Binyamin Netanyahu: Isis and Hamas branches of the same poisonous tree

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu compared his country’s recent bombing campaign in Gaza to the US-led strikes against militants in Iraq and Syria on Monday, saying Hamas and the Islamic State (Isis) group share the same goal of world domination.

In a speech to the United Nations general assembly, Netanyahu railed against countries who condemned Israel for its war with Hamas while praising President Barack Obama for attacking Islamic State militants and other extremists.

The Israeli prime minister said those world leaders “evidently don’t understand that Isis and Hamas are branches of the same poisonous tree.”

Netanyahu also says Iran’s concern about the spread of terrorism was “one of history’s greatest displays of doubletalk.”

A nuclear-armed Iran would pose a far greater threat to the world than Isis, he said. “Make no mistake, Isis must be defeated. But to defeat Isis and leave Iran as a threshold nuclear power is to win the battle and lose the war.”

“Iran’s nuclear military capabilities must be fully dismantled,” he said, adding that the point of Tehran’s recent “charm offensive” for the West was get international sanctions lifted “and remove the obstacles to Iran’s path to the bomb.”

Earlier, Israel’s foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman said Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas had no intention of making peace with Israel, calling his speech to world leaders last week “a message of hatred and incitement.”

Lieberman also questioned Abbas’ legitimacy to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people, saying he does not control the Gaza Strip, where Hamas remains in charge of security and elections have been postponed for more than four years.

Abbas accused Israel in his speech on Friday of carrying out “war crimes” and conducting a “war of genocide” in Gaza, but stopped short of saying he would pursue war crimes charges against Israel. He said he would ask the UN security council to dictate the ground rules for any talks with Israel, including setting a deadline for an Israeli withdrawal from Palestinian lands.

Fair election in Ukraine

Ukraine’s foreign business leaders did not hold back when they got their chance to question President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on Oct. 2.

Tomas Fiala, head of the major investment house Dragon Capital, was first to the microphone, where he lashed out about how, despite the pronouncements of honest parliamentary elections, places on party lists were allegedly being sold for $3-4 million.

“And I refer to all party lists, including yours and yours,” Fiala stressed, pointing at the president and prime minister.

Fiala then asked how asset raids were still happening months after the EuroMaidan Revolution, citing a $200 million commercial property dispute between an Estonian investor and local property developer who is running for parliament.

“And that person is number 58 on your party list, Mr. President,” Fiala said. “How do you respond?

Poroshenko said that he was not aware of the problem and would investigate, going as far as to possibly exclude the specific candidate. The president then emphasized how the meeting was all about “trust” and that government and business were all on one team.

Number 58 on the list of Bloc of Poroshenko is Kyiv city council member Oleksandr Hranovsky of Vitali Klitschko’s Ukraine Democratic Alliance for Reforms and a shareholder of Skymall, a shopping center in Kyiv that is in the center of corporate conflict Hranovsky could not be reached for comment. Dragon Capital is a minority investor in Skymall through its property development fund.

Every seat in the main ballroom of the Fairmont Grand Hotel in Kyiv was filled as Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk fielded questions about their plan to transform Ukraine into a modern European country in 2020.

Poroshenko said Yatsenyuk’s presence was to show “that the president and the government remain united in their goals.” The president emphasized that “the core vision of the Ukrainian idea is European Union integration and Ukraine’s rightful place in the world.”

This includes a list of 62 initiatives, the most essential of which cover combating corruption, making the judiciary independent, deregulating the economy and improving national defense.

In addition to Russia’s war against Ukraine and energy security, Yatsenyuk stated graft was a top challenge. He noted that parliament will hold an extraordinary session on Oct. 7 to consider a bill to create an independent corruption-fighting agency that also is a requirement of the International Monetary Fund, the country’s major source of financial support.

When asked several times about why the bureaucracy was still bloated and that little in the way of red tape had been cut, including combating corruption, Yatsenyuk became defensive and began reciting his accomplishments.

“We have cut the number of bureaucrats by 10 percent,” he said, “and reduced the number of required licenses. We are not happy with this, but we are advancing.” He also threw out the “Rome wasn’t built in a day” excuse.

The other major concern of business was the rise in excise, especially sin taxes on alcohol and tobacco.

However, of equal concern was the apparent contradiction of the president’s refrain that the government welcomes all suggestions and cooperation with the business community and actual experience, where ministries have been either rejecting or ignoring suggestions.

Again, the duo reiterated the openness of their government and said that they would look into the matter.

