Hello Happy de Benefit, a prueba

There’s no denying fashion is having a serious love affair with the 80s right now. The Fall 2018 runways brought back all manner of Dynasty-era trends, from jewel tones to puff shoulders. And the Kardashians have, unsurprisingly, jumped on board as evidenced by their recent commitment to the neon revival.

Style stars are also embracing the 80s, hitting the streets in shoulder pads, leopard prints, big belts, fuchsia and more. But for the rest of us who don’t make a living off of dressing for the cameras, is this a look that’s actually doable? The answer is yes. Well, sort of.

OK, so maybe a big-shoulder sequin blazer isn’t apropos for your everyday life. But there are ways to introduce this throwback trend into your wardrobe without looking like you’re stuck in a time warp. Choosing one piece that nods to the decade and styling a modern look around it will ensure your outfit doesn’t go off the rails and into “I’m an extra from Purple Rain” territory. Luckily, stores right now are stocked up with 80s-inspired styles that fit the bill. You’ve got your pick of everything from one-shoulder dresses and faux leather miniskirts to logo print bags and dad sneakers.

Ahead, we’ve picked 12 on-trend pieces that let you get your 80s on in a wearable way. We promise you’ll look totally bad (the good kind).

Ariel Winter Debuts "Little Mermaid" Red Hair on Instagram

Четверг, 22 Августа 2019 г. 06:30 + в цитатник

Ariel Winter has kissed her dark locks goodbye! The Modern Family actor took to Instagram to unveil her gorgeous new ‘do, courtesy of Tabitha Dueñas and Tim Dueñas of Nine Zero One Salon in West Hollywood, CA. The duo collaborated to take Ariel’s brunette tresses to a much lighter, brighter copper, and we’re living for all of the Little Mermaid references.

Ariel captioned her Insta “part of yourrrrrr worrrrrld,” with two mermaid emojis thrown in for good measure, and hair stylist Tim Dueñas tagged his own pic of his handiwork with the oh-so-fitting hashtag #MermaidShag, sure to be the hot look of summer ‘19. Twinning with the OG Ariel is never a bad thing!

Likewise, Tabitha shared her own snap of the actor, teasing an upcoming play-by-play of how they transformed Ariel’s mane from black to red. “I love doing a big change!” the stylist wrote.

Fans were quick to lay on the compliments as well. YouTuber and ginger compatriot Jessie Paege commented “WELCOME TO THE CLUB,” and fellow copper-tressed actress Bella Thorne simply stated “Love.” Some commenters even confessed to thinking Ariel was Bella in this picture. The redhead sisterhood is real, people.

This isn’t the first time Ariel has switched up her shade for something more fiery; previously, she took on a deep burgundy hue for 2018’s The Last Movie Star. We’re loving how seamlessly Ariel can rock every shade of the red spectrum. After all, as any stylist will tell you, reds are some of the most notoriously difficult shades to both achieve and maintain. But allow us to be of service: our guide to going red offers up professional tips and tricks to make sure you’ll be bringing the fire during your own IRL Little Mermaid moments for months to come.

How Dounia Changed Her "Internet Narrative" From Influencer Model to Up-and-Coming Pop-R&B Star

Понедельник, 19 Августа 2019 г. 06:41 + в цитатник

During the month of June, Teen Vogue is celebrating rising music stars who transcend genres. Through in-depth profiles, we're highlighting artists who make songs our readers should know and will love.

Name: Dounia
Age: 22
Hometown: Queens, NY

In the chorus to her new song “Trust Issues,” Moroccan-born, Queens-raised R&B-pop artist Dounia assesses the room with a wink and a withering glance: “To be honest, y'all look bored/This look like a job for me.”

She's more than ready to take on the current overstuffed, overwhelming power pop landscape, and flip it. There’s something about Dounia’s cool couplets overtop a slow step-soul beat that feel crisp and salty. It’s the kind of music that makes you bite back a laugh when you listen, even as she’s “plotting your demise.”

