Cowl & Hat

MATERIALS: 2 balls Encore in 2 contrasting colors- team colors for hat or cowl, 16” circular size 8; 1 stitch marker.
Color A = white, color B = red
Gauge: 4.5 sts =1” on size 8 needle
Needles: 16” circular size 8 plus dpns (Size 8) for the hat.

COWL:
With size 8-- 16” circular needle and color A, loosely cast on 90(100) sts.
Join and work in the round. Place a stitch marker.
Knit 10 rounds. NOTE: DO NOT CUT YARN! Carry unused color up at the changing point.
**Change to color B and knit 1 round.
With color B purl 3 rounds.
Change to color A and knit 4 rounds.
Repeat from ** until there are 12(10) stripes of color B. End with the 4 rounds of color A. Knit 6 additional rounds of color A. Bind off loosely with color A. Weave in all ends.

HAT:
With size 8-- 16” circular needle and color A, loosely cast on 90 sts.
Join and work in the round. Place a stitch marker.
Knit 10 rounds. NOTE: DO NOT CUT YARN! Carry unused color up at the changing point.
**Change to color B and knit 1 round.
With color B purl 3 rounds.
Change to color A and knit 4 rounds.
Repeat from ** until there are 6 stripes of color B. After ending with the last 3 rounds of color B, change to color A and knit 1 round. End with the 4 rounds of color A.
Begin decreases, changing to double pointed needles when needed:
Continuing with color A:
Round 1: *(K8, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: *(K7, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 4: Knit.
Round 5: *(K6, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 6: Knit.
Round 7: *(K5, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 8: *(K4, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 9: *(K3, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 10: *(K2, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 11: *(K1, k2tog); repeat from * around.
Round 12: *(K2tog); repeat from * around.
Cut yarn and thread through remaining sts. Pull up tight and anchor to the inside. Weave in all ends.