Continuing the bureaucracy theme, Edilberto Sagura of the U.S. equity fund SigmaBleyzer and former World Bank country director warned that “if deep and comprehensive administrative reforms of the bureaucracy are not made, all reforms will come to naught, since if you cut 100 licenses (as Yatsenyuk said) 200 new ones will appear overnight.”

He asked what the government was doing about this. Neither the president nor the prime minister gave a concrete answer, although Poroshenko brusquely stated that other essential reforms could not wait until administrative reforms were completed.

On the whole, the speakers from the business community were asking how they can accelerate the reform process and promote deregulation of the economy.

Lawyer Bate C. Toms, who heads the British-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce, said that several hundred millions of dollars was available without donor organization contributions to begin a political risk program to encourage the return of investment to Ukraine. He said that $1 billion worth of investments was on hold because of the war.

Railways Chief Yakunin Sees U.S. Seeking to Subvert Russia; No Impact on Ukraine Policy

MOSCOW— Vladimir Yakunin, a longtime friend of President Vladimir Putin, is still indignant that he was slapped with U.S. sanctions in March. But asked whether they have changed the minds of Kremlin insiders like himself regarding Russian policy in Ukraine, his answer is a resounding no.

Thats wishful thinking, he scoffed in a recent interview.

Mr. Yakunin, president of state-owned Russian Railways, the countrys largest employer, says the Ukraine crisis has vindicated his long-held stance that the U.S. and Russia are ineluctable rivals, and that U.S. efforts to sabotage Russia have continued since the end of the Cold War, using weapons as varied as Hollywood movies and monetarist economics.

Critics who dismissed a study he co-wrote a year ago as a work of conspiracy theory now recognize its a very realistic assessment of the situation, he says.

The hardening attitudes suggest repairing the worst breach in East-West relations since the Cold War could be difficult, if not impossible, as long as Russias current leadership remains in power.

Within the elite, this ideological matrix has really taken over, says Olga Kryshtanovskaya, a sociologist who has studied the Russian ruling class since the 1990s. They believe there is no way to mobilize the nation around the leader without an enemy.

The Kremlin portrays Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko as an American stooge, installed after a U.S.-fomented revolution overthrew his pro-Russia predecessor and bent on bringing his country into the U.S. orbit—presenting an existential threat to Russias security.

Such views, conveyed nightly by anti-Western reports on state television, have spread broadly in Russian society. Fully 74% of Russians in a poll this summer said they viewed the U.S. unfavorably, up from 44% in January and the highest since the poll was first conducted in 1990.

While most of the hard-liners in Mr. Putins inner circle are tight-lipped about their views of the world, Mr. Yakunin is a prolific author and speaker and part-time professor at Moscow State University.

Not only is the U.S. determined to prevent Russias emergence as a global power, he says, but at the same time it aims to sabotage Europes economy by forcing the European Union to follow suit in imposing sanctions on Russia, one of its major trade partner.

The Anglo-Saxons have always been very practical people, says Mr. Yakunin, who served as a Soviet diplomat in New York in the 1980s. They respect strength.

The monograph, which Mr. Yakunin wrote in his capacity as a professor, runs for more than 400 pages, cataloging what it portrays as decades of efforts by Russias geopolitical enemy to undermine it. Issues from trade liberalization to anticorruption efforts and what it calls the simulacrum of global terrorism are used to undermine Russia, which the study calls the main obstacle on the path of realizing the Western project of global domination.

In the end, the authors conclude that they couldnt prove the existence of the secret plan to subvert Russia because it is secret.

For Mr. Yakunin and his colleagues, the idea professed by some in the U.S. of a cooperative relationship with Russia is absurd. If Ukraine hadnt happened, something else certainly would have, he says.

Mr. Yakunin, 66 years old, has known Mr. Putin since the early 1990s, when they were both part of a small summer-cottage cooperative outside St. Petersburg called Ozero. Most of its members have since taken up powerful jobs in business and politics—and been targeted by Western sanctions.

He calls the current demonization of Mr. Putin in the West inaccurate and a crude propaganda trick.

Asked whether Mr. Putin shares his views about the U.S., Mr. Yakunin is coy, saying that he will speak only for himself, although that reflects other people my age and in posts more senior than mine.

He has denied persistent allegations of corruption, which he says are the work of unnamed enemies trying to sabotage him.

Despite his strong pro-Russia views, he told the official TASS news agency Monday that his children now live in Europe.

