Syria is not witnessing a battle for democracy, but an armed conflict between government and opposition in a multireligious country. There are few champions of democracy in Syria. But there are more than enough Qaeda fighters and extremists of all stripes battling the government. The United States State Department has designated Al Nusra Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, fighting with the opposition, as terrorist organizations. This internal conflict, fueled by foreign weapons supplied to the opposition, is one of the bloodiest in the world.

Mercenaries from Arab countries fighting there, and hundreds of militants from Western countries and even Russia, are an issue of our deep concern. Might they not return to our countries with experience acquired in Syria? After all, after fighting in Libya, extremists moved on to Mali. This threatens us all.

From the outset, Russia has advocated peaceful dialogue enabling Syrians to develop a compromise plan for their own future. We are not protecting the Syrian government, but international law. We need to use the United Nations Security Council and believe that preserving law and order in today’s complex and turbulent world is one of the few ways to keep international relations from sliding into chaos. The law is still the law, and we must follow it whether we like it or not. Under current international law, force is permitted only in self-defense or by the decision of the Security Council. Anything else is unacceptable under the United Nations Charter and would constitute an act of aggression.

Сегодня слушал радио, многие американские комментаторы сходятся в одном, многое из того, о чем говорит Путин, должен был сказать Обама.

Мои занятия плаванием транслируются на мою обычную жизнь.

Во-первых, и это наверное самое главное, я уже нормально сижу в коляске и& смотрю на мир совсем с иной точки. И теперь я четко вижу, куда я еду. Я вижу дорогу. Раньше все было больше интуитивно.

Во-вторых, с трудом, но я стою в воде. Не очень долго, минуты две, три, но& практически без поддержки инструктора.

И теперь у меня появились мышцы там, где я вообще даже не знал, что они у меня там есть. Работающие мышцы.

Ну, и, бассейн во всю его длину я проплываю без особого труда. Единственная проблема, моя сломанная правая рука, которая, как уже и так понятно, гребет слабее чем левая. Но..  гребет и& я научился компенсировать гребки с левой руки.

Короче,  плавание очень полезно.

Огромная благодарность Еврейскому Центру Mittleman Jewish Community Center за то, что они дали мне возможность заниматься плаванием бесплатно. Я наверное уже писал, (но если напишу еще раз, ничего плохого не произойдет), мой инструктор все это время занимается со мной бесплатно. И улыбка на его лице в то время, когда у меня что-то получается впервые, (а такого очень много и, практически,  каждое занятие)  это самая большая для меня награда. Иногда мне кажется, что он радуется за меня больше, чем я сам.

Думаю, так оно и есть.

В прошлое воскресенье мы с друзьями, с небольшой кампанией бродили по Downtown Portland. Ходили очень много и долго. Меня удивила Йипа, она никогда, при мне во всяком случае, так долго не ходила. Конечно, устала, но& кажется осталась довольной.

Кстати, сегодня был, на удивление, очень жаркий день. Впрочем,  осень, еще не очень заметно, но становится виднее и виднее. Лето пролетело очень быстро.

Кстати, не так давно мне все-таки удалось поменять свой российский паспорт. В смысле,  удалось обновить. Оказывается, никаких особых проблем не прибавилось. Единственное отличие, мне позвонили на мобильник и попросили соединиться с консульством по скайпу.

После этого, мне паспорт прислали по почте.

Так что& еще пять лет я  Гражданин России.

Just 36 percent of Americans support President Barack Obamas call for air strikes against Syrian President Bashar Assad, who the U.S. claims used chemical weapons to kill about 1,400 Syrians, including more than 400 children, according to a Gallup survey released Friday. Obama said he would seek congressional approval before moving ahead with the intervention, but faces stiff opposition from members, the public and the international community.

Failing to respond to this breach of this international norm would send a signal to rogue nations, authoritarian regimes and terrorist organizations that they can develop and use weapons of mass destruction and not pay a consequence, Obama said Friday during a news conference at the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg, Russia. And thats not the world that we want to live in.

The negative public opinion underscores why the president said he would address the public Tuesday to lay out his case for the intervention.

Gallup compiled public opinion on other recent military operations – from the Iraq War to Kosovo – all of which had more support than Obamas plan for Syria.

Mr. Issa, the aide said, believes his father was killed during a 27-day government crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood that year, known as the Hama massacre.

В продолжение к этому вопросу, не подскажет ли кто, можно ли ткуда-нибудь скачать что-то вроде live CD с линуксом? Чтобы загрузившись посмотреть на этот самый внешний жесткий диск из под линукса? Желательно, чтобы с каким-нибудь набором утилит он был, ну хотя бы какой-нибудь рабочий файл менеджер.

