From "Meeting" to "Council on Civil and Political Rights"
All members of the program committee agreed, that the Viennese meeting should be announced as First European TransGender Council, respectively - in long-text version - as First European TransGender Council on Civil and Political Rights.
On the one hand this reflects the strong will for common political action, so many of you expressed in their mails. On the other hand it expresses that this meeting is a serious approach to stand up together to establish fundamental human rights for transgenders.
It's time that our gender identities become fully recognized in all European states, that transgenders share all social and political rights and have unlimited access to public health service. And transgenders shouldn't have to fear violence and discrimination.
Common Demands
The program committee relished that we might address our demands to national governments and to the European Union. But which demands? It's our common task to fix our goals. But the harmonisation of our opinions should not start in November but just by now. We invited the participating groups to form their opinions about: "What are the 3 most important demands that the First European TransGender Council should pursuit on an Europe-wide level." The results will be published on this website by the beginning of August. This will be the first step for a preliminary voting for a common political program.
Vienna is waiting for you
We received some requests whether Vienna would be save for transgenders or if you would have to be prepared to face violence. Be sure: Vienna is a save place for transgenders of all colours. We have not heard of aggression against transgenders for years. Even last year, when we organised an info-table at an open-air festival, which is in full vogue for drunken young men, everything went peacefully.
