Station attempted to sell the Mount Rose Highway property two years later, but that sale was scrapped.

 

Still holding onto that land, the gaming company pitched a new casino site, including 21,000 square feet of gaming space, a sportsbook, and multiple dining and entertainment options. But that effort hit a snag amid a spat with Monarch Casino & Resort, the owner of the nearby Atlantis.

 

Station’s plan was ultimately approved by the Reno City Council. But with the land for sale in the COVID-19 climate, the operator’s future in Northern Nevada appears murky, reports the Gazette-Journal.

 

News of the property sales in Reno caps a hectic period for Red Rock in its home state. A majority of the justices rejected the arguments from Secretary of State Bob Evnen, who opposed the vote on whether to allow expanded gambling at Nebraska’s commercial racetracks.

 

Gaming opponents claimed the state could see expanded tribal gaming if the proposal were approved. Evnen further argued that the language used in the initiatives was unclear and was not in the correct form.

 

Ultimately, the justices reversed the Secretary of State’s decision.

Drawn-Out Process

No Stopping SPAC Fever

After taking the investment community by storm last year, blank-check companies are extending that momentum in 2021. The gaming industry remains hospitable territory for confirmed deals and SPAC speculation.

 

To this point in the new year, four SPAC mergers closed across various industries, according to SPAC Track data. As of Jan. 9, there were 27 blank-check IPOs that raised a combined $6.6 billion. That offering number is likely approaching 40 or more today.

 

In addition to its Nevada, Iowa, and Missouri permits, Affinity has a license to operate in Florida, and previously held licenses in eight states, including Colorado, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Mississippi, Indiana, Louisiana, and Arizona.

 

“Potential target companies who are licensed will likely view our existing and previous licensure favorably when seeking to transact, as it likely reduces transaction execution risk,” according to the S-1.
