Borogovia is a small troodontid from Asia. It is quite an obscure genus, few people have heard of it. I however, hold this genus very dear, it has a very very special place in my heart. You wanna know why?
then let me take you down a trip on memory lane:
many years ago, even before me joining DeviantArt, little Robinson was a huge dino nerd. And little me enjoyed nothin more than those early90s "Dinosaur!" magazines. You know, the ones that had that T rex figure you could assemble. These magazines offered so much there were so many dinosaur species Iґve never heard of and they often had fantastic illustrutations. There was once artist in particular thatfascinated me , an artist that to this day I dont know the name of, but he made those fantastic dinosaur paintings that looked so realistic. They were immediately recognizable, the dinosaurs were presented in dynamic poses, the detail was great and the proportions were spot on. Anyways, little me was fascinated by his/her? drawings but the one that stuck the most was Borogovia. It was at that point, that exact moment in 2005/2006(I dont know exactly which year but it must have been one of the two) that little me formed an idea in his mind that would grow into a lifelong project: Drawing every genus of dinosaur there is and at the end make a huge encyclopedia out of it. It was at this moment that I decided to become a professional paleo artist. There was no intention to put sth online, hell at that point I hardly had heard of the internet itself, it was just a little personal project. I had drawn dinosaurs before as early as in my kindergarden days but this was the point in my life when I decided to go all out with this idea. The daughter of my godmother was at the time and still is an incredibly talented drawer and it was her style that I first tried to copy in terms of how to draw shapes and lines. So I sat down, pulled out apiece of paper and started to draw my very first dinosaur of this lifelong project. And this dinosaur was Borogovia, using the same picture that inspired me to this idea as refernce I started drawing and in less than an hour the first picture was finished! I remember being so proud of myself. I was only around 12 yearsold and here I was with a goal in my mind and mytools readyto bring back dinosaurs to life on paper! I have so many fond memories of my first days becoming a palaeo artist. You need to understand that these drawings were nothing compared to the stuff I do nowadays, they were inaccurate and were almost exclusively copys of other artists drawn in my style that at first was also just an amateur copy of my godmothers daughters style and only over time transformed into the unique style I am using today. However these drawings sure hold a lot of sentiment to me. Unfortunately I couldnt find my very first dinosaur picture of this series anymore. I must have sorted it out in my earlier days, not knowing that one day it could become that important to me.
However I did try to find it in the cupboard where I store all my drawings and while I didnt find the Borogovia drawing, I did find some other drawings of the "first series" (I refer to the first series as the drawings that filled up my first map of drawings-around 50 or so) and was amazed I still had em.
I also found the "second series" map which includes some of my milestones of the first 2years ,including the dilophosaurus drawing in which I made my first attempts to include shadows in my drawings to give em more depth and a cryolophosaurus painting I named "king of the pole" which at the time was my masterpiece and that I totally have to redraw in the near future just for sentiments sake . Whatever the case is, I will definetely make a video about that subject once I launch my new youtube channel in the near future!
So yeah, thats the story of how it all started and my very first dinosaur drawing.
