The ability to remap buttons on the Xbox Series X and Series S is an essential feature for gamers who want to personalize their gaming experience.
The latest phones can run demanding, graphically impressive titles, so ports of popular PC and console games are increasingly common, but they’re not always fun to play with touchscreen controls. But, if you’re playing a multiplayer game with multiple people on the same PC, every player can’t have their own button settings unless you’re using Steam or PlayStation 4 controllers. On the next screen, choose “Button mapping.” This opens the Xbox Accessories app right to its button remapping feature. For example, to replace F1 with F12 as the Help command, choose F1 as the mapped-to key. Either click the dropdown menu and select the mapped-to key from the list, or click the Type button and press the key. Quick Resume feature based on the Xbox Velocity Architecture in Xbox Series X

It’s worth cycling through all the options available to see what custom actions are available as there's a surprisingly wide array. Of course, if you’re happy with using the Share button for its original purpose, you can leave it as is. The ability to remap the Xbox Series X/S controller Share button is only available to Xbox Alpha Insiders right now, but it’ll soon roll out to every Xbox user in the future.

Beyond button swaps, Xbox gives you some other cool tweaks you can make to customize your gaming experience even further.

The Razer Wolverine Ultimate, with its many additional buttons, is ideal for advanced gamers. The game can be played on an Xbox One or PC and can be selected based on your preferences. Although the Xbox controller provides the most optimal button layouts for gamers, it's not the perfect configuration for every game. Sometimes, you may need a different mapping depending on the game, personal or required preferences, which is why it's essential to a quick and easy way to remap buttons on the controller. There are a few restrictions imposed on standard controller remapping. For example, you can only swap button pairs (if you map LB to X, then X is automatically mapped to LB), thus maintaining that all buttons are always mapped to something.

The update makes it so that players can move internal data to a mico SD card without having to redownload anything. Of course, there is some data that cannot get transferred, so while this is a major improvement in general, it doesn't apply to everything. You’ll see different available layouts depending on which types of controller you’re using.

It’s tempting to call out its similarities to the Xbox Elite Series 2, of which there are plenty, but it’s more helpful to speak about how it differs. For one, its stick modules can be replaced entirely — a move that makes the DualSense Edge a little more user-repairable.

Once you back out of the screen by hitting B Button (or whatever button you mapped it to) it automatically saves the profile. You can create multiple profiles on your Xbox, and of course at any time you can go back to the default profile as well. Beyond PC compatibility, the Xbox controller boasts native compatibility on Steam Deck, plus recent versions of Android and iOS. So, whether you have a phone or tablet, this controller can easily connect via Bluetooth.
