Le "ch^ateau", b^atiment class'e, est en r'ealit'e l'ancien palais abbatial, t'emoin de l'ancienne abbaye fond'ee `a Waulsort au Xe si`ecle par les moines venus d'Irlande. Il a bien s^ur, comme tous les 'edifices religieux, connu des heures difficiles apr`es la R'evolution Francaise et a 'egalement jou'e un r^ole lors des deux conflits mondiaux du Xxe si`ecle.
