Испытывали новую пушку, чтобы не тащить её хрен знает куда на полигон, собрали эту хрень, дабы не пугать месных бюргеров выстрелами. А вообще эту хрень ещё и на леопард ставили...

Это детище IFL - Institut für Lärmschutz, - основанный 20 лет назад доктором Эдмундом Бюхта Институт по контролю Шума.
Вот что они делают для военных:
Since the early 80's, shooting noise is at the focus of scientific research of the institute. The IfL especially investigates shooting sounds from military training, small arms up to heavy weapons.
The IfL developed measurement techniques and analysing procedures for these high-impulsive high-energy acoustical events to bring ahead the physical understanding and prediction for these noise sources. The experience of the IfL strongly influences the national and international standardisation in the field of shooting noise prediction and assessment.
In addition, the IfL developed abatement measures for small arms shooting ranges: in the early days the so-called 'coffered ceiling' capable to attenuate noise levels by more than 15 dB elsewhere in the vicinity of the range; now the IfL is developing a special attenuating baffle that reduces reflections of impulse sound to the max of 18 dB.