Вчера мне удалось сфотографировать Йипу в тот момент, когда ее стригли и мыли. В общем, работали над ее красотой.

Я уже писал, как мне кажется, что сейчас приезжает специальный автобус, в котором это все действо и происходит. Но начать мне хочеться с того, что Йипа очень не любит ее нового парикмахера. По одной простой причине  в процессе стрижки и помывки, наступает момент, когда нужно выдергивать волосы из Йипиных ушей.

В этот момент мне кажется, что если бы все это проделывали бы надо мной, я чувствовал себя бы лучше. Но без этого, увы, никак не обойтись из-за хронической грибковой инфекции, из-за которой Йипа уже лишилась барабанных перепонок (Eardrums). Я об этом тоже писал.

А это, как вы понимаете, совсем неприятное и очень болезненное для Йипы мероприятие. Йипа не любит ее нового парикмахера буквально до того, что вчера мне пришлось тянуть Йипу к автобусу практически силой. Однако, оказавшись внутри автобуса Йипа успокаивается и&

“While I respect your right to conclude that I am the biggest embarrassment to higher education in America, I think you’re wrong,” Mike Adams, professor of sociology and criminology at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington told “Edward” in an open letter. “In fact, I don’t even think I’m the biggest embarrassment to higher education in the state of North Carolina. But since you’re a liberal and you support ‘choice’ – provided we’re talking about dismembering children and not school vouchers for those who weren’t dismembered – I want to give you some options.”

He then laid out nine examples of truly outrageous antics by other professors, administrators and campus groups in North Carolina to see how he stacks up, including:

1. In the early spring semester of 2013, a women’s studies professor and a psychology professor at Western Carolina University co-sponsored a panel on bondage and S&M. The purpose of the panel was to teach college students how to inflict pain on themselves and others for sexual pleasure. When you called me the biggest embarrassment in higher education, you must not have known about their bondage panel. Maybe you were tied up that evening and couldn’t make it.

2. At UNC Chapel Hill, there is a feminist professor who believes that women can lead happy lives without men. That’s nothing new. But what’s different is that she thinks women can form lifelong domestic partnerships with dogs and that those relationships will actually be fulfilling enough to replace marital relationships with men. I can’t make this stuff up, Ed. I don’t drop acid. Well, at least not since the late 1980s. But I promise this story is real and not an LSD flashback.

3. At Duke University, feminists hired a “sex worker” (read: prostitute) to speak as part of an event called the Sex Workers Art Show. After his speech, the male prostitute pulled down his pants, got down on his knees, and inserted a burning sparkler into his rectum. While it burned, he sang a verse of “the Star Spangled Banner.” I believe that stripping incident was almost as embarrassing as the other one involving the Duke Lacrosse team.

4. A porn star was once paid to give a speech at UNCG. The topic was “safe sodomy.” After her speech, the feminist pornographer sold autographed butt plugs to students in attendance. I’m not sure whether the ink could contribute to rectal cancer. I’m no health expert. But I do know it was pretty darned embarrassing when the media picked up on the story.

5. A few years ago at UNC-Chapel Hill, a feminist group built a large vibrator museum in the middle of the campus quad as a part of their “orgasm awareness week.” I think that was probably the climax of the semester, academically speaking. But they certainly weren’t too embarrassed to display a vibrator that was made out of wood back in the 1920s. Keep your batteries charged, Ed. We’re about halfway done.

A former Montana high school teacher convicted of raping a 14-year-old female student who later committed suicide will face only 30 days of jail time.

Stacey Dean Rambold, 54, had at least three sexual encounters with student Cherice Morales in 2008. In 2010, the student committed suicide a few weeks before her 17th birthday, The Billings Gazette reported.

Yellowstone County Judge G. Todd Baugh sentenced Rambold to 15 years prison, with all but only 31 days suspended for sexual intercourse without consent. The judge then gave Rambold credit for one day served, bringing the offenders total jail time to just 30 days.

Auliea Hanlon, mother to the victim, testified that her daughters relationship with Rambold was a large factor in the teens suicide. As the sentence was delivered, Hanlon began to scream You people suck! before leaving the courtroom.

The judge said victim Morales was as much in control of the situation as Rambold, according to Time.com.

Although Rambold was ordered to complete a sex-offender treatment program to have charges dismissed in 2008 after pleading guilty to rape, he was terminated from the program for missing meetings. Judge Baugh said the ex-teachers termination from the program did not warrant a lengthy imprisonment.

