Tel Aviv. Anette Olzon's first public gig as Nightwish' new vocalist is behind. So how did it go in Tel Aviv, Israel?

As was expected, says critic Jussi Alroth. Olzon sang mostly well but the nervousness was occasionally heard as wrong sounds.

Nightwish is now a band, like others. It has to accept that sometimes singers sing wrong onstage.

Alroth says that Olzon was at her best when singing high notes. Especially at the end of songs when the chorus gets carried away Olzon was at her strongest. But when singing old songs when she had to sing low her voice didn't carry like Tarja Turunen's.

Olzon wasn't the obvious centre of the stage. She didn't yet become the headfigure of the band, which is totally understandable. The speaks were a bit fragmented and her moves didn't quite live up to the drama of Nightwish's music.

The bassist-singer Marco Hietala is still the one who captivates the audience. At the Tavastia gig the Finnish fans were shouting Anette's name. In Tel Aviv the audience was shouting "Marco".

Olzon's performance was, however, promising, writes Alroth. When Nightwish comes to Finland in December they have many gigs behind them and more confidence.

That is why the band started its world tour from Israel where it had never performed before.
