“Happy House” - Siouxsie And The Banshees

Naming your band after the song of another band is presumptious and, tricky.

Let’s face it; If you suck, and I mean suck with the white hot power that only truly bad newborn bands are able, you embarass not only yourself, but you sully the good name upon which you wished only tribute. Forshame, besmirching your idol that way.

Happy House took that presumptiuous first step. The catch is, they don’t suck. Far from generating excessive amounts of vaccum pressure; Happy House managed to put together 5 tracks that (mostly) soothe your musical soul, in a positive, non-suck kinda way.

Building from a strongly beat driven chill established early in track 1, “Fige Dans La Cire“, HH shifts quickly into second with “Que Je Suis” with it’s creepy minor key and breathy vocals.

Departing for the title track, “Metamorphoses” is intense and angelic. Vocals take center stage, pulling you in with a tinge of desperation until *pow* the rock and roll chorus comes thundering out of your listener-tronic-player-type-thing (iPod, Transistor Radio, what have you). My French is admittedly awful, but this track almost seems out of place.. and a little nervous.

Happy House - Metamorphoses“Correspondance“, track four on Metamorphoses adds some light male vocals. The change up is appreciated, but this song isn’t much to write home about. It would feel right at home on radio, packaged under 3 minutes as it is, mixed well and with enough energy to carry through.

Alas, “Time is Over“. And that happens to be the name of the fith and final track. This just didn’t work for me. It’s a bit over the top, all fast and frenetic, without much charm to pull it out of the hole. It has a great rock feel for about 4 bars, and you think something is about to happen; It just never does.