"Trust Issues" is one of four songs on her May EP Not Good for the Ego, which even in its minimalism covers a range of emotions and genres, all creative directed by Dounia, who writes, sings, and often produces her tracks. She started her career as a teenager, modeling for Forever 21, Sephora, and Fashion Nova before parlaying that financial success and her body-positive message into a music career. She’s so far released a series of EPs, including the critically-acclaimed 2018 Avant-Garden, which featured a breakout single in the Kehlani collab “Rich Girl Mood.”

“It's crazy how I was able to shift my brand so entirely,” Dounia says of the fact that she’s now known for her music rather than her modeling. “My internet narrative has flipped. I was already making music [back as a model], but it was just such a hobby of mine that [I didn’t] factor in that it could be a feasible career option.”

Born in 1997, Dounia has age-appropriate references in that career, sampling lyrics from Eminem’s “Without Me” and citing Taylor Swift as an inspiration for learning guitar (“I had a Taylor Swift complex in middle school,” she says. “I was like, ‘Uh, he likes the girls with the heels and I'm over here with my Jordans.’”) Like so many young people now, she also doesn’t shy away from activist messages in her work, whether it’s a critical Instagram post about the idea of the “perfect” body or lyrics that allude to exploitative systems and the one percent. “I think I am a person that always criticizes capitalism, you know?” she says. “I preach not fixating on your material wealth, so even when I did ‘Rich Girl Mood,’ I talk about it in a sense of like, "Who feels a richness? Who feels spiritually rich? I’m always on my rich girl mood, regardless of my bank account.”

An Astronaut's Photographs from a Year in Space

Every Behind the Scenes Picture From Ariana Grande's "Thank U, Next" Music Video

Понедельник, 12 Августа 2019 г. 05:15 + в цитатник

If you haven’t been refreshing Ariana Grande’s social media this weekend, I don’t know what to tell you other than you’re doing Thanksgiving break life all wrong. The singer-songwriter has been teasing fans with BTS clips from her “thank u, next” music video, which is apparently inspired by four iconic 2000s films: Legally Blonde, 13 Going on 30, Bring It On, and Mean Girls.

But we get it; constantly checking a celeb’s Instagram takes time, and you’ve got holiday shopping to do. That’s why we’ve done the work for you (feel free to thank us later). Ahead, check out every single BTS moment from “thank u, next,” categorized by each classic movie that Ari loves just as much as you do.

Mean Girls

Ariana kicked off her slew of teasers with pictures of her friends, accompanied by classic Mean Girls quotes. “‘Yeah, but she’s my first cousin,’” one post read, while another said: “‘Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?’” Clearly, Ari can recite the 2004 film by heart — who can’t, tbh?

Later, Ari shared ‘grams in full Regina George mode, complete with a Burn Book of her own. Oh, and is that Jonathan Bennett — AKA the actual Aaron Samuels — we spy in one of her pictures?! Someone needs to push his hair back, stat.

Legally Blonde

Who better to embody the ~mood~ of “thank u, next” than Elle Woods herself? (What, like it’s hard?) We’ve seen Ari posing with Elle’s signature orange laptop from the 2001 movie, and she even grabbed coffee with Paulette, played by Jennifer Coolidge (presumably after teaching her the Bend ‘n Snap). Oh, and don’t worry — Bruiser Woods makes a cameo as well.

13 Going on 30

If you’ve ever dug out your old dollhouse after watching 13 Going on 30, hoping it might transport you in time, you’re in good company. Ariana shared a snap of what seems like a pretty solid replica of the dollhouse belonging to Jenna Rink (portrayed by Jennifer Garner) in the 2004 movie. On Twitter, Ari posted a selfie sporting her new shoulder-length hair, captioning the picture with the words “big time magazine editor” — just like Jenna. Please tell me the striped dress from the infamous “Thriller” scene also makes an appearance!

Bring It On

Ariana left the fourth film for last, leaving many fans wondering what it could be. But when she posted the reveal — in the form of a breathtaking photo in full cheerleading garb — the mystery was instantly solved.

“‘I transferred from Los Angeles, your school has no gymnastics team, this is a last resort!’” Ari captioned the picture, quoting the rebellious Misty Pantone (Eliza Dushku) from the 2000 movie. A perfect look, a forever mood.

