Malayan Brown Snake

9'8.
Xenelaphis hexagonotus.

With individuals growing up to 2 metres in length, the Malayan Brown Snake is a fairly large colubrid snake that occurs in the Southern parts of Thailand.

Being adapted to both terrestrial and semi-aquatic life, this snake can be found in forests and swamps or mangrove areas where it primarily feeds on rodents, amphibians, fish and birds. Very often, it can be seen in a peculiar position that, among snakes, is commonly called "periscoping", where the snake is checking its environment with an erect pose.

Unlike the infamous Australian snakes from the Pseudonaja genus, which are also commonly called Brown Snakes, the Malayan Brown Snake is considered nonvenomous and harmless.
