These old rails are the remains of the northeastern end of 'The Gully Line' in Georgetown, a suburb of Newcastle. This was a private railway that serviced several local collieries including the Raspberry Gully Colliery near Charlestown. Just northeast of here is where the line joined the main northern line. The line opened in 1876 and closed in December 1961 when the Raspberry Gully Colliery closed.