He says the U.S. sanctions—banning him from obtaining a visa and freezing any assets he might hold in the U.S.—have created certain complexities for him, and admits the broader measures are hurting an economy that was already slowing down.

Of course, the atmosphere that is arisen has had a big effect on the business climate, with potential foreign partners turning away from Russia, he admits.

The use of financial sanctions against Russia has also confirmed his long-held view of the dangerous influence of what he calls the global financial oligarchy over the world economy. He doesnt spell out just who falls into that category other than to say they arent all Americans, however.

But he says it is up to the West—Europe, in particular—to see the error of its ways and return to traditional values that will inevitably bring it closer to Russia.

I have this feeling of bitterness, frankly, because, while I didnt believe the sweet promises of the West thanks to my professional preparation, I didnt think the West would go this far, he said.

Любопытная история произошла не так давно у нас здесь, в Орегоне. Я ее пропустил.

Вот этот песик, пропал у хозяина где-то в Пенсильвании. Через пять месяцев его нашли, бегающим в Туаллатине, (это тоже, здесь). Расстояние между тем местом, где он потерялся и тем местом, где его нашли,  почти 2 700 миль.

Gidgets journey west is an extraordinary one, even by human standards.

And its not nearly over.

The 7-year-old Jack Russell Terrier went missing April 22 near her owners home in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. Five months later, a former volunteer at Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter spotted her trotting along a road in Tualatin — nearly 2,700 miles from where she began.

Gidgets backstory was realized when shelter technicians identified her through a microchip embedded in her skin.

Needless to say, her owner was shocked when she got the call.

She was very surprised and excited, said Shelia Farrin, the shelter technician who identified Gidget. She was like I have no idea how she got all the way out there.'

Pet microchips like Gidgets cant track a dogs movements. And although its technically possible for a dog — even a terrier as small as this one — to walk across the country, caretakers at the shelter dont think Gidget did.

The black and tan-spotted terrier is a healthy 14.4 pounds, only five less than when she left home. She shows no signs of trauma and is well-behaved with shelter workers. She greets strangers with a wet tongue and a wagging tail.

Which suggests Gidget hitched a ride with someone.

Was it a long-haul trucker? Was it someone heading out West to start a new life? Did she make five stops? said Jen Keene, the shelters education coordinator.

Nobody knows.

Now, Gidget is facing another challenge: getting home.

Я понимаю, что обвинили меня в общем, в том, что я, находясь здесь, не могу отличить, где, что и как.. Я не пытаюсь сейчас кидаться определениями добро, зло, ложь, правда и т.д. Смысла в этом не вижу. У каждого человека есть свое видение ситуации. И оно может меняться со временем. Честно говоря, я думал, что вот это все меня здесь не достанет. Нет, я не пытался отсидеться. Я искренне пытался разобраться в происходящем.

Москва. 1 октября. INTERFAX.RU  Власти самопровозглашенной Донецкой народной республики уточнили, что в захоронении на окраине Макеевки были обнаружены тела лишь девяти человек, а еще 400, о которых они ранее сообщили, поступили в морги из разных областей региона.

Нас неправильно поняли, и информация в итоге исказилась. Мы вели речь о том, что 400  это общее число неопознанных тел, остающихся в донецких моргах. 90% из них  мирные жители, которые погибли в разное время. Многие тела обезображены и трудно поддаются опознанию. Поэтому мы обратились к российским специалистам с просьбой о проведении ДНК-экспертиз,  заявил в среду Интерфаксу первый вице-премьер ДНР Андрей Пургин.

Что же касается захоронения на окраине Макеевки, то там было обнаружено только девять тел, подчеркнул он. Пургин считает, что этих людей убили украинские военные формирования.

Батальон нацгвардии, уходя из населенного пункта, уничтожил градообразующее предприятие  шахту, из танков стрелял по стволу шахты. Затем возле нее были расстреляны девять человек, пятеро из которых  ополченцы, а еще четверо, по всей видимости,  мирные жители. Их руки были связаны скотчем, с ними расправились очень жестоко, расстреляв по некоторым из них чуть ли не целую обойму,  сказал вице-премьер ДНР.

В понедельник Пургин сообщил, что в моргах Донецка и близлежащих городов, находящихся под контролем ДНР, находится порядка 400 тел. По его словам, 350 из них принадлежат мирным жителям, однако многих из-за состояния тел опознать невозможно. По его словам, многие тела были обнаружены в стихийных захоронениях в районах, которые сейчас находятся под контролем ополчения, но раньше контролировались украинскими силовиками.

