I was asked why I don't post any art lately. I would love to tell you that I'm just to buisy to stay up to date here, but to be honest, I just don't feel like sharing anything right now. In the last months I tried to work on my traditional skills, started to learn some new programs and evaluated my workflows, but I completed nearly no paintings.
I have the feeling that I am getting better in what I do -slowly, but steady. But it also feels as if I don't have any interesting stories to tell. And I don't want to bother people with unfinished sketching paractices and half baked, uninspired paintings. Nevertheless, I will try to show a bit more of my process (starting today), because I came to realise, that I just need some more input to create art, and because I was reminded, that some of you would appreciate it (thanks Stephanie !).
This painting is titled no mans land. It started as a speedpainting for Daily Spitpaint in January (!) and I began painting it one month later. I liked the initial concept and composition, but the painting just wasn't going anywhere. I repainted the water, the trees, the Sky, the soil. Multiple times. It felt like I forgot how to paint even the simple stuff and on top of that, I killed most of my values on several occasions. My plan was to leave the water luminescent and to bring more color to the gray areas, but I was't able to get those parts together. Giving up wasn't an option anymore, because shit got personal here! I showed it to Lukas Esch and Sid Chaturvedi and they helped me to improve it drastically (thanks again guys
). But still, I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. I annoyed Ruschkala Bingbong every time I layed hands on it and she always found something to improve, but during summer, I couldn't handle it anymore and had to do a break. Until then, approx. 30-40 hours went into the painting (which is waaay more than I use to need). And most of the time was spent repainting single details, and not tackling the real issues it had. 2 weeks ago I gave it a new shot, merged everything, resized it, overpainted everything, and it is the best version so far. It's still not what I hoped for, but for now, I leave it as it is.
If you guys have any comments whatsoever, please write down your thoughts; I would really appreciate more input here. Also, whats your opinion on social media and DA, frequent posting and/ or not posting at all?