From there, Ariana shared more pictures of herself in uniform, as well as photos of other cheerleaders, some dressed up as the Clovers.

One thing is for sure: this video is bound to be so epic, we’re going to need a whole new word for epic.

Grange Hill cast are reunited on This Morning

Суббота, 03 Августа 2019 г. 06:04 + в цитатник

School reunion: The cast of Grange Hill meet again on This Morning FORTY years after the show first hit screens – having gone on to be locksmiths, PR gurus and City workers (but what happened to their other co-stars?)

  • Children's drama set at a North London comprehensive first aired in 1978
  • Lee MacDonald who played Zammo McGuire now runs locksmith business
  • Terry Sue-Patt was found dead aged 50 in 2015 after battling a drink problem
  • Todd Carty has successful soap career while John Alford was busted for drugs

By Unity Blott and Siofra Brennan For Mailonline

Published: 13:29 GMT, 20 November 2018 | Updated: 16:48 GMT, 20 November 2018

Some of the best-loved cast members of Grange Hill have been reunited 40 years after the much-loved children's drama series first hit screens.

Fans were left feeling nostalgic after seeing Lee MacDonald (Zammo), Paula-Ann Bland (Claire) and Lisa York (Julie) on the This Morning sofa on Tuesday.

The trio, who were there to promote the release of series 5 on DVD, were joined by the show's creator Phil Redmond as they reminisced about the show's heyday.

The series broke new ground when it first crashed onto the scene in 1978, thanks to its gritty and realistic portrayal of life at a north London comprehensive, which was a world away from the more sanitised kids' TV dramas that had gone before it.

Grange Hill stars (pictured L-R: creator Phil Redmond, Paula-Ann Bland, Lee MacDonald and Lisa York) left fans feeling nostalgic when they reunited on This Morning's sofa today

Grange Hill, which launched the careers of a whole generation of British child stars,  celebrates its 40th anniversary this year (pictured in 1981, left to right: actors Paula Taras, Lee Sparke, Erkan Mustafa, Alison Bettles, Nadia Chambers and Lee MacDonald)

From affairs with teachers to heroin addiction, the writers didn't fail to tackle hard-hitting issues.

The show ended its run on 15th September 2008, making it one of the longest-running series on British TV, but how did the young fast fare after shooting to fame at such an early age?

Here Femail reveals the paths some of the much loved child actors have taken decades on from their small screen stardom.

PAULA-ANN BLAND

Played: Claire Scott

Actress, entrepreneur and PR boss Paula-Ann Bland played edgy Claire Scott (left) in the hit show, who had a crush on teacher Mr Hopwood. The show began its run on February 8th 1978 on BBC 1, and was one of the longest running programmes on British Television when it ended

The series one cast Grange Hill (left to right) Vincent Hall as Michael Doyle, George Armstrong as Alan Humphries, Mark Eadie as Andrew Stanton, unidentified male, Todd Carty as Tucker, unidentified female, Terry Sue Patt as Benny Green and Robert Morgan as Justin Bennett. Front (left to right) Michelle Herbert as Trisha Yates, Lyndy Brill as Cathy, Linda Slater as Susi McMahon and Ruth Davies as Penny Lewis, 1978

Paula-Ann's edgy character Claire caused a stir by fantasising about teacher Mr Hopwood in her diary, who was then attacked by her overprotective father.

She also enjoyed a romance with Stewpot, before discovering he was seeing Annette Firman behind her back.

Because of her success on the small screen record company bosses eyed Paula-Ann as a potential 'British Kylie' and she even released a cover version of The Locomotion.

She left the series in 1985 and continued to act, appearing in TV series such as Spender and Only Fools and Horses.

In 1988, she caused a stir by posing topless for men's magazine Mayfair.

During the '90s she turned her back on acting and opened shoe shops called Paola in Knightsbridge and Chelsea before starting her own PR company.

And not only is that important to students, parents, and fellow staff, but it is also vital for the school’s new principal who is trying to gain the trust of the community during a time in which trust is so necessary for schools.

