So peeps on my tumblr were asking if i'd ever repurpose my pony characters into regular OCs...hmmmm probably! Breaking free from MLP means losing the pre-made fantasy sandbox world, but I've always wondered how my characters would fare in a modern setting. Also, assigning them all new species is pretty fun~

Anyway! You can probably recognize these two. Sunny and Bruce are slightly different from their ponyworld counterparts. They're roommates that live together in a yet-unnamed big city (similar to Portland, or maybe Seattle?) populated by (you guessed it) talking anthropomorphic animals. They're both somewhere in their late twenties, with Bruce being the older of the two. Their existence is humble, living in a cramped apartment Bruce couldn't quite afford on his own- Sunny was the only one who answered his personal ad. Their relationship is...odd.

Sunny (Male, Golden Retriever)

-Personality is somewhere between a himbo and a fuckboi

-BIGTIME ADHD. Forgetful and scatterbrained, extremely easily distracted, like, well.....a dog. Keeps his living space clean but ridiculously messy, which makes Bruce big mad

-Sheds EVERYWHERE

-Woofs when excited, chews tennis balls when stressed

-Underneath his fluffy bangs he has dumb little beady eyes. This dog has nothing going on upstairs

-Struggled in school, has trouble holding down jobs, drifts through life without a plan (though it certainly helps having wealthy parents to mooch off)

-massive jock energy, a superb athlete. Loves to swim, loves the beach, excellent surfer. Becomes anxious if prevented from letting all his energy out daily

-warm and friendly to a fault, genuinely considers Bruce to be his best buddy

-total hypebeast, loves making people feel their absolute best, has an easy time making new friends. related: tends to be drawn toward toxic people. it sometimes seems that his past may not have been very happy.

-doesnt give a shit about gender norms, loves to feel pretty whenever possible

-verrrrry touchy-feely and openly affectionate with everyone he cares about

-a little bit more of a jerk than Stormy, also extremely competitive. Challenge Sunny to a volleyball game and he'll kick your ass and call you a bitch with a smile on his face

Bruce (Male, Wallaby)

-plant nerd! studying to be botanist. names all of his houseplants and talks to them daily

-introvert, prefers plants to people. intelligent and extremely opinionated once you get him talking

-smol, even for a wallaby. sidenote: do not mistake him for a kangaroo u will piss him off

-Aussie accent, becomes impossible to understand when angered

-a surly boi with a quick temper

-pretty socially awkward

-no idea what to do around girls. Gay af but unaware of the fact

-has a HUGE crush on Sunny but has never had a crush before so he mostly just flounders like an idiot in Sunny's presence, especially since a lot of Sunny's friendliness comes off like flirting ("Hey Brucie we should shower together to save on water!"). Bruce panics a lot in the face of this and can be a dick about pushing Sunny away. Sunny doesn't mind, Bruce is so smart and nice and doesn't even get that mad when Sunny eats his snacks! What a bro!

-Grew up poor, so pinches every penny as an adult. Was raised by a truly terrible father whom he has since become estranged from, still struggles to escape the toxic ideals of masculinity (Boys don't cry, Suck it up, etc) forced on him by his dad. A very emotional and sensitive person, prides himself on not needing anyone, but is secretly a little love-starved.

-Gripes a lot about his roommate but still begrudgingly lets Sunny crash in his bed when there's a bad thunderstorm outside. May or may not have petted Sunny's ears (so long as Sunny is asleep of course)

-Like all wallabies and kangaroos, Bruce cannot truly walk like a regular biped because his legs cant move independently of each other. He can't take steps. Thus he hops everywhere. His dumb little hippety-hop is quite adorable to watch, and has earned him the nickname BunBun by Sunny, which he fuckin HATES



from the illustrious : first.....MY BOOOOOOOIIIIIISSSSS !!!!! They might be a little different but at their core they are still my favorite dumb babies I missed them!

