My take on the SMBSS. I'd love to work on the concept art and produce a modern SMBSS. I'd focus on the adventures of Mario and his crew without adhering to any particular game for inspiration to keep it from seeming outdated. It would heavily look to Mario 1 and 2 for inspiration with some elements from 3 and World thrown in for good measure. I see it as a return to the basics of the series without the more ridiculous elements. No more pasta world, sherlock homes land, or anything like that. Just adventures in the Mushroom and Koopa Kingdoms as well as locales like the Koopahari Desert or Dinosaur and Giant Islands. Again, simplify and streamline.

In this piece you'll notice that the majority of the color schemes reflect the looks we saw in the original SMBSS. King Koopa has been replaced with my own design that is closer in it's look to Bowser while retaining some DIC/Valliant comic elements. I've also changed the Koopa and Hammer Bros to resemble the SMW character model; I found that one to be more interesting than those in the original series.
