improvise the worldwide top results for each search term. But it certainly isn't the case. It's only for your own Google account, for your own personalized result page order. And it is important to know that every new search term will have entirely different promoted and removed results than the other.
I'm sure even the biggest of SEO experts, guides and critics must have lost their nerve for a second with their first experience with Google promote and remove feature just as much as I did. So the big question still remains, is this the end of our struggle and success with SEO? Is it really all up to searchers and surfers to decide the ranks of our web pages?
