Buy Yacht Rights in Russia Despite US Sanctions

Четверг, 03 Ноября 2022 г. 22:21 + в цитатник

While you might not be thinking about купить права на яхту in Russia, it can be a great way to keep your yacht in the country. Many Russian billionaires are under sanctions, but this hasn't stopped them from moving their superyachts to safe havens. At least one oligarch-owned superyacht has already made its way to the Maldives and Seychelles, and tracking data indicates that more are on their way.

US lawmakers have weighed in on the controversy. Two Democratic representatives from New Jersey and a Republican from South Carolina have both backed legislation that could seize yachts and sell them to raise funds for Ukraine. While neither has confirmed whether or not a Russian oligarch is buying a yacht, they have endorsed the bill to seize the vessels for humanitarian aid. The legislation would allow such seizures for two years after its passage.

The latest round of sanctions has raised concerns about sanctions against Russian oligarchs. While the sanctions are meant to punish Russian citizens, they also target yachts and shipyards that have outstanding debts. These sanctions can lead to legal battles that go on for years. However, each country has its own laws, and the latest round of sanctions raises many questions.

While the United States has not yet sanctioned Russian yachts, many European governments have. Since these countries do not have an extradition treaty with Russia, some of their commercial vessels and yachts have been seized by the governments of these countries. Similarly, many European governments have seized the yachts of Russian citizens due to the conflict in Ukraine.

A recent scandal has exposed the connection between some of the leading Russian billionaires. One of these is the former KGB trainer Gennady Timchenko. He bought the Lena yacht for $18 million in 2009, allegedly with the help of his wife and daughter. His daughter and son-in-law also have the rights to use it. This prompted the United States to sanction the Russian leader and his family.

The recent sanctions against Russia have sparked a wave of uncertainty in the industry. Many European buyers have remained hesitant, citing the conflict in Ukraine. Still, there are many opportunities for a yacht to be part of the Russian fleet. The country's superyacht owners make up between seven and 10 percent of the world's fleet, and they tend to be the largest and most high-profile yachts.

The crisis has also led to a rise in prices. The war with Russia has affected prices around the world and increased the cost of gas. Gas prices in the US and Europe have almost doubled in recent weeks. As a result, yacht owners have been forced to wait months for their new yacht to be delivered.

Moreover, many customers are now asking questions about the yacht's background and the person who owns it. This situation has also affected the sales of these yachts. Many of these Russian-linked superyachts are privately-owned and are not for charter.
