Engineering and Construction In terms of structures, in addition to ensuring the overall stability of the building, the following fundamental concerns deserve mention: find a set of structural elements, integrated in Architecture, that would ensure the transmission of loads to the foundation. The geometric complexity of the building, particularly in the north, did not make this task easy, forcing the consideration of a complicated load transfer system, through the structural use of most of the walls; achieve a high level of detail that would allow defining the geometry of the building and its structural elements, accurately characterizing the openings and courettes intended for installations. As it is a building in exposed white concrete, many of the infrastructures are embedded in the concrete itself, forcing the rigor of detail to apply equally to these installations. Reinforced concrete designs have gained the importance of synthesis designs and as a result of successive iterations between Architects, Structural Engineers and Specialty Engineers; the establishment of a constructive phasing and a shoring system compatible with the deadlines of the work and the Contractor's preferences. the control of surface cracking, given its importance in the durability of a building in exposed white concrete Structure Calculation of efforts and dimensioning Constructive phasing and shoring White concrete

The project started in September 1999, following a contest of ideas won by the OMA / ARUP Consortium and which was already part of AFAssociados. The shoring and constructive phasing project was carried out in 2001, within the scope of an order made by the construction consortium to AFAssociados, promoted by the Owner of the Work. The Preliminary Study was to take place until December 1999. As it is an extremely complex project, in which the technical difficulties inherent to this type of equipment (acoustics, environmental treatment) were associated with an unusual geometry and a bold structure, it was necessary to mobilize a mixed multidisciplinary team, meeting weekly in Rotterdam to discuss and agree on the solutions to be developed until the next meeting. Structure, technical areas, duct lines and courettes were discussed and altered until their complete integration into the building. With regard to the Structures Project, a joint Team was set up between the Engineers of ARUP and AFAssociados who, working in London during the Preliminary Study phase, made the solutions discussed and agreed in the weekly meetings possible.

This is the center of the West caldera of Broken Top Mountain in Oregon, West of the city of Bend in the Three Sisters Wilderness area. The East caldera is very popular with the stunning presence of No Name Lake against the volcanic crater walls. This caldera with Crook crater and the incredible colorful crater walls is equally stunning and not a difficult hike. The open end of the crater faces south toward Mt. Bachelor. Note the chasm on the crater floor.