Граудиньш рассказывает: Возле шахты «Коммунарская №22», где была раскопана могила, непосредственно трупов мы уже не видели. Их не оставляют для разного рода общественных осмотров. Но все трупы, которые там были найдены  задокументированы. Это все заснято на видео и фото. В том числе до нас эти трупы осмотрели другие иностранные наблюдатели. Поэтому я не ставлю под сомнения озвученную версию и не рассматриваю версию фальсификации.

Плюс, самый важный факт, что к нам на встречу пришла мать одного убитого человека, который был найден в этой могиле. Реальный живой человек, который рассказал про своего сына. Поэтому никаких сомнений быть не может, что именно так оно и есть.

В поселке Нижняя Крынка ситуация другая. У меня есть фотографии могилы, где был труп, и вокруг него все поле перекопано. То есть можно сделать вывод, что на этом месте производили захоронения. Но это не самое главное. Самое главное, что на этом месте стоит невыносимый трупный запах. То есть я могу со всей ответственностью сказать, что там будут продолжаться раскопки, которые будут проводить в рамках следственных действий. Там до сих пор находятся трупы, которые похоронены неглубоко. По моим предположениям они захоронены на глубине 30-40 см.Я общался с руководством Донецкой республики, в том числе с главным прокурором, председателем верховного суда, министрами. Я реально понимаю, какая там ситуация, и как на самом деле тяжело производить эти работы. Во-первых, у нового правительства нет нормального административного ресурса. Во-вторых, эти места были не так давно освобождены. И на самом деле, я уверен, что это не единственные места, где есть такие захоронения. И со временем будут появляться новые места, о которых будет сообщать местное население. Чтобы все это охватить, нужно соблюсти определенную процедуру. Например, правительству ДНР сейчас очень трудно провести экспертизу ДНК.

Сейчас в донецких моргах находится около 400 неопознанных трупов разной стадии разложения. Это и люди, которые были убиты авиаударами, и погибшие от минометных ударов, и так далее. Что примечательно, родственники тех погибших, личности которых удалось установить, либо пропали без вести, либо сами убиты, либо уехали в Россию.

Единого реестра людей по Донецкой области сейчас у руководства ДНР, как такового, нет. Потому что все эти реестры, не только по людям, но и по имуществу, находятся в Киеве на серверах. И Киевская власть отключила Донецкую народную республику от всех серверов. Это создает большие проблемы административно-технического характера даже в работе по опознанию тел.

- У вашей группы не остается даже малейших сомнений, что массовые захоронения людей – это результат пребывания на данной территории киевских батальонов?

 Однозначно могу сказать – да! Вернусь немного назад. К нам на встречу приходила мать одного убитого. Это реальная женщина, у которой убили сына. Убили очень жестоко. И убили его представители украинской власти. А именно люди из, так называемых, карательных батальонов.

Более того, в Нижней Крынке мы встречались с более чем десятью местными жителями. Все как один повторяют одно и то же. И рассказ все время сводится примерно к следующему: вначале в Нижней Крынке стояли подразделения регулярных украинский войск, с которыми не было больших проблем. Между жителями и солдатами не было большой любви. Военные были, можно сказать, нейтральными. А как только эти подразделения заменили карательными батальонами, сразу стали пропадать люди. Жители, с которыми мы разговаривали, привели пример из жизни: «муж с женой едут на автомобиле. Его останавливают, людей расстреливают, трупы выбрасывают в реку, а машину забирают себе».

Местные жители, с которыми мы общались, говорят, что если в живых остался – это уже хорошо. Но есть другие сопутствующие преступления, о которых вообще до недавнего времени никто не говорил.

- Какие это преступления?

 Множества преступлений, которые совершают эти карательные батальоны. В первую очередь – это многократные групповые изнасилования несовершеннолетних девочек. Это реальная ситуация. Следующее. Полностью разграбленные и сожженные дома. На территории, где есть власть ДНР, «Укрпочта» не работает, а там, где были эти батальоны, «Укрпочта» еще работала. Люди рассказывали, что на почту выстраивалась очередь из членов этих батальонов, которые отправляли к себе домой посылки с наворованными вещами.

Есть масса свидетельств и подтверждений тому, что там происходит именно то, о чем я вам рассказываю. И люди в отчаянии.