Judge Baugh also said victim Morales was older than her chronological age.

Updated, 9:39 p.m. | The United States stock market showed again on Thursday that it remained vulnerable to technological breakdowns even as regulators and market operators work to keep up with trading that is increasingly electronic and driven by speed.

The latest trouble shut down trading on the Nasdaq market and its more than 3,000 stocks — including some of the most popular among investors, like Apple and Google — for more than three hours Thursday afternoon.

The disruption on the nation’s second-largest stock market, after the New York Stock Exchange, reverberated up and down Wall Street, affecting other markets as investors cautiously stepped back. Brokers scrambling to trade elsewhere discovered that they could not complete trades while in the dark about prices on Nasdaq.

“It is everybody — nobody can trade,” Manoj Narang, the chief executive of Tradeworx, said during the afternoon. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Some expressed relief that the problems came in August, typically a slow time for Wall Street.

“We didn’t lose any money on the shutdown, but we also made very little money today,” said the chief executive of one Wall Street firm, who asked not to be named.

Nasdaq officials said the halt was prompted by a problem with the data system that disseminates prices and that its cause had been “identified and addressed.”

The breakdown came just two days after Goldman Sachs accidentally sent out a barrage of errant trades that disrupted the exchanges where options are bought and sold. The two episodes have amplified questions about the reliability and integrity of financial markets that companies depend on to raise money and Americans trust with their retirement savings.

More than a year ago, the eagerly awaited market debut of Facebook shares was marred by a delay and technical problems. In May 2010, computer malfunctions were blamed for the “flash crash” when a flurry of stocks plunged to $1 or less and the Dow Jones industrial average plummeted more than 700 points in a matter of minutes.

NEW YORK, Aug 23 (Reuters)  Thirty minutes into the crippling outage that hobbled the Nasdaq stock market on Thursday afternoon, stopping all trading in $5.9 trillion worth of U.S. equities, exchange officials had the problem fixed.

It was another two-and-a-half hours, however, before they were ready to flip the switch and turn the all-electronic market back on.

Most of the 191 minutes that the exchange was dark was spent in sometimes frantic conversation with scores of banks, brokers, investment companies and rival exchanges who wanted Nasdaqs assurance that a restoration of trading would be orderly and would not lead to panic.

We had to make sure all the exchanges were connected to us successfully and if the firms on the outside could get in, said one Nasdaq official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, banks trading desks were cautioning Nasdaq, operated by Nasdaq OMX Group Inc, not to rush to reopen, fearing that a restart full of technical errors would only sap more confidence from rattled markets, according to three sources at brokerages and banks who declined to be identified.

In the end, the reopening of trading did go relatively well.

Transactions first restarted at 3 p.m. EDT (1900 GMT) in a single microcap stock, Atlantic American Corp, a test case picked for its front-of-the-alphabet ticker. Twenty-five minutes later, the rest of the market opened, and, according to a Nasdaq statement, The trading day finished in normal course.

Голландский апелляционный суд снял запрет на деятельность организации, лоббирующей половые отношения между взрослыми и детьми, после того как пришёл к выводу, что она не нарушает каких-либо законов, действующих в Нидерландах.

В прошлом году суд по гражданским делам в северо-восточном городе Ассене постановил о роспуске фонда Мартейна, указав на то, что его позиция представляет собой «серьёзное посягательство на ценности нашего общества».

Но как сообщил сайт Dutch News, апелляционный суд в Леувардене принял решение, согласно которому организация, утверждающая, что она не занимается пропагандой сексуальных злоупотреблений, и настаивающая на том, что является «площадкой для обсуждения педофилии», не может быть поставлена вне закона, поскольку её существование не угрожает обществу.

Суд согласился с доводами о том, что организация, лоббируя педофилию, действительно пошла против «определённых принципов голландской уголовно-правовой системы», но сослался на то, что у общества достаточно сил, чтобы противостоять таким «нежелательным высказываниям и отвратительному поведению», не запрещая их.

UPDATE, 12:25 PM: Production on TNT’s hit drama Rizzoli & Isles has been shut down in light of the sudden passing of co-star Lee Thompson Young, whose body was discovered in his apartment after he failed to show up for work this morning. The producers of the series, in which Thompson played star Angie Harmon’s partner on the force, are currently evaluating whether to resume production tomorrow or go on hiatus while the cast and crew cope with Young’s death and writers figure out how to write off his character. Here is TNT, Rizzoli & Isles‘ studio Warner Bros TV and executive producer Janet Tamaro’s statement today on Young’s death: “Everyone at Rizzoli & Isles is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”
