New series of works and this is #1 of 4.

Did these last year in November for an artist grant given by VG-BildKunst / Germany. I wanted to combine the creatures of H.P. Lovecraft with the imagery of John Atkinson Grimshaw paintings from 1900. (

(In times of AI-engines it would have been a lot easier - and these are completely free from that. It is rather what I call "handpainted inceptionism".

I like to add to the AI-VS-handpainted discussion with these pieces, because it is essentially the same. I did just paint the lovecraftian elements. One could argue as well that this isnґt art.
(This required me to research the Lovecraftian universe and turn to friends who were more knowledgable than me so I came up with the Avatars that allowed me to put the creature alongside a representation of that creature in our world - the avatar - sometimes you have to search for it, and you have to know Lovecraft on order to understand the meaning

That is creativity and no machine in the world can take this creativity from an artist, it rather challenges you to focus on what you know and what you dont know in order to survive.
Most people forget that art is also about failing. This project was not about receiving the artist grant, because Id also have gotten 80% of the money if I had failed, but the process is important.
It puts your motivation into perspective.

(AI-driven art will not take this away, because there will always be things AI cant do and it is on the artists to find that and fill in the blanks.

Though I like the angle and concept, I started work on this pic a few months ago and have never been keen on how it was turning out. Over time, I've mentally-checked out, and I feel that another 10 hours of investment would only yield a marginal improvement. Instead of shelving it indefinitely, I went ahead and posted it so at least others can view it (and so I can move on to other projects).