Очень много домов на этой территории просто сожжены при отступлении этих про-киевских батальонов. То есть, дом сгорел не в результате боевых действий, а эти дома просто специально сжигают при отступлении. Имеет место целый ряд преступлений против личности и преступления имущественного характера.

Конечно, нас волную все вопросы, но сейчас все-таки больше внимания уделяют казням пленных ополченцев и расправам над мирным гражданским населением. Когда происходят убийства, то остальные вопросы как бы отходят на второй план. А я считаю, что говорить нужно обо всем. Потому что, если семья потеряла кого-то из родственников, дом сожжен, имущество украдено, то, как им быть дальше.

- Какой шанс, что выводы вашей комиссии будут правильно услышаны в Европе и мире?

 Конечно, хочется, чтобы было по справедливости. Но давайте реально смотреть на вещи. Все прекрасно понимают, что главенствующую роль в ООН играет США. ОБСЕ, может быть, гораздо справедливее рассмотрит все аспекты их преступлений. Но всем нужно понять, что это не будет просто, и это не произойдет быстро.

- Сколько потребуется времени, чтобы преступления были раскрыты?

 Возьмем пример Косовской республики. Прошло много лет с момента образования этой республики, и до сих пор многие преступления, которые задокументированы, не до конца рассмотрены. Это реальность. Только в этом году американские правозащитные организации начали обращать внимание на то, что под руководством первого премьер-министра Косова совершались преступления. Только сейчас стали об этом говорить, как будто раньше никто об этом не знал.

Поэтому и по поводу преступлений в Донбассе не будет быстрых, совершенно справедливых решений. Это я точно могу сказать. Не только в США, но и в Европе существует множество разного рода политических сил, которые, естественно, крайне негативно смотрят на Новороссию, как таковую, и естественно, они будут защищать киевский режим. Но это не означает, что преступления, которые происходят в Донбассе не надо документировать, и это не означает, что о них не надо говорить. И говорить нужно об этом до того момента, пока люди, совершившие эти военные преступления и геноцид, не будут задержаны и не предстанут перед международным трибуналом.

For all the celebrations in Kiev over ratifying the trade deal with Europe, it is the Russians who got most of what they wanted

HISTORIANS will struggle to put dates on Russia’s murky war against Ukraine. It had no official start and no formal end. Russia never admitted that it was in the conflict, which it fanned and fought both directly and through proxies, so has not celebrated victory as it did after the annexation of Crimea. Ukraine never formally declared itself under attack, so it cannot formally admit its defeat.

But that does not make defeat any less real. After six months of fighting, Ukraine has lost at least 3,000 men and control over a swathe of territory in the east, as well as being forced by Russia to delay the full implementation of its association agreement with the European Union.

Ukraine’s setback was masked by the fanfare of the simultaneous ratification of the agreement by the Ukrainian Rada and the European Parliament on September 16th (see Charlemagne). Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s president, called it an historic moment and led a chorus of MPs in the national anthem: “Ukraine is not dead yet”. After all, it was the decision by the former president, Viktor Yanukovych, to reject an earlier version of the deal a year ago that sparked the Maidan revolution.

Yet the agreement will not fully come into force at least until the end of 2015. The pause is meant to give Ukraine, Russia and the EU time to find a compromise. (During it, Ukraine will be able to export to Europe duty-free while European goods will still be taxed on their way into Ukraine.) This is precisely what Russia asked for before the start of the Ukrainian crisis, only to be told to keep out. Many Ukraine-watchers are worried that the association agreement could yet be further hollowed out.

That is why European officials were in despair when news of the delay emerged from the three-way talks between Ukraine, Russia and European Union. “It is Munich 1938,” one said. Yet Ukraine did not have much choice. Russia threatened the renewal of military action and a complete economic blockade if Ukraine did not postpone implementation. To make itself clear, Moscow is to increase its military presence in Crimea and introduce tariffs for Ukrainian exports to Russia that will be deferred so long as Ukraine does not implement the agreement with Europe. It is not just Ukraine’s free trade with Europe that is at stake, but its ability to reform and to make its own decisions about the future.

Ukrainian politicians have pledged to reform their economy despite the deferral of the EU agreement, but if the past 23 years are anything to go by the chances of their doing it are slim. Arseniy Yatseniuk, the prime minister, blames the war for lack of reform in the past few months, but it is unclear why the government could not have begun to remove wasteful energy subsidies, deregulate the economy or curb corruption. Even during the war, some in Ukraine’s defence ministry used intermediaries to charge money for hardware and guns being supplied to volunteers on their own side, according to Zerkalo Nedeli, a weekly. Private firms whose employees enlisted for military duty bought flak jackets from Ukrainian suppliers that turned out to be fakes.