Being new to the campus, I think the parents were able to see how much I value their children and have their best interest at heart,” Garcia continues. “I have had many parents tell how they can just feel a difference in the campus climate and how much they are enjoying seeing their children wanting to come here. How I’m Building My Investment Wardrobe

/kristinabraly.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/pink-sweater-2sm-600x900.jpg" target="_blank">https://kristinabraly.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/pink-sweater-2sm-600x900.jpg 600w, https://kristinabraly.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/pink-sweater-2sm-1440x2161.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px" />As I’ve gotten older, I’ve actually purchased less. I know what you may be thinking, “Kristina, what are you talking about, you buy things all the time.” While I won’t disagree with you–this girl definitely knows how to feel spendy–I have to say, that I purchase less (quantity) though I may on occasion spend more.

Why?

Because I am more interested in investment pieces that will last me a decade, rather than a season.

Because I am more interested in saving up for a purchase than I am blowing the same amount on hauls of clothing that I may wear once, or *gulp* admittedly never at all.

/kristinabraly.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/pink-sweater-4sm-600x900.jpg" target="_blank">https://kristinabraly.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/pink-sweater-4sm-600x900.jpg 600w, https://kristinabraly.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/pink-sweater-4sm-1440x2160.jpg 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px" />

But that isn’t my only secret.

One can’t transform one’s wardrobe overnight from fast-fashion to investment closet. If you can, more power to you! I can’t bring myself to do so, nor could I afford it!

Instead, I slowly add pieces to my collection that will work, with anything. Black jeans. These gorgeous black loafers will literally never go out of style.

And then here’s the kicker: I will buy less than a handful of “on-trend” fast-fashion pieces that I know will be out of style in a few years, just to keep my look current. This sweater is an example. Affordable, cosy, well-made, but not with a designer price tag because let’s be honest: will this be in fashion in ten years? No.

A grey suede bag and black horse-bit loafers on the other hand? Timeless.

How to Wear a Vintage Nautical Look, Over 40 Style #iwillwearwhatilike

How to Wear a Vintage Nautical Look, Over 40 Style \ stripe Breton top \ vintage nautical print pleated midi skirt \ red espadrilles \ white fringe bag | Not Dressed As Lamb, over 40 fashion

So as summer is drawing to a close, I thought I’d go with that classic warm weather style: nautical.

Not only nautical, but I’ve gone for a vintage nautical look. This skirt is so old (I know it’s vintage, but I bought it years and years ago) and it’s appeared so many times on the blog that I’m thinking it’ll never go out of fashion. But then, does any vintage piece actually go out of fashion? Some looks may be more popular than others at any one time, but unlike new pieces they can’t date because they’re already dated (in a good way of course) – do you do know what I mean?

Make sure it’s so old-fashioned that it’ll never go out of fashion… now THERE’S an oxymoron if ever there was one!

Though to be absolutely honest, this outfit came about for practical reasons. It started with the skirt, which has an elasticated waist. Considering the occasion I wore it to was a birthday party/barbecue (over the bank holiday weekend), elasticated waists are pretty much the unspoken official dress code. Plus a Breton t-shirt is just about the only thing you can possibly consider if you’re doing the nautical thing, amirite?

SHOP THE LOOK:

Although most of the outfits I wear every day don’t appear on the blog (seriously, you do NOT want to see my neverending repeats of sweatpants and sweatshirt, dungarees and t-shirt, slouchy maxi dress and cardigan, etc. etc.), I AM running out of options for something different to wear on a daily basis. After moving house last month we’re still without wardrobes (long story short: can’t buy and put up wardrobes till the designated bedroom is clear of boxes, can’t clear the boxes till the loft is boarded), so all my autumn/winter clothes, shoes, boots and jackets are packed away in boxes still.

And pretty inaccessible.

Therefore the summer needs to just hold out a bit longer till I can finally unpack my warmer clothes. Until then I have to make do with the few pairs of shoes and sandals I have (hence these red espadrilles appearing so much on the blog!) as well as whatever I have in the way of dresses, skirts and tees. I’m just getting a bit tired of looking at the same few things on our temporary clothes rail… living out of boxes is challenging, to say the least!

