Here's my take on an artist avatar: a seamstress stitching stars tot the fabric of spacetime, and creating stories about them in the process.
I do a lot of different creative stuff, and this piece has a connection to many of those things. I love stars. I write stories where they form an important plot point. Stars tell stories too. Constellations represent characters, animals, or objects. Many of them have some ancient myth tied to them. They have inspired me a lot. How awesome would it be to "stitch" those stars together into a constellation and imagine the story behind it yourself? Sign me up for that job, please.
I craft costumes and sew clothing too. I've been doing that a lot lately, so I wanted to focus on it with this drawing. This piece is totally accurate footage of the process, haha! The only thing that's missing is my amazing Granny's amazing sewing machine, because no way I'll do this stuff by hand if I have a choice in the matter. The fabric of space is real:
Isn't it pretty??? I can create my own wormholes with this stuff, hahaha! Which I didn't, I went for short cape instead. I finished it, but I still need to take some decent photos of it. You'll have to do with just the fabric for now
I have a soft spot for feathers too, so my take on an artist avatar has wings and a giant feather headdress (a little inspired by
one I've made a few years ago, but with far more epic feathers). And is there such a thing as astropunk? That term would totally fit the outfit:
- See the circular thingy on the headdress? that's the rete of an astrolabe, which are maps of the night sky. They could calculate the time as well, or when the sun or a certain star would rise/set. (I'd love to own one of these, so if anyone knows where to find one for a decent price, let me know!)
- There's a sextant on the corset.
- The shoulder piece is an armillary sphere, though it's a little butchered for artistic reasons...
- and, of course, a telescope. It's tiny and cute, otherwise it couldn't be strapped to her arm. I didn't know how else I could include it, but I couldn't leave out astronomy's most famous instrument, of course.
Additionally, the massive circles in the background that merge with the wings are based on an astronomical clock - the one in Prague specifically.
The floating thing in the foreground is a spinning wheel. The wheel is, again, an astrolabe, and the thread is being spun from a galaxy (why go for cotton or wool if you can have the stellar stuff, eh?). The thread is used to stitch stars to the fabric of space time... which form galaxies... which are spun into thread... which stitches stars... which form galaxies... hmm, I've found loophole. Or perhaps it's a metaphor I totally didn't make up way after the art was finished: your work inspires another, whose work inspires another, whose work inspires another ... and whose work inspires you again

1. What traits does your artist persona have?
Look at her face. She looks a little grumpy, but she's actually just so focused on her task that she forgets to smile :')
2. How could art school help your learning process?
Considering I never went to art school (youtube is my teacher), there are probably quite a few techniques I missed out on. Those could help me speed up my process or develop my style.
3. What is your dream career in the arts?
Not to have a career, to be honest. Art for me is to have fun and relax (and do a commission only occasionally). Careers can be stressful. Besides, I won't feel happy if I have to art a lot. I lose inspiration and motivation somehow.
Done in photoshop. Took half a century, give or take. The muses were totally with me on this one, but they also demanded a lot of detail and way too many geometrical shapes...
Also, my apologies to those waiting for their commission. This wouldn't leave me alone. Blame the muses for that too :')