On the same day the Rada ratified the association agreement, it passed a law granting special status to the part of the Donbas controlled by Russian-backed separatists, including the cities of Donetsk and Luhansk. The law gives these territories broad autonomy for three years, guarantees Russian-language rights and self-governance, and allows them to establish deeper ties with Russia—although it does not give the region a say in foreign or defence policy. Another law offers an amnesty to rebel fighters. Mr Poroshenko’s aides say this was the only way to save lives, but it poses uncomfortable questions. “What did our boys die for? Why did we not hold peace talks back in May?” asked Sergei Taruta, the Kiev-appointed governor of the Donetsk region.

Unlike the association agreement, the vote on special status was held in secret, with journalists barred and voting rolls concealed to avoid accusations of treachery. Even Mr Poroshenko’s supporters recoiled. As Mustafa Nayem, a journalist- turned-candidate from Mr Poroshenko’s bloc, says: “To pass such important laws without an open discussion, without any explanation to society, is barbaric.” Special status may establish a frozen conflict with no clear borders, a perfect environment for contraband and banditry.

Ukraine clearly cannot win a fight against Russia. But Mr Putin also faces limits. The Russian public does not support full-scale war with Ukraine. The killing of its own soldiers, who were not even meant to be involved, has been uncomfortable for the Kremlin. And for all Moscow’s bravado, Western sanctions have pushed Russia’s economy closer to recession. Alexei Kudrin, Russia’s former finance minister, talks of a 5% contraction in GDP if more sanctions are imposed. Russia has already tapped its rainy-day fund. The strain is being seen in infighting among Mr Putin’s entourage (see article).

Both Mr Putin and Mr Poroshenko have reasons to want a truce: Mr Putin to avoid more sanctions and questions from relatives of dead soldiers, and Mr Poroshenko ahead of a parliamentary election on October 26th. But this does not mean the end of Ukraine’s troubles and Russia’s adventurism. The Kremlin’s goal is not just to control two cities in eastern Ukraine, but to stop all of Ukraine from moving westward. Further violence in the east is possible as rebels try to capture more territory.

The biggest danger, however, is that the fragile truce will be followed by the usual political wrangling in Kiev and renewed Ukraine fatigue in the West. The only way Ukraine can realise its European aspirations is over many years, by building an economically and politically coherent state. That will take patience, money and time from the West and perseverance from Ukraine. But not to try would mean the ultimate defeat and betrayal of those who died for Ukraine’s sovereignty.

A Christian baker who faced virulent protest and eventually lost her shop after refusing to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple took to her Facebook page Monday to reveal what she says are the “two huge lies” contemporary culture has embraced.

“Our culture has accepted 2 huge lies. The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear or hate them,” wrote Melissa Klein, owner of the embattled Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery. “Second is that to love someone means that you must agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense.”

She concluded, “You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.”

Klein and her husband, Aaron, have been at the forefront of the debate surrounding whether Christian business owners who provide wedding services should be forced to serve gay and lesbian clients.

Problems for the Klein family began in January 2013 when they declined to make a wedding cake for Rachel Cryer and Laurel Bowman, a lesbian couple who promptly responded by filing a civil rights complaint against Sweet Cakes by Melissa.

Officials in Oregon subsequently ruled that the bakery violated Cryer’s and Bowman’s civil rights.

The Bureau of Labor and Industries released a statement on the matter, noting that the couple had filed an official complaint with the government under the Oregon Equality Act of 2007 — a law that protects gays and lesbians using public venues.

“Under Oregon law, Oregonians may not be denied service based on sexual orientation or gender identity,” read the release. “The law provides an exemption for religious organizations and schools, but does not allow private business owners to discriminate based on sexual orientation, just as they cannot legally deny service based on race, sex, age, disability or religion.”

In addition to potentially facing monumental fines, Melissa and Aaron Klein have also weathered some serious personal and businesses challenges as a result of their stance against gay marriage.

The Kleins appeared Friday on a panel at the Values Voter Summit, a conservative religious and political gathering, where they defended their right to decline service based on their religious objections and said that they fully operated within the bounds of the U.S. Constitution.

“To be told they’re going to force me to convey a message other than what I want to convey — it flies in the face of the Constitution,” said Aaron Klein, according to the Oregonian. ”It’s a violation of my conscience. It’s a violation of my religious freedom. It’s horrible to see your own government doing this to you.”

