Klaus Meine Interview May 2007 |
"Humanity is something... I mean, everyday we wake up, we open up the newspaper,
watch the news... there's somethng goiong on, we go... well, what is wrong with this world?!
What is wrong with the people, you know, so it's like hour 1 ten thousand years until now.
<...>And there is a big question mark: "what is our future?" for us, for our children,
for the generations are follow and what can we do to get out of this mess. It's a time now
to turn around and find back to the road of humanity, that means: have to find back
to respect each other and how we take care of each other and how we treat ourselves,
how we treat this world. So this is a basic idea of this album[humanity hour 1]
<...>
If we don't change, we have no chance to survive, you know. And it's not a new message,
actually, it's been told many times. It's an old message. It's a message taken from the 60s
"make love, not war", you know, but in 2007 it's a message that is very very important.
And we want this message to be heard all over the world, we want this message
[to be heard with young generation]<...> and we hope, and it's a very good sign when we
play shows, like we just did, and we see many many young kids in front of the stage
and "wow, what happened", you know, but, obviously there's somthing they find in our music
and they listening. I think that's very positive thing that our music travelles to next generation
and for artist i think it's important if you have this voice, that people are listening to your
songs and feel like emotionally touched, that you use this kind of power. Music is a very powerful
tool, and as musicians we try to use this tool, reaching out and try to connect people with
our music and in a world that is out of balance every other day...we just watch the news
yesterday from the Guinea... What is wrong with all of us?! you know, there is a line
of Humanity: no one can save us from ourselves, you know, "nothing can change us,
no one can save us from ourselves" that's very true. <...> We feel we should never stop trying
to put out positive energy in a world that's getting more and more out of balance and if we can add
just a little bit to bring this balance back to normal after september, 11th, it would be great,
if we all learn to respect each other and that's what we see everywhere, we go through so many
different countries we play<...> We should never give up, trying to make this world a better place
and we should tell young people "it's up to you" and we never should stop believing that we
can change the world, that we can make this world a safer place"
