Miracinonyx es llamado popularmente "guepardo americano", pero en realidad estaba mбs emparentado con el puma que con el guepardo moderno; sus adaptaciones a la velocidad son un caso mбs de evoluciуn convergente (Ўaunque de todos modos pumas y guepardos estбn muy emparentados!). Se supone que se alimentaba, entre otras cosas, de berrendos, lo cual podrнa ser la razуn por la cual йstos ungulados son tan veloces (bastante mбs de lo que necesitan ser para escapar de los predadores norteamericanos modernos).

Miracinonyx is popularly known as the American cheetah, but it was actually closer to pumas than to the modern cheetah; its adaptation to speed is another case of convergent evolution (although pumas and cheetahs are very closely related anyway!) It is believed to have fed on pronghorn, among other things, which may be the reason why pronghorn are so fast today (more than they need to be to escape most North American predators).