Melissa Klein broke out into tears during the panel discussion while commenting on the situation:

As TheBlaze reported in September 2013, the Kleins were forced to close their Sweet Cakes by Melissa bakery following intense scrutiny and furor among gay rights advocates that inevitably impacted business; they’re now operating out of their family home.

Additionally, the Kleins have reportedly being harassed by those opposed to their stance on the cake matter, fielding virulent emails and phone calls.

And Melissa Klein previously told TheBlaze that someone broke into the Sweet Cakes truck last September — a vehicle the family uses to advance its business.

The truck was parked in the Kleins’ driveway, which was particularly nerve-wrecking for the family, as their home is in a highly secluded area — one that is nowhere near where their former shop.

“Somebody came up into our driveway and rummaged through our truck and took stuff out,” she told TheBlaze. “The really strange thing is, they didn’t steal anything, they just made a mess. It kind of was a little creepy.”

The legal battle over the cake refusal continues, as it will soon come before an administrative law judge.

Дело в суде&

Этим летом, когда я куда-либо ездил, несколько раз я встречал в трамваях или на остановках, людей со списками, собирающих подписи. Естественно, я интересовался, что это такое и под чем подписываются?

Был немало удивлен. Люди эти не собирали подписи. Они регистрировали избирателей. Оказывается, очень много людей полностью игнорируют свои гражданские права.

Не хотят они выбирать, и  все тут.

А удивлен я был по одной простой причине. Первое, что я сделал, получив Гражданство,  зарегистрировался как избиратель.

А если возвращаться к предстоящим вскоре выборам, то& было бы очень неплохо, если бы демократы потеряли еще больше мест в Сенате.

Буду голосовать за Монику.

Это я про Монику Веби (Monica Wehby) которая баллотируется в Сенат от нашего Штата от Республиканцев.

Это она. Детский нейрохирург. Как я понимаю, неплохой нейрохирург.

Получится ли из нее политик?

Большой вопрос, конечно. Если честно, я совсем немного следил за предстоящими выборами. От штата Орегон положено два сенатора. (Такое во всех штатах). Четыре года назад от нашего штата в Сенате были один демократ и один республиканец. При том, что от Сенатора республиканца проку было больше, прошлые выборы он проиграл. Такое бывает. Орегон,  очень демократический штат. Сейчас Моника идет от республиканской партии и я уже вижу, как ее давят.

This may not be comparable to being discovered in the back room of a strip club, and may not be a disqualification from the Senate – it certainly wouldnt disqualify her from the NFL – but its an awkward thing to pop up.

It may not have helped that Wehbys immediate reaction was to blame the Merkley campaign staff, although there was no evidence that they had called the cops.

Then observers noted a curious familiarity in policy language on Wehbys campaign web site. Her plans on health care in particular, repeatedly cited as reflecting her special insights into the issue as a pediatric neurosurgeon, turned out to be lifted intact from the medical authority Karl Rove. Once again, the campaigns response may not have been ideal, with a campaign spokesman sniffing, Dr. Wehby is too busy performing brain surgery on sick children to respond, sorry.

Actually, she wasnt.

It took a while for the Wehby campaign to reach the proper position in such cases, blaming a departed campaign staff member – although, uncooperatively, the former staffer has been insisting it wasnt his fault.

The Senate campaign has provided lots of things to discuss in campaign debates, except so far it seems there will be only one – in Medford, several hundred miles from most of the Oregon electorate. Friday, Wehby definitively refused a Portland TV debate, a standard element of an Oregon Senate or governors race campaign.

Typically, challengers – especially challengers trailing in the polls – are eager for debates, suggesting holding them on a weekly basis, or in every part of the state, or on every issue that can be drawn out of a hat. Incumbents and frontrunners – usually a redundancy – show a modest reluctance on debates, although this being Oregon, they generally agree to several.

Wehbys agreeing to only one debate, on Medford TV, displays a shyness unusual among challengers, usually so eager for TV time that theyll leap to appear on surveillance cameras. Wehby, however, has shown this diffidence before, declining the only televised debate, on KGW-TV, in the Republican primary campaign.

Нет, я ничего не знаю о Монике как о политике. Никто не знает. Похоже, она сама об этом знает очень немного, не была она политиком&

Но, пресса ее уже заметила. По тому количеству рекламы на тв и.. на ютубе, я могу судить, что Джеф Меркли тратит немаленькие деньги на свою предвыборную компанию.

