It's In Your Hands It's Gone |
Species: Black Lemur (Moormaki)
Latin name: Eulemur Macaco
Originates from Madagascar.
Current status: Vulnerable
Did you know:
&Until 2008, the Black Lemur and Blue-Eyed Black Lemur were elevated to species status, where heretofore they were considered subspecies of Eulemur Macaco. The most startling difference between the two are the blue eyes of the Blue-Eyed Black, opposed to the orange-yellow of the Black.
&The Black Lemur is sexually dimorphic, and is named after the coloring of the male. The females are a lighter brown color, generally medium brown, to chestnut or even orange-brown. Both have ear tufts; the males are black, the females are white.
&They live in groups of 2 to 15 members, including approximately equal numbers of males and females. In the group, females are dominant over males, although intragroup fighting is rare.