Something coming up soon…

A few of you commented (very kindly!) on my post where I mentioned gaining so much weight recently, and it seems it resonated with quite a few of you. Middle age spread is real, ladies!

While there are a lot of factors that have contributed to my weight gain (most of them self-inflicted, to be fair), my health (and future health) is a big concern to me. I can’t go on much longer with how generally lethargic, tired and headachey I feel most of the time, plus my skin and joie de vivre are suffering. Something REALLY has to be done if I don’t want to end up having a health crisis in the very near future.

Now, it’s as if the blogging gods heard my cries, because next month I will be going on a six-day vegan detox retreat that was very kindly offered to me… I cannot WAIT.

It’s exactly what I need to kickstart my healthy lifestyle again. I will, of course, be writing about it on the blog (I’m currently negotiating terms but at the moment it’s unpaid with no obligation), so do look out for that in about mid-October. At the retreat you’re encouraged to leave your mobile phone in your room for most of the day, so that in itself is going to be a challenge

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week!

DO YOU FIND THAT YOUR VINTAGE PIECES NEVER SEEM TO GO OUT OF “FASHION”? TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS…!

The #iwillwearwhatilike link up with Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Linking up etiquette…

Everything You Need to Know About the Amazon Sex Position

Пятница, 12 Июля 2019 г. 05:18 + в цитатник

While it's unclear why this sex position is called the Amazon, one could guess it's because the woman is taking on a more traditionally dominant role, much like an Amazonian warrior. It's definitely not a beginner-level pose, but if you're down to try it, it can be a very empowering move!

THE BASICS:

Advertisement - Continue Reading Below

This position is like the perfect mashup of missionary and cowgirl. Your partner lies down on their back, with their knees bent up in the air in a table-top position. You should get in between their legs and lower yourself on to them, using your knees on the bed and your hands on their knees for balance.

"To prevent injury, it's really important to go slowly, especially initially," says Antonia Hall, sex and relationship expert and author of The Ultimate Guide to a Multi-Orgasmic Life. "Really take your time and be sure you are steady and confident in your balance before thrusting because if you fall over or move too quickly, you could literally break their penis."

GETTING INTO IT:

The other reason to take this one slow is that you want to find ~just~ the right angle for yourself to fully enjoy it. According to Hall, a huge advantage of being on top is that you might only need a few small hip adjustments to really hit that sweet spot.

If you need more stability, plant your hands on the bed to ground yourself more. Your partner may also need to work on lying more flatly or spreading their legs so you have more space to adjust your body.

Advertisement - Continue Reading Below

If their legs just keep getting in the way, you can also try a reverse Amazon move by turning around like you would in reverse cowgirl.

Again, this position requires a little more flexibility and stamina, as well as patience, as it might take a few tries!

WHY IT'S SO GREAT:

Chances are, this isn't one of your go-to moves, which means it can freshen up your routine a little bit. It's also great because you need a partner who is content with being clumsy and laughing about it (since you probs won't get this right the first time) AND one who isn't intimidated by switching up gender roles.

"Too often we still think of hetero sex as male in charge, and on top," says Hall. "There's another power dynamic in this position because he's looking up at her, and she's the one navigating their pleasure."

Hall also adds that the Amazon position "shows her off while she's in her power, which can be incredibly sexy for them both."

WHEN YOU GET TIRED

If you find yourself getting exhausted, just switch to regular cowgirl by having your partner unbend their knees and lay their legs out straight. And if you're tired of being on top in general, switch to missionary or spooning and let your partner do the work for a bit.

EXTRAS

If you've got this position DOWN, add some flair with some clit stim. You can add any vibrator to the mix if you're up for it, but since this is a position dependent on balance, try a hands-free couples' vibrator such as the We-Vibe.

We-Vibe

We-Vibe 4 Plus – Couples Vibrator

We-Vibe $104.00

If you want to lean into role reversal with a touch of BDSM, you can cuff your partner's hands (just be extra communicative about boundaries/safe words re: the penis-breaking risks mentioned earlier!)

