Budapest , Photo collection (part 1)

3. Hopefully more of this awaits.

4. The subways run deep underground. These trains look quite retro, and the doors get quite ruthless when they close with a loud bang. Keep your fingers away.

5. We started walking around the Pest side. Strangely, the streets were quiet.

7. The beautiful Parliament building sits next to the river.

19. Some other monumental neighbours ...

22. I actually don't recall taking a tram while in Budapest.

28. Soon after we left the Parliament area, the streets got even more deserted. There didn't seem to be any street-level retail at all, which we thought was a bit strange considering this is the city centre.

33. I didn't mind so much about the serenity, though.

4. Since the weather isn't so good, I focussed on the architectural colours and details.

15. A new glassy building looks a bit out of place. At least it's not a huge skyscraper!

29. During the walk along a pedestrianized street, we noticed an inner courtyard of surprises.

I must admit my first day in Budapest was a bit disappointing, but the second day fared much better. We lived on the Buda side, and was only a short climb away from the historic sights. We set off early, trying to find our way with our maps.

The stairs weren't so bad. It was early in the morning so our energy were at top levels.

The coverage area seems manageable, and we could probably do most of the sidestreets in the morning.

Soon after we emerged at the top of the staircase, we saw an opening and some breath-taking views of Buda.

Then we started exploring the sidestreets. The architecture was quite good, and these buildings seemed much better maintained than their counterparts on the Pest side.

I noticed many buildings had these huge doors. I wonder why is that the case? Were the residents back in the day very wealthy people?
