Going camping often results in fun times and memories. It can lead to self-discovery, and it also lets you be closer to nature. You can hike and learn to create a campfire. There are endless numbers of ways in which one can enjoy a camping trip. In this article, however, we are just going to go over some basic ways in which one can get the maximum out of one's camping experience.
Water is critical for your survival when hiking in the backcountry. Carry water purification tablets with you or some sort of water filter that is capable of filtering out bacteria. There are many different kinds available at your local sporting goods store. Whenever you are looking for a water source, make sure the water is flowing; stagnant water can kill you if not treated properly.
When you are heading out for that long awaited camping trip, don't forget to take along your cell phone. You may be tempted to leave all the texting and calls behind, but your cell phone can be one of your most important safety lifelines in the event of an emergency. Make sure it is fully charged and keep it protected from the elements in a plastic bag or waterproof case.
If your dog goes with you, always keep up with him. There are people who do not like dogs, so you will want to keep them in control. You should keep that in mind while you are on your camping trip. Also, dogs have the potential to wreck your campsite, or that of someone else, if they are allowed to run loose.
If you are camping and the weather is starting to rise significantly, tale the coolers that you have with you and put them somewhere in the shade. It will also help to keep them covered with some type of tarp. This will keep the temperature inside the cooler from rising too much.
You need to maintain your cleanliness while camping. Good hygiene is difficult when you are camping sometimes, but you can keep yourself clean. A bottle of hand sanitizer is excellent to have so you can clean hands before eating. You can also use rubbing alcohol on areas of your body that are not sensitive. A mild biodegradable soap and a sponge can be used to take mini-baths when water resources are low.
Bring supplies for 'Smores. 'Smores are an integral part of any camping trip. Simply pack graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. Toast the marshmallows, then make it the filling to a graham cracker/chocolate sandwich. When you have a 'Smore, you will want 'some more'--bring enough for everyone to have at least two of them!
Take along some things to entertain yourself and your family. Card games, fishing poles, scavenger hunt lists and other supplies can make hanging out in the woods more fun. If you're bringing along kids, it doesn't hurt to go overboard when thinking of what to bring for fun.
Look up grocery stores near your campsite. Make sure you know how to get to them. Particularly, if your trip is spanning more than three or four days, the food you bring with you probably isn't going to last the length of your trip. Not only, that, but your family is going to get tired of eating the same things day after day. Variety is the key.
Pack extra flashlights and plenty of batteries for your camping trip. You may need to be able to see in front of you after sunset at some points during your trip. Having the ability to light up an area well can prevent injuries and potentially dangerous encounters with wildlife. If you're taking kids along with you, give each one of them a flashlight.