Amazon

PINGMINDIAN Rapturous Handcuffs

Amazon $15.45

And if you're truly into the "Amazon" part of this position, you can channel your inner Wonder Woman with a sexy Amazon or nondescript warrior costume (bought from Amazon, duh).

Have fun trying this one out and remember: TAKE IT SLOW.

OPI Is Bringing Back Its 9 Most Iconic Shades Ever—But Just for a Minute

Вторник, 09 Июля 2019 г. 05:30 + в цитатник

As someone who hoards nail polish like it's going out of style (it will never), I get really frustrated when my favorite color is discontinued or is limited-edition or for whatever reason inexplicably disappears off of the earth's stratosphere. You get my drift. So when a pretty little white box appeared on my desk the other week with OPI emblazoned in chrome, my blood pressure went up a tick. Then, my eyes landed on one of the most beautiful phrases I've ever seen in print (I kid… sort of): "Fan Favorites Requested by You—9 Most Asked for Shades, Returning for a Limited Time." You can only imagine my glee.

After all, there's nothing more satisfying than pinpointing the one shade or finish perfectly suited to your skin tone or personality type, making it even sadder when the polish gods to rip it away once bottle number one goes sticky. Right? Which is precisely why OPI is making nail polish hoarders' days everywhere. According to the brand, it's taken all of our die-hard social media requests, questions, and inquiries regarding certain MIA shades and compiled them into one stellar collection entitled Fan Favorites—not to be confused with some of the brand's cult classics. No, no. While gorgeous and addictive, this collection is a little bit off the beaten track, full of shades that aren't as well-known as Lincoln Park After Dark or I'm Not Really a Waitress but worthy of igniting weak-at-the-knees love affairs all the same.

Fashion Baptism or Electric Muppet Funeral? Jeremy Scott's Show Took Me From the Cradle to the Grave

Суббота, 06 Июля 2019 г. 05:39 + в цитатник

Jeremy Scott - September 2018 - New York Fashion Week

Getty ImagesPietro D'aprano

I am waiting outside a Tribeca warehouse on what I believe is New York City’s 115th consecutive Hottest Day Of The Year because, for once, the trains got me to my destination early. (Thanks, Cynthia Nixon!) I am about to go to my first fashion show and as the heroine in my own rom-com, I am taking this moment to revel in my last moments of virginity. What awaits me on the other side of this moment? Is it Timothée Chalamet eager to fall in love with me? I hope that it is Timothée Chalamet eager to fall in love with me.

Advertisement - Continue Reading Below

For this, my Fashion Baptism, I am wearing a rainbow jumpsuit, the kind where you have to get completely naked to pee. My preferred genre of clothing are those that are wholly inconvenient, so I’m really expecting to be dazzled by this show. I’m also wearing a pair of black clogs that I got at an Old Navy Outlet in Kentucky, but I’m hoping everyone here is too tall to see them.

Paris Hilton outside the show. Really!

Getty ImagesGilbert Carrasquillo

Getting into a fashion show during NYFW is at least five times more difficult than getting onto any airplane. I had to scan a QR code on my phone in order to print out a paper ticket. That paper ticket means I get placed in the central corral then siphoned off into increasingly smaller lines until I am lined up for the three elevators on the right. The left-most elevator is, naturally, for celebrities only, but I notice that it is exactly the same shape and size as our elevators, so I could tell people I went in the celebrity elevator and nobody would able to prove me wrong.

The unofficial dress code of this event seems to be Electric Muppet Funeral. I’m seeing a lot of thigh-high, neon fur boots and severe, pursed lips.

Bebe Rexha outside Jeremy Scott.

I notice that everyone here is dressed to be seen, a concept totally foreign to me as a person who attempts to slink through every day as invisibly as possible so that no stranger will comment on me. But, as I walk extra slowly around the venue, hoping a photographer will see and take a picture of me, I realize I am also wanting to be seen. For once I feel like a person using clothes to express herself, not to hide. I love it here. I wish that Jeremy Scott was a country I could immigrate to and start an industrious family of bright little neon club babies.

The venue is set up like high school bleachers. I’m in the third row and hopefully the popular kids will choose my section to makeout under. The famous and powerful in the front row have leather bags and a food product called “detox bars” at their seats. I make a mental note to harvest all the detox bars left on the floor like at the end of a baseball game.

