Don't feel bad about not being able to get gifts for people...it's part of being a broke student. It's a life I know all too well as a second year university student living on the opposite side of the country from my parents. Hell, I haven't seen them in close to two years due to airfare costing a small fortune, but I know that eventually I'll be able to see them again.

It's difficult not really knowing anybody local but you are lucky that you have people that are close enough to visit on occasion so keep your chin up.

I live off campus because I can't have my son in the dorms and I'm thankful to student loans so I can do it. I can't imagine what it would be like to have to be on campus pretty much 24/7...but hopefully if you can get a job maybe next semester you can look at getting a small place off campus that you can call your own. No roommates that won't open the windows.
