Beyer Peacock built many impressively large locomotives such as the articulated Garratts and others of various gauges, but it also built some small engines such as 18-inch-gauge 0-4-0WT Dot (c/n 2817, 1887) which served the internal railway of the company's large Gorton Foundry in Manchester. Identical locomotives were sold to the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway for the Horwich Works internal railway, and different locomotives of the same gauge and similar architecture were built by and for the LNWR Crewe Works. Dot is displayed at the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum in Tywyn, Wales while LYR Wren and LNWR Pet are both displayed at the National Railway Museum in York, England. I am not sure how Dot came to Tywyn, but considering how many industrial railways in the UK used very narrow gauges (almost minimum gauge at times) her part of railway history is certainly worth preserving and representing alongside common carriers, slate quarries, the military and other narrow gauge users.