If around 9:30 pm every dog in Tribeca started howling, it’s because the Jeremy Scott show started and they are the only living beings able to hear the music. Or maybe Scott intended to use the high-pitch, tonal shriek to punish the ears of every audience member who is younger than him. If so, it was very effective.

Jeremy Scott makes clothes that would make any dad stop dead on the sidewalk to point and laugh at anyone wearing it. I, however, am not a dad, so I really loved it. A number of the looks were high-heeled fishing suits that zipped all the way down to your taint.

They did not look comfortable, practical, or really even that chic, but in the harsh light of fashion week, I was convinced I would be the best looking fisherman on the dock, if only I could afford to be.

These models walk very fast and don’t leave much time for being woke.

Getty ImagesThomas Concordia

I love a motocross look so much I actually say “Wow!” out loud. I’m a little embarrassed to have expressed myself so publicly, but I look around at my neighbors and they all shake their heads in agreement, wow. It turns out that I wasted my wow too soon, because around the corner comes Offset in a neon pink Pikachu sweater. You, like me, might think you would recognize Offset anywhere, but when he walks down a runway in a neon pink Pikachu sweater, you’ll join in the chorus of “Was that Offset?”

Getty ImagesThomas Concordia

One of my favorite looks of the night was the one Jeremy Scott himself wore when he took his victory lap on the catwalk: a plain white tank with “Tell Your Senator No On Kavanaugh 212-902-7129.” Jeremy Scott’s clothes have something to say, even if it is very literally.

Getty ImagesFrazer Harrison

The moment he gets backstage, the audience jumps up and sprints out of the venue. I assume it’s to go call their senators.

Strikes and Picket Lines, Explained

Среда, 03 Июля 2019 г. 06:02 + в цитатник

The past month has seen multiple sports teams run afoul with one of the most important current labor actions in America: a massive nationwide hotel work stoppage happening right now, with more than 7,700 members of a hospitality workers’ union on strike.

On October 4, 2018, when the New York Yankees baseball team was spotted crossing a hotel workers' picket line in front of Boston’s Ritz-Carlton, they were lambasted online for their lack of solidarity with the workers there. A week later, the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team crossed that same picket line to stay at the hotel, whose striking workers are predominantly women, people of color, and immigrants. The Edmonton Oilers ice hockey team crossed the border from Canada as well as the picket line to do the same thing on October 9, and now, this past week, the Philadelphia Flyers ice hockey team committed the exact same offense.

Why is it such a big deal that they and their unionized cohorts crossed the Marriott picket line? Why does the concept “never cross a picket line” matter? What does it mean to “go out on strike” or to be a “scab”? Let’s break it down using these recent examples.

A strike is a planned work stoppage that occurs when the members of a union collectively agree to refuse to work until their demands are met. This usually happens after contract negotiations have broken down and a majority of members have voted to authorize the strike, which is what the Marriott workers have done.

All four teams mentioned above have incredibly strong unions backing them and enjoy the benefits of said unions’ lucrative collective bargaining agreements. Thanks to the players’ union, the Yankees and the 29 other teams covered are among the highest-paid athletes in the world, with players’ paychecks running well into the millions.

Meanwhile, the average hourly wage for a hotel housekeeper in America is $10.64. The striking Marriott workers have been on strike since October 3. In Boston alone, about 1,500 Marriott International employees have signed onto a nationwide strike for improved healthcare, higher wages, and stronger sexual harassment protections. They’re a part of the more than 7,700 unionized hotel workers in other major American markets for Marriott, including Detroit, Maui, San Jose, Seattle, Oakland, San Francisco, and San Diego. Unite Here Local 26, of which the Marriott workers are members, represents more than 270,000 members in the U.S. and Canada working in the hotel, gaming, food service, and airport industries, and called for the hotel strike following six months of contract talks.

The striking Marriott workers are putting their livelihoods on the line in hopes of forcing a change for the better, and union members across all industries owe it to them to support their efforts, no matter how different those industries may seem. For a union member to cross a picket line — as these sports teams did — is a sign that they either do not care about the strike or have actively decided to go against it. Either way, they’ve demonstrated that they have sided with the management over the workers who are on strike.

