Riodades is located in the valley of the River T'avora on the right bank, 22 km from S. Jo~ao da Pesqueira, Portugal. Riodades is an essentially agricultural and fruit-growing parish with a special focus on the cultivation of wine, olive oil, potatoes and corn. Riodades has S. Miguel as its patron saint. however, the great pilgrimage is held to Our Lady d'Alegria. In the beginning it was celebrated on the 12th and 13th of September and now in the month of August, called the feast of emigrants. This panorama was photographed on Riodades 25th of April Avenue, near Market Source on a sunny day. Integrated in the Alto Douro Vinhateiro region, a World Heritage Site, Riodades awaits your visit.

The Ac'acio Sobral Square, also known as Market Square is located at the entrance of Riodades near the Staircase Our Mrs. d'Alegria and Pillory. As the name implies, the Riodades fair was held here every two weeks. At present, essentially musical and cultural events take place here.

The Staircase of Our Lady d'Alegria is located in Riodades, council of S~ao Jo~ao da Pesqueira, district of Viseu. This staircase with 365 steps and several levels gives access to the Chapel of Our Lady d'Alegria and the top of Monte da Virgem. This is a really pleasant place, from which you can contemplate a wonderful landscape. The Our Lady d'Alegria Staircase is a fantastic work, built by the honorable Mr. Ac'acio da Luz Sobral was started in 1964 and opened in 1966, it should also be noted that the entire village was involved in the construction of this emblematic work, and the Parish Priest of Riodades was Priest Mr. Jos'e da Silva, later Canon of Vila Nova de Foz C^oa.

On the highest summit of the parish of Riodades, at 630 meters of altitude, is located the Our Lady D'Alegria Chapel, exlibiris of this parish, built by a benefactor of Riodades, Mr. Acacio da Luz Sobral. The festivities in honor of Our Lady d'Alegria took place on the 12th and 13th of September, more recently the emigrant’s festivity takes place on the same days in August. One of the highest moments of these festivities is the farewell to Our Lady d'Alegria, after the open-air mass and on the blue and white litter, they goes through the crowd, who wave white handkerchiefs, it's a touching act. It should also be noted that at the top of the hill where the chapel is located, the view is breathtaking, with access by car and on foot via an elegant staircase. A very special place, with a wonderful landscape worth visiting!!
