A back-lit shot of a trap-jaw ant carrying an almost mature larva. Taken at night in Singapore forest.
Quote from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odontoma… Commonly known as trap-jaw ants, species in Odontomachus have a pair of large, straight mandibles capable of opening 180 degrees. These jaws are locked in place by an internal mechanism, and can snap shut on prey or objects when sensory hairs on the inside of the mandibles are touched. The mandibles are powerful and fast, giving the ant its common name. The mandibles either kill or maim the prey, allowing the ant to bring it back to the nest. Odontomachus can simply lock and snap its jaws again if one bite is not enough, or to cut off bits of larger food. The mandibles also permit slow and fine movements for other tasks such as nest building and care of larvae.
Trap-jaw ants of this genus have the fastest moving predatory appendages within the animal kingdom.[2] One study of Odontomachus bauri recorded peak speeds of between 126230 kilometres per hour (78143 mph), with the jaws closing within just 130 microseconds on average. The peak force exerted was in the order of 300 times the body weight of the ant and acceleration of 1 000 000 m/sІ or 100 000 g. The ants were also observed to use their jaws as a catapult to eject intruders or fling themselves backwards to escape a threat.
Loved that subtle pose in this photo and thought it was ideal for my two little witches. Oh yeah, and more green/bluish/violet, fucking love that color combo right now
Tech Specs: Canon 70D (F16, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (around 4x) + a diffused MT-24EX. This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held.
Technique: Early morning shot while the critter was still trying to get it's metabolism going. I was holding on to the Lavender stem with my left index finger and thumb, and resting the lens on that same hand to keep everything steady.
Some time ago I got this idea that I would create a massive eye texture pack based on illustrations of vocaloids. And as Miku will probably be my all-time favorite vocaloid, it was not hard to decide where to start
I thought I'd use the title "Fifty Shades of..." because I figured 50 was a good number for a decent (well, pretty large) texture pack.. and because I thought it sounded fun
Almost all the images I used came from konachan.com, I do not take credit for any of the original illustrations. All of them are included in the pack (for comparison purposes), but cropped to reduce the size of the pack.
Please notice that NONE of the textures in this pack are recolors. ALL are individually drawn from scratch to try to mimic the style of the illustration in question (hence why this pack took such a long time to finish...). If you want an eye texture in another color, feel free to edit to your hearts content. And if you wish to distribute a model with any of these textures just don't forget to credit.
I should also mention that the textures does not fit a certain model base but you will have to UV-map them no matter what base you use. A tutorial on how to do that can be found here:

There is this series of challenges coming up on DeviantART and I'm honored to be part of one of these " title="Love" /> . I was invited by to draw the following:
SKETCH YOUR HAND:
Sketch the hand you do not draw with, using black and only one color. Explore depth and shading through point size.
As a side not I always wondered why the majority of people draws/write with their right hand. I searched through it on Google and guess what? There's not an exact answer yet! I feel so intrigued and sort of frustrated...