This is all happening during the Trump administration’s ongoing war on labor and following a recent wave of strike actions across the country — from teachers to fast food workers, which have apparently stirred up an increase in public interest in striking workers and unions in general. The striking Marriott workers are making labor history here, and their efforts follow a long line of examples of successful strikes that have changed this country. It seems they are making an impact, too: Marriott has been steadily losing money thanks to the strike, and the bosses don’t seem happy.

Historically, companies whose workers are on strike have hired outside workers — also known as “strikebreakers” — to take their places, and have sometimes resorted to violence to break strikes, as seen in West Virginia’s bloody mine wars that stretched from ‎1912 to 1921, or New York City’s Uprising of the 20,000 in 1909 where multiple women garment workers, including union leader Clara Lemlich Shavelson, were brutally beaten by company-hired strikebreakers.

If workers call a strike, and one of their coworkers crosses that line and goes to work anyway, they’ve harmed their union’s ability to negotiate with the employer, thereby weakening the group’s own collective power. Withholding labor is the final card in a union worker’s playbook, and isn’t a decision that’s taken lightly. No one likes going on strike — it’s not exactly a fun time, especially when considering the repercussions for workers, who are losing time and wages — and there’s a reason it’s regarded as a “nuclear option” of sorts for when negotiations have truly hit a wall. Unions are about upholding mutual support, respect, and solidarity to build power. There is power in a union, and as iconic National Farm Workers Association organizer César Chávez reminded us, “When a man or woman, young or old, takes a place on the picket line for even a day or two, he will never be the same again.”

With all this in mind, back to the Yankees, the Dodgers, the Oilers, and the Flyers who crossed that picket line and thereby demonstrated their disregard for their fellow workers’ struggles...the word “scab” now seems more than appropriate. (It was especially disappointing to see this from the Flyers, whose new mascot — a goggle-eyed orange chaos beast named Gritty — has captured the heart of the radical left and even has been officially declared antifa by the Philadelphia City Council. It’s safe to say that Fellow Worker Gritty would not approve).)

Don’t be like them. Instead, stand with striking workers, donate to strike funds when you can, and never cross a picket line!

BEING RELEVANT IS IRRELEVANT

Воскресенье, 30 Июня 2019 г. 05:45 + в цитатник

I feel that unknowingly, over the years I have stopped being myself quite so much, whether that be on my YT channels, this blog or on social media and I think thats for a few different reasons.

With social media content becoming so high-quality, highly produced and shot I begin to feel very confused about what I should put out there and I always have a constant back-and-fourth with myself about if I should keep my content more personal and 'real' (like it used to be and why people watched/followed me in the beginning) or if I should adapt to the edited, perfected pictures that seem to be so popular and that audiences seem to want to see? I wanted to feel and stay relevant.

Over the past few months I noticed that views and posts were just not doing as well as they previously had and I took this so personally! I wondered what I was doing wrong, are people just not liking my content anymore or are they growing disinterested? I panicked and wondered what I could do to better my content and to make sure that it's what people want to see but honestly, this can end up driving you bloody mad!

Yeah, it's great to see growth and good numbers. Its nice to feel like you 'fit in' within the industry but you don't have to kill yourself over it and take it too seriously. At the moment I'm trying to find a the right balance between posting what I want, in the style that I want to...but also putting the maximum time and effort into my content on every platform because it's extremely important to me and is my business!

For a while I felt like I should only post straight-face, professional-looking photos to instagram to be taken seriously by the 'fashion world'. I stopped posting me doing much makeup because apparently I wasn't talented enough for the 'beauty world' and I was reluctant to share much of my daughter Indie because of personal backlash and/or people thinking 'i'd changed' because I'm a mum but I'm honestly tired of caring about all of this at this point.

I'm going to be posting all of these things (& hopefully some more playful fashion pics because life is too short to be waiting for that imaginary email from Vogue to land in your inbox. lol) because i'm tired of limiting myself to feel like i'm doing the right thing!