AND I DIDNT THINK BRUCE COULD GET ANY CUTER I WAS WRONG. And "bunbun" my heart. In the future Sunny will absolutely call Bruce "walla-babe" when he's flirty and poor Bruce's brain just loses connection and what do halp

-Bruce is a total bookworm and has special signed limited editions from favorite authors he has a Gollum-like obsession with, and also has an emotional support pile of unread books on his nightstand.

SUNNY IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I love the complementing contrasting colors between him and Bruce.

-Since Sunny doesn't have Stormy's eyes, I'm hc that he might be close to blind, or at least severely nearsighted. This doesn't slow him down in the slightest and having an EXCELLENT sense of smell and good hearing helps compensate. Though sometimes if they're out in new or very crowded places, Sunny's senses can get a little overwhelmed and he'll often place a hand on Bruce and let him guide. And yes this is part of the reason he runs around with bangs completely covering his eyes. The other being that he's vain as hell and he KNOWS how pretty his fur is.

-Totally subscribing to the hc that Sunny has a Dark Past his parents might have bailed him out from and he's desperate to forget. Even Sunny is happy to believe that he's nothing more then a big dumb overhappy puppy and nothing else because then he won't fuck up again. He certainly doesn't very secretly have anxiety and shame over his past and doesn't sometimes hide behind his adorable "brain empty SQUIRREL" smile. Why yes I like to dramatically overcomplicate cutesy characters' lives, why do you ask

So this is Skye. She's more or less our furry version of Princess Skyla, with just a dash of Rosemary thrown in.

Skye is a little pup in a dog-eat-dog world, which meant she needed to get really good at sticking up for herself just to avoid being sat on by accident. She's snooty, bossy, and downright yappy- get her mad enough and she'll start yipping in fury. She's exactly as neurotic as her ponyworld counterpart. Skye is also fiercely loyal and a truly devoted friend, protective and brave even against an adversary 100 times her size. She's a career girl- really more of a workaholic- and has big, big dreams for her future! Skye wants it all- a flourishing crafts business, a big cozy home in the suburbs, a loving, hardworking husband, a litter of adorable puppies.....all these dreams are often at odds with her less-than-ambitious boyfriend, Sunny.

Skye and Sunny have been together a good long time. They love each other a whole lot, and dogs are notoriously loyal partners. They share a love of dancing together to ABBA music, playing frisbee on the beach, and snuggling on the couch. It's a good relationship. Functional. Can't really complain. Skye gets frustrated sometimes by Sunny's lack of focus and drive....but it's okay. She'll mold him into someone great eventually, and maybe then her parents will stop chiding her about dating a loser. Sunny tries not to let his mind wander too much when Skye tells him about her day. Skye tries to be a good sport when Sunny would rather go to some greasy burger joint than the high-end restaurant she made reservations at. Sunny tries so hard to be what she wants, and Skye tries so hard to compromise on her needs. Because they love each other. Skye loves Sunny's boyish charm and music and unshakable enthusiasm, Sunny loves Skye's confidence and wit and the rare times she drops her walls to tell a joke. They are trying so, so hard to make this work. Because they love each other. Because they've been together this long. Because dogs are loyal. Neither will quit on the other.....even if maybe, they're not as happy as they'd like to be.

Bruce doesn't actually meet Skye for a while, because Skye's work keeps her pretty busy. Learning his roommate has a girlfriend is a bit of a shock....At first he teases Sunny, who would've thought a doofy dog like him would land a high-flying business genius like her.... but well...he sees them together...he hears them laughing...sees Skye peck Sunny's cheek, and the teasing stops. He finds himself not liking it one bit. It's different reasons as to why. "She's too stuck up for Sunny, she's no fun at all...Sunny likes to have fun, bleedn' Christ do they just snuggle 24/7?!" Then after a little time he's just thinking that he feels a little left out is all. Sunny has become his best mate..."bros before hos" or something. He tries to logic it all away but that can't explain the pit of anger and sickness in his gut when he sees them together.

Sunny, meanwhile, is wondering why sometimes....he'd rather spend time with his roommate over his girlfriend? God. He's such a terrible boyfriend nowadays. Poor Skye. Better buy her some flowers, she deserves so much. He just needs to try harder, that's all.
