Memphis , Tennessee

Понедельник, 22 Марта 2010 г. 17:12 + в цитатник

Close-up of typical newer houses.

Coming soon to a neighborhood near you: More.

Not sprawl. Mud Island (??), a neotraditional development north of downtown Memphis. I put it here just for the heck of it. Look nice.

Lots of industry in Memphis. Some chemical facility.

Lovely, ain't it?

In addition to being the home of Elvis, Memphis is where your FedEx package goes to before you get it at home or at work.

Old sprawl and new sprawl.

Old sprawl and an old school.

Here's what it looked like before the sprawl.

This is big so I'll thumbnail it.

Another neotraditional development.

Yay, more.

Neighborhood quckie-marts, gas station and school amid the sprawl.

Semi-rural stuff.

Some apartments and a Mormon church. This is the first time I've seen a Mormon church with a green roof.

More apartments. Or condos, or whatever they are.

The obligatory mall.

This pic gives you an indication as to why so many cities in the eastern US in these Windows Live Local bird's-eye views are taken in the winter or early in the spring when the trees don't have leaves. If this had been taken in the summer, you'd hardly be able to see the houses.

Lovely.

Close-up of some new starter homes.

Close-up of some newer apartments and some newer houses. Note the lots yet to be built on - grab one before they're gone!

Church of the Eternal Sprawl.

Y'know, this looks a lot like the stuff around Detroit.

I'm starting to fall in love with these railyard pics.

I should also buy a container factory somewhere.

More containers.

A brown lake, a black lake, and some sprawl.

More semi-rural stuff.

I suppose the office and the warehouse protect them from tornados.

Some inner-city stuff. Not so sprawly. Though not particularly dense, either.

Ditto.

Close-up of some semi-dense sprawl.

The New Americana.

Older stuff on the left, newer stuff on the right.

This one's my favorite. Super Target on the left, Wal-Mart Supercenter on the right.

Target-colored middle school, Wal-Mart-colored elementary school.

Brand-spanking-new shopping center(s) amid the brand-spanking-new sprawl.

Older-but-nice stuff. With a church.

New new new!

I cannot tell a lie: This looks pretty nice.

Here's another example of why they take most of these bird's-eye shots in the Eastern cities when the leaves are off the trees: A few more weeks and you wouldn't be able to see these houses.

We interrupt this sprawl for another natural interlude.

Still more semi-rural stuff. Quaint setting here.

Close-up of some older sprawl.

Count the cul-de-sacs.
