Praca da Rep'ublica, or simply "Arcada" as it is also known, dates back to the late Middle Ages. Before, in this place there was an arcade, built in 1715 by D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles, in the same place as another one, dating back to the time of D. Diogo de Sousa.
