I forgot to transfer my screencapture files and clean off my drive, ran out of space recording this A It would also explain why Photoshop was getting laggier as time went on heh.
The main idea I wanted to convey was the dude just melting, chunks of him fizzling into the sandstone beneath him as he struggled to limp onward towards his assailant. For a while I had the smoke and melty bits more orange and red but then it seemed more like he was being burnt rather than melting, which sounds pretty gruesome I guess when I type it out but...it's true! So towards the end I tried to adjust the hue on the smoke and normal layer above it to a more green tint and I think it worked out better. A gradient of light tan set over the villain set to screen pushes them back a bit so the melty boi gets more attention because of the contrast.
The background is a super throw away, partly made by duplicating the rock the guy is leaning his hand on and transforming it, and then setting up a soft layer gradient and smudging out columns and rock formations. It's quick and dirty but I think it gets the job done, at least for setting up a concept-type piece like a spitpaint. There's a layer set to overlay over everything to build in more saturation, with the top part having a hue-shifted gradient to give it a deeper ochre tint, like changing up the atmospheric perspective from blue/purple to a richer orange to reflect the dust in the air.
Props to anyone that can guess who the baddie is lol