И, не совсем чистую, нужно заметить.

Интересно, что покажут выборы?!

На моей памяти, это уже третий раз, если я не ошибаюсь, когда любители курнуть травки, пытаются протолкнуть закон о легализации марихуаны. Поскольку, в соседнем штате это уже легально, то, думаю, у нас это тоже проскочит на этот раз. В Орегоне, в ноябре, одновременно с выборами сенатора, будет проведен референдум о легализации марихуаны..

Сейчас идет очень серьезный накат в СМИ на избирателя.

Opponents of marijuana legalization in Oregon kicked off their campaign Monday standing next to an array of gummy bears, sugary cereal, chocolate bars and other products that Colorado retailers lace with marijuana and sell over the counter.

I dont want my kids to grow up in a place where this is normal, said Mandi Puckett, director of the No on 91 campaign, looking disdainfully at a display of such products as CannaPunch and a balm called Lip Bliss.

Puckett and other opponents argued that their biggest worry with legalized marijuana is that it will eventually be heavily marketed and turned into a product as mainstream as a cold beer on a hot day.

The marijuana industry wants us to believe that marijuana gummy bears and fruit punch are not targeting children, said Bob Doyle, a tobacco prevention expert from Colorado who has been active in an anti-marijuana group there.

Are we really going to go in this direction again?, Doyle added, referring to the long fight with the tobacco industry over marketing practices aimed at hooking young consumers. He brought the packages of pot products from Colorado but pointedly noted that the actual marijuana-laced materials had been discarded.

Anthony Johnson, the chief sponsor of the Oregon marijuana initiative, said opponents are wrong in thinking that illegal pot isnt already being heavily marketed.

Big marijuana is already here in Oregon and its called drug cartels, said Johnson. Measure 91 brings in strict controls and takes it away from the cartels.

Тела, обнаруженные на Востоке в массовых захоронениях, могли остаться без внутренних органов из-за торговли людьми. Об этом в эфире телеканала 112 Украина заявила специальный представитель и координатор ОБСЕ Мадина Джарбусынова. На ежегодном совещании ОБСЕ по вопросам имплементации обязательств в области прав человека прозвучало заявление представителя неправительственной группы, работающей в этой сфере, о том, что якобы в Украине на Востоке обнаружены захоронения, где, по свидетельству, эти тела оказались без внутренних органов, то есть вот поставлен вопрос о том, что существует такая торговля, возможно,  отметила Джарбусынова.

Ранее боевики заявили, что в районе поселка Коммунар на территории шахты №22 в 60 километрах восточнее Донецка они обнаружили захоронение гражданских лиц. Причем они сообщили, что это территория бывшего лагеря бойцов НГУ. В Нацгвардии опровергли это сообщение и отметили, что ни одно подразделение НГУ не базировалось в указанном районе и вблизи него. В свою очередь, миссия ОБСЕ зафиксировала три массовых захоронения людей в шахте Коммунар и селе Нижняя Крынка. Судебно-медицинских экспертов наблюдатели не встретили ни возле шахты, ни в деревне. В ОБСЕ констатировали, что не могут обеспечить судебную оценку увиденного и никого не хотят обвинять. Позже в ООН заявили, что проведут расследование сообщений о захоронениях в Донецкой области, помощь с опознанием тел обещал предоставить МККК.

С января я твержу о плане Путина. Я упорно и настойчиво говорил о плане Кремля, когда мне пытались заткнуть рот и оскорбляли.

Так вот. Уходит от друга жена. А твоя собственная жена смотрит на это, ты смотришь на жену и думаешь а вдруг и она свалит?! И ты подставляешь жене друга любовника. Не чистенького и аккуратного, а дебила.

Ты начинаешь делать так, чтобы любовник экс-жены друга начал пить и бить ее. Пропил работу, начал ссаться в штаны. Потом дом поджег. Со всеми дрался, выглядел клоуном и маргинализировался.

И вот уже экс-жена друга с тоской вспоминает времена, когда могла ходить по театрам, слушать Карузо и есть салаты из кукурузы.

А ты, удовлетворенный, смотришь на свою жену, которая, взирая на мытарства женщины, променявшей скучного, но стабильного муженька на неадекватного дебила, удовлетворенно хмыкаешь. Теперь не уйдет. Слишком сравнение не в пользу ухода.

Смотрите на вопросы глубже. Впрочем, как написано в одной умной книге, ум простого человека короток.
